Please Don't Comment

Please don't tell me I look good today -
I'll think you thought I didn't, yesterday, and cry.
Don't tell me that my hair looks lovely up, or down,
I'll think you thought it didn't suit me,
down, or up, and wonder why you had to be unkind.
Don't tell me I seem bright today
or I'll know that yesterday, you thought me rather dull,
and if you say, today, I'm looking well
I'll wonder if I'm not well, after all.
Do not notice if I'm looking better, slightly fatter,
or a little thinner,
I'll think you thought me gaunt, or gross, which I'll deplore.
And never say goodbye - I'll think one of us might die -
just leave without a word and close the door.

Loverly! When I've had my hair cut people have often said, "Oh, that looks better." It was very polite of them to have kept quiet so long when it was obviously terrible!

Hi Bee
Hi Bee
This is great fun to read, and no doubt was so for you to write. And very true. I am wearing my hair differently than I did a few months ago - and whenever I hear, "You've changed your hair. It suits you." or
"You look much younger with your hair like that," I immediately wonder how poor their impression of me must have been before. Taking compliments graciously is hard.
