Hi,
I'm writing this letter to a few people. I've been in Thailand almost 4 weeks now and things are okay. The weather is beautiful, if a little hot, and everywhere there are beautiful flowers, colorful butterflies, and also dragonflies. It's quite surprising how far the dollar goes here; a platter of seafood costs 40 baht unless you go to Wahin, a nearby city, and there it costs 100 baht.
I've found an apartment with maid service and a fitness center, complete with a sauna. Ironically, saunas are very popular here... with girls who want to lose weight.
My teaching job is going all right; it actually ends up being a busy schedule, until another American teacher gets back from vacation. There are many kind and helpful people here. There are also a lot of problems. The streets are over-run by stray dogs who they leave alone... out of respect for Lord Buddha. Additionally, consumerism here makes America look good.
My great ambition is to ride on an elephant... but no hurry.
friendly regards,
Sean L Nelson
