HOMELAND
Oh I would a kingdom give
Back home, in ERIN'S ISLE to live
But a kingdom, I have not
So in this foreign land I'll rot.
My worldly goods I'd give to see
My homeland far across the sea
To walk again each Dublin street
The sounds, the smells ,old friends to meet.
To see again the G.P.O.
Where Pearce began, the yolk to throw
Away, the rule of English men
And Ireland rule herself again.
To walk down by the liffy side
Where as a child I'd play and hide
With special friends and talk the hours away
Of Irish hero's past, leaving Ireland, perhaps one day.
To walk again the high mountain track
Down hushed green glens then looking back
To Glendalough, I've spent many a happy hour
Amid it's ruins, lakes and Celtic tower.
Then to the west's rugged Atlantic shore
Watching magic sunsets, as often seen before
Wandering under moon and stars, till the break of day
To see the sun rise up again, over Galway bay.
To listen to musicians play
Traditional Irish tunes, of another day
The piper, whose laments, reach deep into my soul
I still can hear the fiddle play, as Donegal I stroll.
But as I say, these sights I'll never see again
For times are hard, I'm not as young as when
The money flowed, and Ireland but an hour away
I could fly home, but now in England I must stay.
