old sootie and sweep

Plant the old when you’re wild
Then at least you’ve been a child
Patriarchs that chew the cud
Would never think of being so crude
Sins living are only hell
When you’re ever no’well
That lying son of a bitch
Is too quick for auld bones
Let us worship what we know
Reverently lays aside some dough
Lay aside Zion’s guide
Say it with a solemn air
Chant gawd it’s no-half fair
Priests like turning another page
And those of a certain age
Heaven has smote me with ire
Behold a body’s numbness and fire
Life remembered never tires
You used to be a hot head
That snake skin shed
You spy a bitter tear
Your mouth a moonly sphere
Spoonfed bread and ruskaline
And many an ‘oh, dear’
Pompous strains of a life well lead
Leave that stuff to the already dead
Life from grandeur springs
Not from the rage of stinking things
Studied in the art of hell
The parent-pair hover like I’m no’ there
Mutter about undulated and infarct heart
Oh this is something vile
Dead tissue stuffed with tyrannical pride
An inspiration to those by your side
Let life fall like copper and gold leaves
Working its magic on the breeze
Let this bed not be my part
Send me sootie and set me apart
From all this good cheer
And all you hold so queer
