The Aventures Of Miniator Chapter 9) New Time
Captain Bird looked at the face of Swing, and took his hand in his, and said, 'Thank you, thank you my boy! But please what is all this? How is it possible?'
'What you ask, Captain, how? I understand little of it myself... but I told our tale to someone..., a friend and diplomat from another world... yes, Captain, another world... the proof of that you see... and that person, who is like no other... made all this happen. He is your true rescuer. But please, Captain, I cannot answer your questions. For he has asked me to promise that he will remain anonymous, but he sends his very best regards to you.'
'And there,' he pointed to the schooner in the harbour. 'is another wonder, that will deliver us and your treasure to James Town, so with your pardon from the King you can start a new life.'
'But, my son,' said the Captain, 'you mean we will start a new life there…. For anything I have is yours...'
'Father, I had planned to join you, and in the future I may come to you, but there is something calling me, a calling so powerful I cannot deny, nor ignore it. I have asked mine and your rescuer to take me on as a part of his crew, that I may, though I don't know how, be of help to him on his great adventure in this world.' The Captain looked sad, but then said ’I can see you are determined and I too can not begrudge our rescuer the help I’m sure you can give him. So please give him my best regards and express my deepest gratitude for all he has done.’
At that they took the casket, and after traversing the gang plank they entered into the ship. Which once inside the captain recognized nothing, nothing he could relate to in any ship he had ever been on or heard of.... Speechless, he followed Swing down the corridor of the 'spaceship' to a door to a room, which to the captain's further amazement opened when Swing stood before it. There he made the captain comfortable, before leaving him.
To the Captain's, first disbelief, and then astonishment, the trip took less than half an hour... The Dino set down just out of sight of a small settlement, then shape-shifted into a little cottage. Swing, back in his old clothes, left the spaceship and strolled into the settlement, there he found a man who had a horse and cart. And after much bartering he bought both, for well over the odds. Then he took the rig back to where the Captain was waiting, with his treasure. They covered the casket on the cart with some near-by tree branches.
The Captain and Swing embraced, and with tears in their eyes, said farewell. Swing watched the Captain drive off for James Town and to his new life.
The Dino, now in the shape of the house, was back on Swing's old island. Miniator and Swing were in the communication room. Miniator was back to his small size.
The computer welcomed Swing as a new member of the crew. Miniator congratulated Swing on how he had used the hand held Atom Mixer, it had been perfect for that situation, and he thought it would be appropriate for him to keep it... Miniator explained how it could be adjusted to different materials, not just for wood and metal. They discussed what devices Swing might need for future missions. And the silver Shield Suit he had worn would also be useful in different situations; it is light and fireproof, and its shield could stop all small projectiles. They had fitted-out the helmet with a communication device, so Swing could hear and report direct to the ship and to Miniator.
Miniator thought they should take a couple of days to adapt other devices and train Swing in all the possibilities of the equipment of the spaceship.
They then began discussing – with the image of Professor Zog on the computer screen – where and when they would travel next. Miniator thought it was the right time to visit what he called 'his time'.
The computer began explaining and showing the film and photographs that had been taken of Earth by the Toolian scientists during the Earth's Cretaceous Period, sixty six million years ago. At which time the Toolians had taken Miniator's egg.
Swing was totally astounded again by all this information and the images he was seeing through, what he still called, the window. He felt he was back in a dream. Many of the pictures were of awesome looking creatures... They didn't seem to be like Miniator, they looked and behaved in a ferocious way.
Miniator explained, that when he was a baby, professor Zok had made several in-plants in his brain... which had added new areas... areas for memory, and learning, but these implants had also allowed his brain to communicate…. For example, his body didn't have the physical capacity to talk, vocals chords, etc. as yours have. But those implants could pick up his own brain waves, and through the Larynx device change them into his mechanical voice...
'So you are cleverer than these creatures,' asked Swing.
'I hope so!' joked Miniator.
For the next days Swing was taken through the procedures and training. He felt excited, but also apprehensive. But the idea of travelling through time he just could not understand, no matter how many time Miniator or the man in the window explained it. He just could not believe it would work... it went around and around in his head, and yet he couldn't hold the explanation together. Then there were all those pictures of the giant dragons that made his skin crawl…. He sometimes wondered if he had made the right decision, and thought about a calmer life with his old Captain, but the more time he spent with Miniator the more he liked and trusted him.
Then came the day for their departure. Miniator and Swing sat in the chairs in the room where, in a few moments, would become the cockpit of the Dino.
'Computer, shape-shift!'
'Yes, Captain!'
'Hold tight, Swing!'
'Hi hi, Captain!'
The room began to shudder and twist into the original. They could now see outside.
'Spaceship, Captain!' came back the computer.
'Prepare for lift off!' Miniator pulled back a joy stick, and the Dino lifted slowly, elegantly, and noiselessly from the ground. It hovered around a hundred metres over the ground.
'Computer, Time-Shift setting?'
'Sixty six million Earth years -- back, Captain!' Swing looked nervous. Miniator give him a look of assurance.
'Shift, Computer!'
The Spaceship again began to shudder, but this time for much longer... A dial with the number of years began to roll back. The sky and all they could see outside disappeared, they could see only shifting racing colours, one to the other. Swing took a deep breath, and closed his one good eye.
