Pavane for bleakness

Winter
yearly tormentor
brings her pale blue palette
acts a cruel sister in the palatial court
The hearths rage something fierce
she still draws fearful stares
heat won’t thaw this cold
so rhythms slow
Takes my hand
tells of an absence of light
levies higher than the year before
and my depleting of luck during harvest
The lords of spring, summer, and autumn
watch on in tears at her grace
as she plays her part
the jester then hums a sad little tune
