Don’t count your chickens
The kids are hungry, the heat’s not on.
Food shops empty, trains don’t run
Who’d have thought we’d have so much fun
Now we've taken back our country.
Don’t count your chickens a wise man said,
you’re a short time living and a long time dead.
There’s egg on your face if they don’t come home
And you’re standing in the cold alone.
Hold your passport above your head
Is it blue or is it red?
Red ones are looking better fed.
Now we’ve taken back our country.
Don’t count your chickens a wise man said,
you’re a short time living and a long time dead.
There’s egg on your face if they don’t come home
And you’re standing in the cold alone.
They told us, entry to the promised land
needs a blue passport clutched in your right hand...
The promised land don’t look so grand
now we’ve taken back our country.
The rich build walls while the poor folk riot.
NHS run down so the Yanks could buy it.
If you raise a ruckus you’re told to be quiet
Is this really what you voted for?
They told us, entry to the promised land
needs a blue passport clutched in your right hand.
The promised land don’t look so grand
now we’ve taken back our country.
Don’t count your chickens a wise man said,
you’re a short time living and a long time dead.
There’s egg on your face if they don’t come home
And you’re standing in the cold alone.
now we’ve taken back our country
now we’ve taken back our country
now we’ve taken back our country

I wonder
what the playground chants are now... we used to parrot chants about Ho Chi Minh, with no clue where Vietnam was. This has that kind of hypnotic rhythm. Cleverly done.
