I promise

"I promise?"
If you made a promise to God what would it be?
Perhaps to be all you can be
To be the best at getting blessed
To pray every day.
To not laugh at rude jokes
Or pull faces at old folks
To not skip class or smash that antique vase.
Perhaps our promise to God would proclaim,
We would not take the Lords name in vain.
We would try to read the bible each day,
And not throw water bombs at Aunt May.
Perhaps we would declare for all to see
That no longer we would eat mushy peas,
Or drink so much beer that it came out of your ear.
And we would wash our hands after going to the loo
I could keep on going for there is so much we could do.
In my simple understanding, simple it may sound
All the lord wants is for us to sit still, listen and wait for him to
come around.
I may see it simple, I may see it clear but from what the bible tells
me Jesus wants us to love him all year.
Not just when it suits, when we are in trouble or feeling down,
Jesus doesn't just want silence and then to hear we need him
around.
Jesus wants to hear each day each hour that our love for him is not
just a quick rain shower.
He doesn't want gifts he doesn't want things, he doesn't want 5 Gold
rings or 6 turtle doves a fleet of cars or a chain of non alcoholic
bars, or fifty thousand ponds to fix the bust wall or by a new choir
stall.
I believe its simple you see
I believe he wants you and me
He wants our love and he wants our song
Don't get me wrong, its good to toil its good to sweat
But don't do it from a place of regret,
Don't take on a task if yea haven't checked first, am I doing it
because I have put God first.
Perhaps you should stone me if I am wrong,
Jesus just wanted your love all along.
He can't love you anymore each day, because his love for you is total,
complete more love than you will ever need or meet
So when you promise just promise to love as much as you can.
More than your biggest fan or your mum and dad
Husband or wife or your dog called spike
You see once you have grasped Gods love, once you get it, and I haven't
yet.
Then we don't do our duties because we have to, we don't do them in a
Huff or feel like we have had enough.
We do it for love there us no greater thing, no higher notion or
anything more wonderful
Than doing the impossible, because you simply bursting it show that you
love Jesus so.
As I close my talk this poetic walk
Maybe you heard me maybe you didn't
But take a few moments to reflect your reality,
Reflect in what is going to be will you check in with JC or just call
him in an emergency.
Will you show you love him by your hard graft, or will you ask him
first what is the task?
Will you show him your love by sweating blood or will you be
still
and wait to run up the hill.
You may hear God speak to you regardless of age or gender whether you
are the worst offender because what matters is we sit still and wait
for God to finish this poem and fill our hearts this day with the
wonder of what Jesus has to say.
