3am This Morning

The road surface outside my window
is satin varnished from the aftermath
of a billion tiny water bombs dropped
by a passing thunderstorm. Its fading
spoor: a light show and barely audible
bass notes, will soon melt into black sky.
The rotating publicity hoarding, stands
on the corner. A sentinel, showing off
alternating boasts by, ING, Bioform
and Carrafour. Its colours, reflecting
off the drenched pathway, penetrate
the monochrome of sodium orange
to compete with the traffic lights for
the attention of a slumbering audience.
