Put Out Fewer Flags

Not waving but failing
to rally even the proudest patriot,
Flags! Oriflammes!                                                                                                                                    Tricolores! Tricolours!
We’ve flags for every man jack of you!
Saltires, Ensigns, Old Glory!
These are things to stir the blood
- especially that spilled in their honour.

All hail The Greatest Flag! 
Never less apt than now,
when wrapped around 
the latest scoundrel 
taking refuge in
the hallowed tablecloth:
Telling the faithful 
the red is for blood
the white is for good
and the blue is true.

The Union Flag: 
a union of parts,
of different races,
of different cultures,
not this,
not this.
