Sanity

In the interests of good taste
Historically
It has been a preference of mine
To play the Devil's Advocate
Or to advocate the Devil
Or whatever
In order to try to create some order
In the disorder of the thoughts
That run around my mind
Fighting
Arguing
And screaming at each other.
But now
Good taste is of less interest to me
So I listen carefully
And try to make out which,
If any,
Of the little thoughts
That run around my mind
Fighting
And arguing
And screaming at each other,
Has the loudest voice.
And I am relieved that
When all is said
And all is done
The loudest voice,
The only little thought
Still running
And screaming in my mind,
Is the voice of reason.
But then I would say that,
Wouldn't I?
