The Waiting land
I have gone to a far distant country
And you cannot follow me
It is not where I thought I was going
But it’s here that I want to be
I thought at the start of my journey
I’d be travelling here all alone
But found I was with kindred spirits
And together we travelled home
I am here in the joy of the morning
And the far distant mountains are pearled
With the light of a new beginning
As I rest on the roof of the world
By my end I have made a beginning
I have scattered the years in flight
For time has ceased to have meaning
In this place of perpetual light
You will see me once more in spirit
And then you will understand
How my soul was transformed into glory
As I enter this waiting land.

Voxians
This species live on the planet Vox, in the Mythus nebula. They are tall super beings that are able to use their powers for good. Power of the Demon – Only two Voxians appear to be gifted with this the power of the Demon allows the Voxian to go full strength and obliterate anything around it. This power comes with spiked hands and face and dark black skin.
Power of flight – all Voxians either have this or the ability to skim, the males tend to fly as the females can through a method of meditation lift themselves and float.

Preface
The planet Earth 1942 AD
Phoenix stood 6 feet 4 inches tall with a slender build and dark blue eyes, his pupils were so large they looked almost black in the moonlight; they were as dark as his soul.
He stood in his smartly pressed uniform. He had joined the British Special Services at the beginning of the Second World War; he had become a spy for them and had been planted as a SS officer in Germany in 1941.
Phoenix knew of ‘The Book of Demons’ legend, he had also heard of Kathos the Angel searching for the Demon, so he was amazed when walking through the back streets of Berlin when he caught sight of the evil book in a small shop on his way back through an unfamiliar street, taking a short cut to his car.
The shopkeeper, who had killed to own it, had found it comical to display the book in the window, knowing full well that people who pass by would never understand or know its content.
“It’s not possible!” Phoenix whispered he could hardly catch his breath.
His heart raced with excitement, he had become a member of the brotherhood and taken the satanic pact many years before. He had split his palm open and signed his name on the Devil’s pact in his own blood; he had sworn to be a son of darkness. For all his life Phoenix would bear the scar and never be allowed to forget his promise to Satan.
Phoenix walked through the door of the shop his massive frame meant that he had to stoop to get in through the door.
“Good Evening sir, how can I help you today?” The shopkeeper stood nervously by his counter and then Phoenix approached him.
“I am interested in the book.”
Phoenix turned looking over at the glass display cabinet, the book sat on a high plinth inside, it had a strange cream leather bound cover with metal casing around the edges and a fancy metal lock that flipped over the cover that matched, the cover was decorated all over with gold engraving in a strange language it said ‘The Book of Demons’ underneath that it read in bigger letter casing ‘The Book of Belial’ the detail was quite exquisite.
The shopkeeper walked slowly around to his chair behind the desk he suddenly dropped and sat down, he began taking a closer look at the huge man standing in his shop and gasped.
Fear struck his face as Phoenix’s appearance began to change.
His face now had become tinted with a metallic black colour; he had bulges across the top of his cheek bones, also across the line of his eyebrows and at the top of his nose. Then he noticed a flash of white, a small glimmer that turned his attention to the customer’s teeth. Horror struck him as two sets of long white fangs protruded from his snarling mouth, the first set about 4 inches long next to Phoenix’s front teeth, then a second set right next to them only these were looking at least double the size of the first.
Before the shopkeeper had time to give it another thought Phoenix pulled a sword from the side of his overcoat, it gleamed as the lamp light from outside caught it, sharp and willing. With hardly a sound to be heard except a soft swish as it directed its blow hitting the shopkeeper in the middle of his head going straight through like a knife slicing butter.
A small line of red appeared on the man’s head and worked its way quickly through the middle of his face; one side slid showing a perfect dissection as his body split into two halves where he was sitting, his intestines poured from his stomach landing in a pile on the floor.
There was the sound of glass breaking as Phoenix picked the book up from its casing, wrapped it in a blanket and then without even looking back, he smiled walking out into the night air.
He wiped the blood from his sword replacing it back into its cover in his overcoat.
Looking around, the night was silent; no one had noticed the commotion in the shop. Phoenix walked through the alley to his car, he carefully placed the covered book in the boot, his devilish smile said it all, he had ‘The Book of Demons’ it was his. He shook his head closing the boot then got into his car and drove away.
Chapter 1
Have you ever stopped to look at the world around you?
Earths beautiful blue skies with white cloud formations billowing above, the birds flying, trying to reach new destinations due to the changing seasons and climate.
Or perhaps think of the night-time calm, diamond studded as star constellations display themselves majestically on black canvas, we should as Humans count ourselves very lucky.
We, as the dominant species of Earth may dream of our existence being from another land.
Are we on foreign soil?
We may feel that we are not fitting into the normal life here on Earth, paying attention to becoming good mothers, fathers or bosses to our workforces. We have gone to new places swearing when we get there that we have been there before... our ‘déjà vous’. Yet we never for one minute believe that the reason this planet is so foreign to us could be because we are not from Earth at all...
The year 2510, Earth
It was January and the winter seasons had hit hard with snow falling constantly in Great Britain, the ground had snow up to ten inches deep in places, it was still falling thick and fast.
Fantacia grabbed her son Orion, clinging to his arm as her feet lost grip in the snow, she looked at him as they walked, he was no longer her little child as he towered above her, his giant frame stood 6 feet 10 inches tall as he powerfully pulled her along towards the shuttle craft, his long dark hair blew in the bitterly cold wind.
Fantacia stood 6 feet tall with blue jeans, a blue t-shirt with a rainbow on it, short dark brown hair, with bright blue eyes which then turned paler until they became a silver colour closer to the pupils; they looked extremely large for Humans.
Fantacia was trying to keep hold of the dog’s lead, as Shadow was barking, pulling forward to try and keep his family away from the fencing to the air force base. The black German Shepherd dog was now the only remaining family pet on Earth, all the other little animals had been relocated already along with Fantacia’s daughter Sky and her grand-daughter Emmina.
Fantacia and Orion were not that far behind them as Sky had left only months before, with the advances of technology a shuttle could be in Titan (one of Saturn’s 61 moons) within months now.
There were no communication systems on Saturn’s moon, all ships that landed on their new world had not yet advanced that far, this made the city built by academics stranded without communication with Earth as it was seen as unimportant.
The man-made parts of Titan were huge and metallic, consisting of domes built by small robots. Space shuttles were landing, being docked at ports, then soldered together making gigantic living quarters for the new arrivals keeping the methane atmosphere out, this was sealing the fate of all those who had arrived inside it.
“Shadow HEEEEEEL!” Fantacia said giving a pull on the lead “Come on mate, it’s not like a plane you know, they won’t cage you up or anything.”
Shadow pulled again, Fantacia almost lost balance as she slipped on the ice; Orion dropped the bags, catching her before she hit the floor.
“For God’ sake Mother, can’t you get a grip?”
Orion turned facing her, seeing that she was struggling with the dog, his sudden burst of anger disappearing in an instant.
“You never could walk him.” He smiled at her picking their luggage back up and steadily walking on.
“Shadow PLEASE!” This time Fantacia yanked hard at his lead, the dog turned and sat at her feet.
“Thank you!” she began to mumble under her breath “Stupid bloody animal.”
“You really amuse me at times, ha-ha!” said Orion.
He looked at his mother noticing how small she seemed, although in comparison to him nearly everyone appeared small, this was different her vulnerability stood out as she gazed back, she was leaving her home, the planet she had loved so much, to go where?
Her facial expressions were tired and sad, more than Orion had ever seen her before.
“Do you know what? I do believe you just thanked the dog.” Orion said.
“Oh…shut it wise ass, the animal did as he was told didn’t he?” Fantacia said.
The two laughed at one another as they continued walking.
They began to get closer to the shuttle, a crowd had gathered outside the barrack gates, they began arguing and shouting broke out amongst them.
Through the noise Fantacia heard a woman screaming towards them “STOP PLEASE!” she cried.
One of the soldiers began walking towards the gates cocking his rifle, as Fantacia and Orion turned to look at what had happened, the woman pushed herself forward from the crowd getting herself near to the closed gates.
A gasp let out as they witnessed her throwing her child, a small babe in arms wrapped in a powder pink blanket up in the direction of the top of the gates, aiming over the electric fencing, a spark flew as the child hit the top of the fence, people stood powerless as the child’s little tiny body flew out of its blanket convulsing, hitting the tarmac still on the same side as it’s mother. The mother let out a scream of terror as she realised what she had done, she ran to her child taking its burned body from the ground, holding it to her, sobbing, rocking it backwards and forwards, picking up and wrapping it back in the blanket as others watched in horror.
Fantacia could look no longer, Orion dropped the luggage running back towards the fence when a soldier on duty pointed his gun at him telling him to go back, he could see for himself that nothing could be done for the child and he didn’t want to antagonise the soldier anymore, so unwilling, he did as he was told.
“Bastard” he said angrily under his breath, he quickly composed himself, picking up the luggage heading back to his mother who was now crying.
“I don’t understand why she did that?” Fantacia sobbed.
“She was desperate, like all of those who are being left here, the Earth is condemned. The Nostradamus prophecies were right just five hundred years later than he predicted, the planet will be destroyed by fire as the ozone layer which protected the Earth from the Sun diminishes. What would you do if you were abandoned here knowing that all would end soon? She did as any parent would; she tried to save her child.” Orion said as he tried to comfort his mother.
The baggage truck arrived, pulling up next to them as they drew closer to the ship; Orion gladly placed the bags on it.
“The trunks full of my books and equipment, have they been put on the shuttle already?” he asked.
“Yes sir.” The baggage truck driver smiled “All was placed on the space craft early this morning, when you are on the shuttle please check that all luggage is present, we can’t have you leaving stuff behind, this is the last leaving Earth.”
Orion looked down, knowing this meant that even the baggage handler had no way off the planet, the academics had chosen but a few, all with achievement.
Orion’s scientific skills had saved his life; his mother had been saved due to her abilities as an academic, but also because she was a psychic. She was classed as a rarity; the academics believed that if Earth survived she would be the one who could tell them, even from a distance as far away as Titan.
Orion took hold of Shadow’s lead.
“Heel boy!” his command was met by the dog straight away, “Good boy” he said as they boarded the shuttle without anymore interruption.
Orion had picked up speed in order to keep the dog in line, he had always been faster than most, as Humans go he had always been taller and seemed bigger than the average male.
He never did get to go to America, he wanted to buy decent fitting clothes and shoes because there he would have been one of many, but not in Britain, he was a giant amongst little people. Clothes for a nearly 7 foot man were almost impossible to find.
“I really hope there are no other dogs on here, or even worse cats.’ Fantacia said “I did try and request this but understandably if other animals are here we can’t really complain now can we?” Fantacia looked around “You know what a disobedient sod Shadow can be, so keep on the lookout and don’t let him off, he’ll go on a barking spree!”
As Fantacia looked around the huge ship, she could see nothing other than her own species sitting on seats, picking up books and magazines preparing themselves for the journey.
Orion looked at his mother’s red blotchy face “Wonder how Sky and Emmina are? They will be well settled in by now.” He said to her.
He knew that if he changed the subject to something positive she would soon feel her normal self again, she had missed Sky and her funny moods, also the way she would chat constantly about animals. He remembered suddenly how much that got on his nerves, but being honest to himself he had also missed his sister, after all they had been apart for a long time, but mostly he had missed Emmina his niece, she was one of the most precious things in his life and he spoiled her a lot. In fact he had packages in one of the trunks of toys and clothes with the latest hair accessories, all that an 8 year old would need and more.
Fantacia looked at her new home for the next three months, she surveyed all around her. This was not like an aeroplane, with rows of seats each side of a gang way, with busy air hostesses asking if you wanted your flight meal now or a drink which will cost a gazillion pounds, also giving you instructions about what to do in the case of an emergency.
This was like a flying hanger, with seats in some sections and luggage in others, with twelve porter loos to the left, which considering there were about 250 people on board didn’t seem a lot really, looking across was a stranger sight, there were four rooms with baths and sinks with a rota hanging on the wall outside for those wishing to use them.
“Mmh, this is nice!” Fantacia nodded towards Orion, who just shrugged.
They found some seats and sat themselves down to be as comfortable as possible on what could only be described as school chairs that had been anchored down with bolts.
Shadow placed his head on Orion’s lap, looking up at him making a short whining noise.
“You know boy, sometimes when you look at me I swear I can almost understand what you are trying to tell me. Unfortunately if you need walkies, take a look around, it’s a case of where and how, they must have something here, you can’t be expected to hold it or not eat for the whole journey, shall we go and find out?”
Orion began looking for anyone who was not a paying passenger that could shed some light on the subject of dogs, dog poo and the disposal of it, Shadow trailed behind him looking slightly miserable and was still whining.
As the two walked along, they came across an arrowed sign with the words ‘Designated Area Point’ which took them to grass land about 20 X 20 foot, Orion looked seeing a fouling sign next to it, a bit like the ones for no fouling on Earth but without the big red circle with the cross in the middle.
“Oh that’s so funny” Orion chuckled “I need to have one of those, I must show Father, I doubt he would have noticed this on his journey.”
Shadow whined and proceeded to try to use the facilities; Orion looked around then took a photograph of the sign with his cell phone, when Shadow had finished the two walked back to their seat area.
“Have you noticed how the frame work has been put in place for the buildings in here so that it can be attached to the domes on Titan?” Fantacia asked as Orion took his seat again with Shadow sat at their feet.
Orion looked at the ship; it had markings with drill spots so that foundations could be put down quickly and easily.
“So what supplies have we brought with us?” Fantacia asked.
“Just some chemical compounds and machinery. I have been experimenting with replication; with this new machine food can be produced easily”.
“What do you mean produced, how?” Fantacia asked.
“By asking for a certain food or drink the machine will be able to make what can only be described as a copy, it will look and taste like the meal asked for, this seems a bit space-aged I know, but it would be helpful while crops and fruits grow on Titan. I believe the glitches to be small and think given a month I should be able to have it up and running.” Orion said.
Fantacia was very proud of her son, she knew that he would miss his life on Earth, he was in the middle of his biology degree when Drakos had discussed their need to relocate, “ a job’s a job”, he had said to them, “Orion can get a place at the University on Titan” he added.
“Don’t you wish we could be sleep induced for this journey?” Orion asked his mother.
“It will pass; I am just so bored, I will probably sleep through most of it anyway.” she said.
“These seats are not very comfortable, but at least we have air conditioning.” Orion said.
“Mmh”
“You’re already falling to sleep aren’t you?”
“Mmh”
Orion shrugged at her then looked down at his dog, he had also began falling to sleep; the journey was now underway, the smooth take off had already been and gone before Orion had taken his dog for the walk.
“Oh well if you can’t beat ‘em so they say.”
Orion curled up under a blanket he had found under his seat and fell to sleep.
The three months passed without any incidents and the journey to Titan ended with nothing to remember apart from the boredom...
Chapter 2
Fantacia woke up the next morning in a strange bed, she looked across at the empty side of the bed, the crisp white sheets had become wrinkled where she had tossed and turned in her unfamiliar surroundings, walls painted lilac with the matching bedside table lamp and lampshade, the room was a lot smaller than her room on Earth. She picked up her watch from the side table.
“Oh shit! Shit!” she said to herself angrily, as she quickly dressed and ran down the stairs.
“It’s 9.30!” she said to Orion who had been sat in the kitchen chewing a piece of toast.
“Yeh and?” he replied.
“Oh just hurry up and let’s get to the car.” she said.
Fantacia picked up the car keys and headed towards the door, Orion chewed down his last piece of toast quickly as he grabbed his shoes and followed struggling as he tried to put them on.
“For God’ sake, slow down.” He said tripping over himself as he followed her out the front door, one shoe still in his hand.
The metal ‘sky’ was lit up by spot lights so that the day and night affects from Earth could still help people adjust keeping their sleep patterns.
The car was a 4X4, a green land rover, there are no sports cars here, all the vehicles were heavy duty due to the rough terrain.
As Fantacia drove off the two of them looked around at their new surroundings, they surveyed everything as they quickly took in the view.
Titan appeared very strange, pods were everywhere, all adjoining one another making a gigantic unfamiliar metal town. Everything had been built under these man-made tunnels and domes; the whole structure was huge with no room to spare, with houses and shops under construction all squeezed on top of one another.
The robotic equipment on Titan was either programmed to construct the buildings automatically on the land; some were building structures with men on board the robotic cranes, driving electricity cables into the ground adding fixture and fittings making the places habitable for the Humans who would live in them.
As they looked out of the car windows at the grass and trees, the animals they passed appeared to have a strange anaemic look about them. The sheep had brown faces instead of black; the cow’s no longer black and white, but they were white coloured with strange brown patches here and there. There were still birds singing in the trees, but not the sparrows or robins they were used to in the UK, instead there were exotic birds that looked like they came from all parts of Earth living together because the temperatures seemed to suit them all, also the colours of the birds had faded, paler than Orion remembered from his books and trips to the zoo.
The cities of metal all re-enforced with some kind of new material that neither Orion nor Fantacia had come across before; thick panes of glass for windows, Orion looked outside them, seeing a beautiful orange/red alien sky, colours caused by the methane in the atmosphere. This definitely was not Earth, the windows of thick glass made vision through them difficult; everything was blurred out of focus.
Temperatures on this moon plummeted outside in the new alien atmosphere, so the systems inside the domes had to be just so with no room for break downs, the Human inhabitants would be dead within minutes if the heating system broke down here, so electricians had an around the clock job monitoring equipment making sure everything worked efficiently.
The biggest resource for power here was the methane which had been filtered and used to power everything, Titan could naturally produce this so there was no fear of it running out, Humans finally understanding their mistakes on Earth, making sure this time that they did not over use natural resources.
Orion mumbled to himself looking around as they drove along “Mmh...Same applies here as on Earth...Energy equals mass plus speed of light squared...”
Fantacia smiled looking at him “Always the scientist aren’t you? What equation is that?” she said steadily increasing acceleration so that the vehicle would pick up more speed.
Orion just looked at her smiled saying nothing; “Einstein’s!” he finally said still watching the speed dial on the car. “So, you gonna put your foot down or what?”
Late by half an hour, Fantacia decided she better speed up a bit more; her boss was waiting for her, her cell phone rang out…
Orion flicked the phone open and put it to his ear.
“Hello, yes, yes Father we are on our way… Mmh about 5 minutes I think! Look, what do you want we have never been here before…Okay, yes okay!” Orion’s irritation was obvious; he snapped the phone shut shaking his head “For God’ sake, why doesn’t he ever stop moaning?”
Fantacia’s job here was searching for artefacts of a highly valuable nature, works of art, books and documents that sort of thing. She had been requested for this job by her partner Drakos earlier, but decided to make the most of her home planet until she had no choice but to leave, that time had come, with the shuttle being the last she reluctantly had to force herself to abandon what she had been so familiar with...Earth.
When they drove up to the large building that looked like a multi-story block of flats, they both sighed at the sight of Drakos who was pacing outside; he stopped at the sight of the car pulling into the office grounds.
“You’re Late!” he said abruptly to Fantacia as she opened the car door.
“Oh give me a break!” She said.
“Come on let’s introduce you to the other members of your new team.” Drakos ushered the two of them to the building, then through the electronic doors.
Drakos was the team leader, a historian from Earth that had met Fantacia on one of her expeditions in Egypt.
He stood 5 feet 10 inches with black hair, always in a ponytail behind his back, he had silver eyes with a dark complexion, a beard and moustache always well trimmed, he always dressed in black shirt and jeans which had a mysterious looking belt buckle with a design of three moons with mountains underneath. Fantacia had never seen this belt design on Earth before, but thought that he more than likely found it on one of his relic hunts in ancient Greece or perhaps one of the first belts ever made.
Drakos was a bit of a character, very reliable, he was always on time if not early for things, he was also a bit of a moaner, but hey this was something that both Orion and Fantacia were used to after many years, after all he was Orion’s father and Fantacia’s partner.
“What no kiss?” Drakos asked her sarcastically.
Fantacia just huffed and went past him mumbling under her breath.
Drakos needed to put together a team; all of whom had a job to do; they needed to find a book. According to his information Earth was going to be destroyed because of Human ignorance, they had used all resources to the full; with the help of‘The Book of Demons’ doomsday would soon be upon the planet.
Drakos, Orion and Fantacia stopped outside a large office door. Orion surveyed the things around him, all these new people and surroundings started to panic him a little; he definitely did not like it. There were lines of smoky glass panelled windows, all dividing the office space in the building, with rows of people sitting at their desks, he watched on as people were typing and chatting on cell phones, Orion could hear part of the conversations as he passed them by.
Then Drakos headed down to the last corridor to the largest room on the ground floor, he opened the door and they stepped inside, it appeared more lavish than the other offices, with a plush dark brown carpet and gold wallpaper.
“Oh. This looks posh!” Orion laughed “Crap taste in décor.”
As they entered, Fantacia caught sight of three people all sat in the red velour chairs at a large mahogany table at the opposite end of the room, they had all been chatting away to one another, that was until they noticed the new people walk into the room, they all fell silent as Drakos and his family walked towards them.
Drakos waited for Fantacia and Orion to sit down with the others and then began to speak.
“Hello, you are all acquainted with who I am, Drakos the team manager...”
Drakos began to waffle on as the others sat looking bored, what everyone wanted to know was why they had been summoned here to Titan.
Then suddenly Drakos got to the point “It would appear information that had been found by Dr Richard Johnson PHD, a researcher of the black arts discovered that ‘The Book of Demons’ would cause the destruction of any planet, incantations from this book can destroy worlds, obliterating everything that lived on them. He had been looking into ‘The Book of Belial’ before he announced the end of Earth and his project on Titan. Being a self made billionaire he used his riches all those years ago to send drones to find a planet that could be used after the death of Earth.”
Johnson’s findings had been passed on to Drakos; it would seem that the book had been moved onto Titan, it was believed to have caused Earths impending destruction.
The book spread evil that created conflict and greed, plus destructive behaviour of the people who lived where ever it was opened; this unfortunately was our beloved mother planet.
According to Fantacia’s psychic abilities she could not pick up any traces of the books presence when she arrived on Titan, so therefore she felt a little confused when Drakos gave her the information, with her connection to the book she was sure she would have felt its aura.
“Drakos, I am sorry to say, I have nothing, the feeling is that this book still remains on Earth!” she said.
“You feel nothing indicating its presence here?” said Drakos.
“I’m sorry, no!” she shook her head.
Drakos paused, he looked at the women sat at the table and then decided to get on with things...
“I believe we should get on now with the introductions...” He said changing the subject swiftly “Here on my right is Mia is from Denver, USA. When on Earth she immigrated to England where she graduated from the University with a first in her degree, she had begun her masters in research in Human sciences. She has been here on Titan now for 4 months…”
Fantacia closed herself off from his conversation opening her mind to the graduate, Mia was Asian with beautiful long straight black hair and she came across a bit pompous.
Her brown eye’s looked slightly blood shot, but Fantacia put that down to her being a researcher. Her experience of researchers was that they sat at subject books and computers all their working lives, so the blood shot eyes came with the job. Mia stood tiny in comparison to all the others in her group, 5 feet 6 inches, she was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt with a white waist length lab coat that was open, with black, red and blue pens in her chest pocket, which was also a researchers profiling.
Mia looked like most lab assistants at a University, she smiled at Fantacia as if she knew that she was trying to delve into her subconscious mind, but how could she possibly know this?
As Fantacia opened her mind to Mia, she seemed to be a bit of an airhead, yet the only information that had not been blocked by her was she felt hungry and just wanted Drakos to hurry up and stop talking, so she could go get some breakfast.
Fantacia smiled back at the young girl who looked in her mid twenties, but she had become a little suspicious of Mia because all other information had been blocked from her psychic abilities.
Fantacia’s concentration was broken by Drakos talking loudly again.
“Sat next to our researcher is Ghost!” he said.
Drakos looked like the man who had just found a rare artefact, but again the conversation drifted away into nothing as Fantacia searched Ghost’s mind for information. Unlike Mia, Ghost was an open book; the two sat conversing with one another as Ghost explained who she was over Drakos’s banter.
“I have no memory of my past.” Ghost communicated telepathically “I am what is known as a shape-shifter, this is the main reason I have been hired, but I also have psychic powers, including being a telepath which is why we can talk to one another so easily.”
Fantacia got up staring at her new friend for a while, she walked over to Ghost who began to stand up on her feet in greeting; Ghost seemed a little taller than Fantacia which on Earth was very tall for a female, assuming that is where she had come from, she looked Otherworldly.
She wore a long flowing robe, her hair was white-silver, her complexion was young, what they could make of it, as she wore a black opera mask hiding the top half of her face, she seemed to be in her late twenties, her clothes were an off white colour with a cream lace trim around the bottom of the neck and sleeves, she had strange silver patterning embroidered on the robes. When Fantacia looked at her eyes they had the familiar silver/blue colouring which stood out under the black of the mask, like Orion’s and Drakos’s, like hers as well.
“Why are you hiding your face?” Orion asked her, he began standing up and was about to head over and touch Ghost’s mask.
Ghost did not reply, she just sat silently connecting psychically with those around her.
“ORION!” Drakos shouted “We do not need to know that, just keep quiet, I am sure if she wishes you to know that information she will tell you in time.”
A silence hit the room for a second.
“I was only asking... moaning git!” Orion said resuming his seat in the room.
“Ghost is a researcher of the black arts, the occult; she has dealings with magic and has the ability to shape-shift!” Drakos droned back into their ears as they both turned to look at him, the others in the room gasped with surprise as Fantacia put her hand out towards her new friend…
“Can I?” she said.
“Yes, go ahead.” replied Ghost.
Fantacia put her hand on Ghost’s shoulder, as she did it seemed to disappear through Ghost’s body, even the clothes swallowed her hand. As she did this, a sudden infusion of feelings hit Fantacia, they were of sadness and mourning which hit her hard, it was as if Ghost had been searching for the one she had lost, her lover and lifelong partner, the ache was excruciating.
Fantacia pulled her hand away quickly; she felt that this was way too intrusive.
“I’m sorry.” Fantacia said to her still feeling the burn from the emotional connection.
“Don’t be.” Ghost smiled, they both knew instantly that they had good allies in one another and bonded as friends.
All the others could do in the room was to sit watching, being both impressed but confused by the half conversation the two friends just had with one another.
“So then…” Orion broke into the moment, looking at the person Drakos had not yet introduced “Who is this?” he said a little rudely.
“This lady is our funding;” Drakos said gritting his teeth “she has hired us, SHE pays our wages.” Drakos looked sharply at Orion; his son never did know when he was being tactless.
“Sorry, these two are always like this; they never know when to stop.” Fantacia said turning to look now at the woman sitting next to Mia at the table.
She was a smartly dressed woman wearing a traditional black trouser suit with a white shirt, black patent flat shoes, no jewellery... she had the same silver eyes... This was getting a little strange now, but it could be coincidence, couldn’t it?
Fantacia was a little unsure.
The woman’s hair was a strange red, not a ginger red, but a deep blood red! Her eyes stood out more due to her vibrant hair colour and her hand had the familiar scar, one that Fantacia had also worn ever since she could remember, yet she had no memory of how it got there. It must be a common thing as Orion, Sky, Emmina and Drakos had it too. Perhaps it is just a familiar type of life line she thought to herself.
“So why are we here?” Fantacia asked.
Drakos began opening his mouth, but the woman jumped into the conversation quickly; she obviously had enough of Drakos’s long winded introductions.
“My name is Bethadora, but I am known and wish to be called Beth.” Beth looked around at her team. “The Book of Belial is believed to have been teleported onto Titan and smuggled into the city. We are all too aware of what happened to Earth when the book had been opened there, it was doomed. So your mission is to find and destroy the book before it is used and makes our new home a casualty of its destructive powers.”
Fantacia was still unsure that the book was here, she began feeling suspicious of her new boss, which was quick even for her.
She began to wonder if she had been brought here on a wild goose chase.
She believed that there was much more to this than she was picking up in her psychic mind, Fantacia had to move from Earth, she understood this, but the book was still doing a great job destroying the planet when she left this was apparent, so why was she being told that the book was here on Titan?
Beth interrupted Fantacia’s train of thought “We believe that the book has been brought here to Titan to be opened, so that this moon faces the same destruction as Earth.” She emphasised again.
Fantacia looked down ignoring Beth’s little speech... she began to remember the book, being the only person to have survived its powers.
Her mind drifted back in time to her house in Redditch, Worcestershire, UK and her friend Phoenix, who had taught her about her psychic powers and helped to advance them.
Phoenix was the owner of ‘The Book of Belial’ he had kept it hidden from all who had lived with him since he had taken it that night in Berlin. He had also claimed responsibility for the book when he had stolen it from the shop owner who, as the tradition proclaimed had paid with his life.
Fantacia had loved the old man and his death had been a great strain on her life and affected her for many years even to this day, she had missed both him and his guidance.
The books power had called to her from the moment she had been in its presence, its power emanated like a plague on her soul.
Phoenix stood a massive six feet four inches tall, his hair was long and grey, his eye’s whitened with a mist as he had become blind through his dealings with the Devil and the black arts.
“So my white bitch… let’s see if you truly are for the good, or if you have some evil inside you after all.” Phoenix let out a laugh and handed Fantacia the book.
Fantacia looked at him in confusion, but took the book home leaving it un-opened on the table in her kitchen. It was late so her babysitter had immediately got up and gone home, Fantacia walked upstairs getting into bed as her phone rang.
“If you need me, all you have to do is call my name.” Phoenix then hung up.
“Mmh…silly old man.” Fantacia said as she walked upstairs and got into bed falling to sleep quickly; what happened next was one of the most frightening experiences she had ever remembered having.
As she slept, her house began to bleed, inside and outside of the walls.
The floors had maggots seeping through and her bedroom ceiling did the same, a strange laughter was heard echoing all over the house.
Fantacia had grabbed her two children and was standing on her bed with them cuddled into her side.
“Phoenix please, help me!” She screamed at the top of her lungs.
Phoenix appeared at the bedroom door as if he was floating above oblivious to it all, but he looked very different, his face looked bulged in places which exaggerated areas above his eyes and around his mouth, he had two sets of white fangs gleaming as he smiled at her, clicked his fingers and raised his arms.
His eyes turned black as he shouted “STOP!”
Fantacia awoke with a start; everything in the room had gone back to normal, like nothing had happened it had just been a very realistic dream. The next morning at 6.30 she had marched back over to Phoenix with the book in hand, never even taking a look inside it.
“Have this back you bastard!” she said thrusting the book at him.
Phoenix began to laugh “I came when you called didn’t I?”
“You’re an evil old sod!” Fantacia couldn’t help but see the funny side of it all, or was it just relief to have the book back where it belonged.
Now with her daydream over, Fantacia came back into the room consciously as Beth was still talking about the book.
“You do know what you are asking us to do don’t you?” Fantacia said.
“Yes, I am aware you have experienced the books power first hand, you are very lucky.” Beth replied.
“Lucky?” Fantacia looked a little angry now.
“Well you have more of a connection than we do…its new owner…”
Fantacia interrupted Beth abruptly “New owner! Phoenix died of natural causes, he remains the books owner.”
Beth went to argue back but found herself interrupted.
“The legend says that the old owner would need to die of un-natural causes before someone new possesses it, anyone who has done any research into this book would know this.” Fantacia barked abruptly.
Ghost stood with Fantacia.
“This is true.” Ghost said.
Fantacia walked away to calm down, Ghost quickly followed, Drakos indicated to the others to sit down as this would probably take a while he went over to Fantacia.
Beth and Mia sat down with a sigh.
Mia was getting really hungry now.
Ghost stood by Fantacia and Drakos approached.
“What is it? I know that you don’t usually jump down people’s throats like this, only mine.” he said, trying to be a little amusing.
“I don’t know Drakos, I just don’t like her. She has something about her that is familiar and bad!” Fantacia said.
“Mmh. Not best friend material then?” Drakos said smiling; he looked at Fantacia the smile disappeared from his face. “Oh, you’re serious?” he said.
“I distrust her. She’s hiding something; we need to be really careful. The book is not on Titan, I would swear this on my own life.” she said looking into his sympathetic eyes.
“I too sense that all is not what it seems here Drakos.” Ghost said.
Drakos looked at the floor then he whispered to them both “I know, I can only promise to be doubly careful, I cannot explain right now, but can only ask that you both trust me. All will be revealed in time.”
Drakos tried to put his arm around Fantacia, but she pulled back from him angry at his reaction. Was he saying for them to walk into a trap, to follow directions that would lead them on a fool’s errand? Had he let his standards slip while he had been on Titan?
Fantacia seriously doubted this, but what could possibly be his explanation for going along with this farce?
Fantacia caught Beth’s face looking over, she looked like she had been caught with her hand in the cookie jar, so Fantacia allowed Drakos’s arm to fall onto her shoulder.
“Please, Fantacia you must trust me.” Drakos said.
Fantacia smiled and the three went back to the table and sat down, Beth’s face filled with relief.
When the meeting was over, they all left the office building going to their own destinations.
It was less than a month ago when Fantacia and Orion were still on Earth, they were now all feeling out of place, locked in their metal prison, far away from the home they pined for, no more blue sky, green grass with that fresh mowed smell that used to give Sky hay fever, no more taking Shadow for walks in the park on the hot summer evenings.
Everything here had been made by man and was looking part of the evolutionary chain, man did adapt, but to what?
The Human race would never be able to adapt to living out here on the moon’s surface, the moon’s atmosphere was freezing cold, breathing in methane instead of oxygen would never happen, Humans had not been meant to survive here.
Even science advances could not help people, the plants and animals which could adapt on Earth could not here. All would have to live with a constant fear of the metal domes cracking letting in the atmosphere from outside, methane creeping in destroying all the hard work of man and the loss of every type of life here including theirs.
Then what? The end of our species, Humans would be like the Dinosaurs, extinct!
Religion is different here, the academics have no time for God and there are no churches those who were still insecure enough to believe never mention their faith.
But still the 25th December would be time to stop everything, the Earth ritual of Christmas day would remain a celebration for everyone to take part in.
Fantacia smiled as she thought to herself, this was her favourite day of the year, whether on Earth or Titan, the thought of putting the Christmas tree up the day before, all the decorations, good food, friends giving useless gifts to one another made her feel warm inside and perhaps gave her a little hope that Earth could survive.
No one in her family ever dared to spoil it for her; she loved the whole ritual of shopping, cooking the gigantic turkey that lasted for days afterwards, parties and friends visiting and her family sending Christmas cards so that she remembered they knew of her existence. They had all stayed on Earth, well those with more distance anyway, the ones left behind would soon be dead, as the chimes of doom sound in December 2512.
Fantacia nervously laughed to herself, all of this unimportant now.
In less than twenty-three months Earth would be gone!
Fantacia sighed, she missed her home, her mind began to drift again and then she tried to shake it off “Why am I such a day dreamer!” she thought.
She sat down with a cuppa at her kitchen table in her new home; she began to think of her time at University with one of her young friends, his cheeky smile and very handsome face. She had very little contact with him now, but she really hoped he had made it here. The thought that he was still on Earth was upsetting for her. He had taken a job working with mentally ill patients in a hospital and enjoyed his job. There were two hospitals on Titan, so she made a promise to herself that she would check to see if he had made it here, he was skilled enough in many areas, so he could be helping in construction as he came from a family of builders.
Her options were getting much better, giving her more places to search for him as building work was ongoing all over the moon surface, but she would try the hospitals first, let’s not get ahead of ourselves she thought to herself, hoping he had found work in one of them.
“I love that daft kid.” She said out loud bringing herself back to reality.
Fantacia managed to stop her daydreaming joining the others in the front room. This was open planned adjoining a yellow wallpapered kitchen; the front room area had been decorated in red and cream, where a large set of soft black suede sofas with a huge LCD television in the corner all sat. They were watching some terrible quiz show, her mind wandered in and out of memories of Earth and her journey here; she began to gently nod off, feet resting on Drakos, who had as usual drifted off to sleep himself.
Orion just looked at his parents shaking his head.
“Old people.” he said.
Orion walked over turning off the Television, placing a fleece blanket over them both, then made his way upstairs to bed turning off the lights as he went.
Chapter 3
Travelling on the roads of Titan had been a challenge; one that Fantacia had enjoyed, the trouble was that they moved from hotels to bed and breakfasts quickly, not staying long enough anywhere in particular for a long period of time.
The call came in for them to move on again, everything seemed to be going just as she expected, dead end after dead end.
She knew in her heart that something was wrong, the chase for the book seemed to be never ending, she was sure it was still on Earth, because she could sense its power, it was always present to her, ever since that night in Worcestershire, UK when she had fought off its evil.
Fantacia and the team were in the lounge of a hotel, she walked away from the others as she begun searching in her mind for clues she may have missed.
She had no trust for Beth, or her side kick Mia.
She knew that they could both lead her and the team to their death, her problem was she didn’t quite understand why?
What would Beth gain from this?
Not the book because no one would find it on Titan anyway, so what was this really about?
The book had to be on Earth, she knew this in her mind and her intuition was never wrong. Yet Beth had hired the team in the first place, maybe it wasn’t that she couldn’t find it, maybe her plan was to kill the team once we found the book, Fantacia turned this over in her mind again and again.
Shadow came into the room and sat by her feet, he whined, putting his head on her lap as she patted his head gently and began talking to him.
“What is it boy? What am I missing? I know we are going to end up in trouble because of this Beth woman, she really is a problem you know!”
The dog whined again, so Fantacia got up, took him outside and they walked the street until they came to a dog poo designated area, when he had finished, the two of them went back to the hotel again, going back into the same room, only this time she sat on the floor so that the dog could cuddle in next to her legs. The room had light blue paint on the walls, very plain and modern, she hated modern it was very clinical. The furniture in the room was the opposite; the table was a red wood she had never seen before, the chairs all frilly and chintzy with blue velour cushions. It was like something from a 1920’s film on Earth, the old black and white’s were always Fantacia’s favourites, but the furniture was always over the top. The curtains were also the same velour material making everything match nicely in an eggshell blue Hell, well it would be if Fantacia had to live there permanently, luckily she had decided to go home today, back to her house on Titan, she didn’t really see it as home even though she was stuck there, a small converted hotel she had found and got permission to live in, out of the way of civilisation as Titan knew it, the area was still empty.
Fantacia decided it was time to stop the bullshit; she went to find the others, Shadow followed beside her.
“Drakos! Get up…time to go.” she said.
“What? Wait! Where are we going? Have you heard from Beth?” he said.
“No! Just get up it’s time to stop being used like a bunch of idiots and we get a grip with what is really going on, get the others, I will meet you in the lobby in ten minutes…don’t bother with Ghost she is already here with me.” said Fantacia as she headed back down the hallway.
“Oh great, I get to wake up the boy then!” Drakos cursed under his breath, as she smiled at him looking back.
Fantacia and Ghost headed back downstairs, the dog decided to stay by Orion’s door and wait he scratched at it whining.
“Okay, okay Shadow I am up!” Orion shouted.
Drakos and Orion met in the hall, which was a relief because Drakos really hated the ‘calling and being ignored thing’.
They both went down the hall to the lift; meeting the other two who were sitting in the café part of the hotel.
Fantacia was drinking coffee, Ghost didn’t appear to be drinking anything, she didn’t seem to eat or drink very much at all, when she did it was usually plain things like bread or just water.
“Time to stop all this messing about, don’t you think?” Fantacia said looking at Drakos “You are supposed to be in charge here, we have been on a wild goose chase looking for a book that isn’t here; it’s time now to stop before we walk into one of this woman’s traps.”
“What?” Orion looked a little confused “Are you saying that we should just stop looking?”
“More than that, we should start looking for something more relevant. Beth knows that the book is not here, she has paid a lot of money to keep us occupied and I need to know why.”
Drakos looked a little uncomfortable, he began wriggling in his chair, Fantacia looked at him. “That information you have been keeping to yourself since we moved to Titan, now I think is the time for you to open your mouth.” she said.
“Okay, but I think we should make a few enquiries about our researcher first.” Drakos said to her. Fantacia looked a little annoyed with him, but the way she saw it was anything that meant they stopped wasting time would be good, so she went along with it.
“So where does Mia live?” she asked a little frustrated.
“52 North Quadrant, it’s about 35 minutes by car.” Drakos picked up Shadow’s lead and they all went outside and climbed into the land rover.
“Okay guys hold onto your hats.” Orion said as he took the keys to the jeep.
Orion put his foot on the gas so the journey only lasted 25 minutes, if Ghost wasn’t already pale she would be now, Orion drove like a maniac.
The flats looked empty except for a few occupied places, 52 North Quadrant stood about five storeys high, it had red brick walls which coloured the metal ‘skies’, it did not have any trees or grass surrounding it, just plain grounds, with a concrete road around all the blocks for people to park their vehicles.
Just two of the flats in 52 North Quadrant were occupied.
“Which one?” Fantacia asked.
“52 d.” said Drakos.
The flat stood on the second floor, with no net curtains and office type roller blinds in the windows, keeping her flat private, the building door was ajar, so no problem with gaining access, the team walked up the small set of stairs taking them to the second floor, there had been no lift in these buildings, so Orion was glad that she didn’t live on the top floor.
“Do you think she will be in?” he asked
“Hopefully not, we could do with a quick look around to see what they have been hiding.” Fantacia said.
Fantacia gave Drakos a look. She had been with this man for years, now she had for the first time found a reason to distrust him. He always appeared to know a lot more than he had been telling the rest of the team and that made her feel angry.
They reached the beige coloured door with 52d displayed on the letterbox, Drakos stood at the front and knocked, nothing…he knocked again and then called through the letterbox.
“Mia, it’s me, Drakos I’m with the team!”
Fantacia nudged Orion as she spotted the security camera scanning its way down and passed the team, observing them standing there.
“Job for you I believe.” she said.
Orion jumped up, his giant frame had no difficulty reaching the camera, he pulled hard at the electric cables cutting off the power, the buzzing sound faded from the machinery as it lost life.
“Okay, now let’s see if she is in.” Fantacia said.
Ghost raised her hand to stop them from forcing the door, she then stepped through it as if it was water, concentrating, she un-locked the door with her powers on the other side; letting the rest of the team into the flat.
“Impressive!” Orion said to her going to pat her on the shoulder, then remembering that actually this was not possible.
The walls in the hallway were nothing special, a clinical magnolia colour with an oat coloured carpet, no pictures or photographs on the walls, just hooks with coats hanging from them, a denim jacket and a cream coloured mac. Why she had the mac was slightly pointless, because it doesn’t rain on Titan, everything was indoors and the plants here were even watered by a sprinkler system.
There was another three rooms that led from the hallway, a bedroom with baby pink everywhere, so clean and tidy it was obvious that there was no point searching it; the bathroom was the same.
Then there was the front room!
“Oh-My-God!” Orion said “What- The- Hell?”
This room was completely disorganised, it was covered with papers, books and was so untidy you didn’t know if it had a carpet in there, you actually couldn’t see it, there were dirty plates, rubbish from bars of cereal and sweets scattered everywhere.
“My God, Orion it looks like your bedroom!” Drakos said laughing.
“No, my carpet is black with multicoloured patterns I saw it when I was last there.” he said, still looking amazed at the mess.
“Where the hell do we start?” Fantacia asked as she looked over at Ghost who was stood holding her nose.
“How can any Human live in this?” Ghost asked.
“I have no idea; it’s like a bloody pig sty.” Drakos said.
“Wait! Look at this! There are newspapers here from Earth.” Orion handed Fantacia a small pile of papers.
The papers headline read ‘New PM doing well, economy boosted as new businesses and higher wages promised’ Fantacia scanned around for the date, 31st May 2511. She dropped the paper back on the floor with shock, then scrambled to pick it up again.
“This paper is dated one week ago.” She said handing it over to Drakos.
The man pictured in the paper made Drakos do a double take!
He handed the paper to Orion, who had no clue why his father had recognised the figure standing at the podium.
Ghost then looked at the news paper “Belial!” she whispered, collapsing to her knees, she was left sitting with her legs folded on the floor in a Zen like trance.
“What now?” Orion asked sarcastically “Do we sit here and wait for Ghost to come round, Mia and Beth could turn up at any minute?”
Drakos attempted to pick Ghost up by scooping her in his arms with no success.
“Don’t bother.” Fantacia said to him, she then turned to her son “We will have to risk it Orion, we cannot pick her up, we just keep going straight through her.”
The team sat waiting for two things to happen, either, Mia and Beth would return or Ghost would come round, it was like waiting for bad or good news, everyone felt very nervous.
For four days they waited, suddenly Ghost took a sharp intake of breath and stood up.
“It’s time for us to leave.” she said.
“Why are they coming back?” Drakos asked.
“Yes, we have only minutes to vacate this property.” Ghost looked at the door.
The team ran to the door, down the stairs, then they climbed into the car and drove around the side of the building out of sight, this was just in time to witness the open top jeep turning the corner with both Beth and Mia laughing at one another, then pulling into the parking space allocated to her.
“As they walk into the building we need to exit quickly.” Drakos said to them as he started the engine of the jeep, keeping it ticking over.
“What’s the plan?” Orion said.
“Let’s go back to the hotel and wait for them to contact us and say they have had intruders.” Fantacia said.
Drakos revved the engine slightly, then he put his foot down, hoping that the sound of his car would not attract Beth and Mia’s attention as they had walked into the building; he didn’t want them to look back.
“We need to act normally when they get to us, they will be minutes behind, so we will have to look like we have been at the hotel all day waiting for them.” he said.
“What time is it now?” Fantacia asked.
“2.45 pm” Orion said looking at his watch “put the jeep in the hotel garage, otherwise they will be able to check the front of the car, the engine will be hot and they will know it has been used recently.”
As suspected it took only 7 minutes after they returned before Beth and Mia arrived, they looked frantically for members of the team; Beth smiled and sighed with relief when she spotted them.
“Is everything alright Beth?” Drakos enquired as she came towards them.”
“No Drakos not really, I have just driven back from a meeting with Mia and when we went to her flat, it had been broken into.” she said.
Drakos raised his eyebrows in surprise, looking very shocked.
“He’s good.” Orion whispered softly to his mother “Too good perhaps!”
“Was anything taken?” Ghost asked.
“No nothing, but they had left the door open, not a thing was touched as if they had been caught in the act.” Beth said.
“Well maybe they had been seen, have you asked her neighbours if they saw anything?” Drakos said.
The conversation stopped just for a minute when Mia came over, she looked a little upset.
Orion was thinking that this was more than likely because someone had been in and seen the utter shit sty she lived in. A real burglar would have left her a fiver to pay towards getting some one in to clean up.
“So is there any news to tell us? What was the meeting about? Is there anything new to report about our mission?” Drakos said quite unaffected by their news now.
“Yes, we have found another lead Drakos. It appears that crime in Quadrant 39 has suddenly hit an all time high, it is looking like signs of the book being opened there, you will need to investigate this. We have a place for you and the others to stay, you are to meet Joshua at Quadrant 38 on the outskirts of the place and he has temporary living quarters for you. He will be there at 8.30 am.” Beth said.
“Why, has the crime rate gone up really?” Orion whispered to his mother “Does she live there?”
The two smaned at each other, then both went straight faced when Beth looked over.
Mia and Beth left only looking back to smile and wave as the team got together to discuss their next plan of action.
“So do we follow the path to certain doom, or go our own way?” Drakos asked “Either way we know she will make an attempt on our lives, sending Joshua as an ambush, or if we do not turn up, she will instantly know it was us in Mia’s flat and we know that Earth has a new Prime Minister and that this is a trap.”
“I say we just go our own way, I am not in the mood for a fight really, knowing that bitch, the ambush will be massive and we won’t stand a chance.” Orion said to his father “Why walk into a fight where we will be outnumbered and risk our lives?”
They agreed with him, then packed their stuff to head back to Fantacia’s house, which they knew would be Beth’s next port of call when they didn’t show at Joshua’s meeting place.
Fantacia looked at Drakos who smiled and nodded “I have a story to tell you all, on our way home, you will remain with us Ghost it is too dangerous for you to be alone at the moment.” he said.
“Yes of course, this story will be interesting my friend.” she said with a smile.
They all got into the car and began the journey back home, well as close to home as Fantacia was going to get, because the one thing she had realised was that she now had a way back to Earth, that is unless a paper boy travelled all the way to Titan, which was impossible, so at the first opportunity she would be taking it, so would her family.
Orion could start his education again and Sky would be able to take up her career where she left off.
Whatever they did would be fine to her, just as long as she could get out of this Hellhole.
Chapter 4
Drakos knew that the journey home would take him around an hour, but if he took his time he could add another 15 minutes to it, he wasn’t sure of the outcome, but knew Fantacia would need more than just the legend to be told to remember her past, he wasn’t sure if she was quite ready for that, so decided to take it easy and see how well she took the first part of the story.
“Firstly I need you to keep an open mind.” he said.
“Okay, come on Father just get on with this, I love stories in the car!” said Orion as he wrinkled his nose trying to mimic a child.
“I don’t think that sarcasm is going to help very much here Orion!” Drakos said giving him a swift kick sideways in the shin.
“Ouch.” Orion rubbed at his leg as the car’s engine started.
“Do you believe in alien life forms?” Drakos looked and waited for the sarcasm again.
“Yes, I believe, we can’t be the only living things in the whole Universe. I think as Humans we have to accept that we just haven’t found anything yet. There is also the matter of our friend here.” Orion turned his attention to Ghost.
Drakos smiled at his son, his eyes then drifted to the two women in the back of the car.
“I want to tell you about another planet… in Mythus, a Nebular which is home to our small Galaxy, quite a distance away from here. The planet I am going to talk about is called Vox and its inhabitants are Voxians.” he said.
“Is this going to take long? I’ve brought my music.” Orion said flashing his music player at them all.
“Orion have some patience with me, this does in fact affect you as well.” Drakos said.
“Sorry Father.” Orion went quiet.
“The legend claims Angels had been sent to seek Demons, who had escaped into the Universe, this is not about an existence of God, but it is about higher beings who have been sent to protect our Universe.” Drakos went on.
“So you are now saying that the legend is about the creation of the Universe?” Orion said.
“Yes, I am. There were many Angels, Gabriel, Michael, Kathos and others” Continued Drakos “This legend is about the Angel Kathos. He was sent on a mission to bring back Belial who was created after Satan, he was summoned from Hell to cause destruction. The story tells of a book, called ‘The Book of Demons’, that if used, can bring back Belial, so without its destruction Kathos would be chasing this Demon forever, the book was made from the tortured souls of Belial’s Angel Brothers that he had left behind, lined and coloured by their tears as Belial was banished from their world forever.”
All sat in silence because this was the story of the very book they had been chasing and Fantacia had held in her hands that night on Earth, no wonder she had felt so terrified of it all that time ago on Earth.
The book was pure evil.
“On his journey while searching the Universe, Kathos discovered Vox and its people, the people were peace loving and beautiful. He had never seen such powers, some had speed, others were psychic, some could tell the future, others flew in the sky, but all the people were harmonious and loved to live together.
The Voxians accepted the Angel and saw his power as good to have on the planet, he eventually after many years fell in love with the Voxian Princess Ledawna, in time Kathos became the Voxian’s new leader who had more power than the species, the longer he remained with them the more his people adapted, in time becoming strong themselves. Kathos and Ledawna had three children were named Rellik, Rexus and a daughter, Bethadora.”
Drakos stopped talking, waiting patiently for a reaction.
“So does this mean that you knew who Beth was then?” Orion asked.
“I never made the connection, for years now I have only heard of her through stories. I became suspicious when your Mother took an instant dislike to her, I had no idea that she was the actual Voxian princess Bethadora until we went to the flat, she is very different on Earth and Titan than on Vox.”
Again they sat in silence, this explanation was taking longer than Drakos had hoped, he had a lot of ground to cover and they had already travelled half of the journey.
Drakos carried on talking:
“Capalia is one of two Islands on Vox; it’s the bigger Island which covers many thousands even hundreds of thousands of miles. There are mountains, villages and a city, but mainly Capalia is covered in forests of trees where the Voxian people spend their time hunting food. The houses even in the villages are large like the people they all vary in styles. Although the Capalians live in harmony to this day the smaller island to the north called Raithar is a different matter. The Raitharns are not peaceful people, they are allies of Bethadora and she rules over them with an iron fist, all Voxians on this island have to relinquish their powers otherwise face her wrath and she has no mercy for those who disobey her.”
“So what is the Raithar Island like?” Orion said.
“No one really knows, the Capalians have never set foot there, it was just wasteland, Beth took it over with her followers and then she began recruiting from places like Earth. The Humans are weak, not like the Voxians, but she uses them like servants.”
“So it is obvious that Beth has a plan to take over somewhere” Orion said interrupting, he couldn’t work out where this would be and who she had on her side, but Belial certainly came to mind.
Drakos looked at his son and continued his conversation ignoring him.
Orion gave a shrug and just let his father speak.
“The land in Raithar became barren, they have very little grass and a few trees, the animals there are scarce, so the Raitharn eat foods that have been ready prepared and longer lasting, this is an advantage to us… we know they will not take over our lands, you see, the packaged food has stopped them from hunting, so they have become far too lazy.”
Drakos took a swig of his drink, the temperature inside the domes was hot and his throat had become dry from talking, he continued with his story again.
“But twice now Bethadora has joined Belial, twice they have failed to win us. Kathos has sent Belial back to Hell, but he has realised now that whoever has the book can recall him. The last reader from the book was the German shop keeper in Berlin, Phoenix killed him to own the book, but Phoenix never called Belial himself, he only ever made the book safe, he even had another version of the book made, copied and processed by a publisher, he had this on hand for anyone who wanted possession of it. This of course was a fake and had no power.”
“So what happened then? Did the book get found?” Orion asked.
“No-one found the book, it was kept in the attic of his first house in Inkberrow in Worcestershire, the house was in the middle of the woods and was rumoured to be haunted, this stopped potential buyers and the house as far as we know as remained empty, but no book has been found there. Kathos has searched it himself, there is nothing.” Drakos said.
The car came to a halt as they arrived back at the hotel that had become their home, they all sat outside for a while; again Drakos looked in his mirror and at the two women who were sat in the backseat, both silent.
“Is this too much?” He asked Fantacia.
“Just stop for a moment, let’s get in and have a cuppa, we can discuss this further.” she said a little confused.
Fantacia got out of the car and walked towards the house, a million questions in her head, she had different memories, her mother who had died when she was 11 years old, she could remember the pain, her family shoving her from one place to another not giving a care only about them. I suppose that really gave an explanation why her three sisters had been years older than she was, one had children older than her, one of her sisters spent her time bullying and telling her she was a mistake, which she believed because her parents had both been very old when she was born. Her father had died in a house fire, Orion had never met his grandfather and Fantacia had been alienated by her family, she didn’t even cry at the news of his death, for this she had felt guilty for years. All of it had made a lot more sense now, it was true she had not been a part of this family and despite the need to fit in with them, Fantacia never did.
They all sat down with tea, Fantacia sat on a chair alone but in full view of the others, she looked at Drakos.
“You have questions don’t you?” he said.
“Just a few.” Fantacia didn’t want to go there, so they sat talking about Beth for a while.
“Why did she want us here? What has Titan got to do with her gaining power?” Orion asked.
“I can help with that.” Ghost said “I have checked the newspaper from Earth and I want you all to look again closely, I think you may notice a lot more now, look at the people in the background.”
The newspaper was produced again, they had taken it while hurrying out of the flat, it had a picture of the new Prime Minister in the background stood two others, Beth and Mia.
There in Beth’s hands was the book!
Fantacia recognised it immediately, she realised that it was the copy of ‘The Book of Demons’ once owned by Phoenix, this sent a shudder down her spine as the others looked at her.
A metallic black tint appeared on Fantacia’s face, as quickly as it had appeared it disappeared.
“She maybe remembering something, this will take time to return.” said Drakos.
Out of the blue Orion stood up with a smile on his face “I’m a fricking alien!” he shouted as the realisation suddenly hit him.
The others laughed at him as he danced about making a prat of himself as always, the questions began.
“So what does this mean? What about all those years we have spent on Earth, what do our species live on?” Orion began.
“Not cheese on toast!” Drakos smiled at his son “A lot of the missions I left to go on, were because I had to leave so that I could get home to Vox, we hunt animals in the vast forests of Capalia and we drink their blood.”
“Cool! Like vampires?” Orion said.
“No not like freaking vampires, these creatures aren’t anything like the Human stories say anyway. Let’s not complicate things more, with species that aren’t our concern at the moment. We are living, breathing people.” Drakos snapped.
“So is everyone here Voxian?” Orion looked at Ghost.
“God, Orion sometimes you are so subtle, yes, we are all Voxians even Ghost, who I believe is a very rare shape shifter, I have no idea why she is as she is, but I am hoping that once back on our own planet things will improve for her and she will be able to become solid again if she wishes. I apologise Ghost for talking about you when you are here in the room with me, but we all know how hard it is to get information across to Orion sometimes, he can be such an idiot for an intelligent person.” Drakos said.
Ghost smiled at them saying nothing, the thought that she had a home was quite a relief to her, as she had been searching for what seemed like an eternity for a place she could belong.
“What do you mean by I should be remembering something? What could be that bad that I would abandon my life on Vox and my family?” Fantacia said.
Drakos pulled her close to him, this had all been too much for her and Drakos would have to put off his storytelling for a short time, but he would contact Kathos and let him know that his family would be home very soon.
“Let’s have some food, you can sit down and watch your favourite film.” Orion said picking up a pack of frozen cheese and tomato pizza, switching on the oven.
“What food, BLOOD?” Fantacia began to sob, she looked disgusted.
Drakos hugged her close again, pulling her from the chair and sat her on his lap, he realised that she was finding it hard to accept the deceit; he didn’t want to tell her yet that it was actually her wish to have her memories changed.
“I know it must be hard to believe that you aren’t who you thought you were.” Drakos held Fantacia’s hand “Come on, have some pizza! You’ll be okay, have something to eat, you will figure this out once you have all your original memories back again, I promise you that my sweet.”
Fantacia felt safe and warm in his arms, she stayed there for just a little while longer.
Tired, she began eating her pizza, but gave it up as a bad job half way through, leaving it on her plate for Orion to eat.
She then got up and headed towards the stairs, wished them all good night, then she walked up the stairs to bed.
Chapter 5
The Titan moon’s atmosphere was unsafe, but this did not stop the small silver ship from landing on its surface near the domes. The ship was so sophisticated that the occupiers could land the Voxian vessel almost at the front door.
It sparkled, silver in colour which made it almost look like liquid mercury, it was silent, unseen by the occupants inside the metal city, the ship remained undetected by the radar system inside.
“We must stay undetected, scan for an unoccupied place, so they don’t see us teleport inside.” Kathos said.
“Yes Your Majesty.” Comet stood at the ships computer, scanning Titan’s surface, he stood 6 foot 6 with mousey brown hair and was very handsome, almost perfect, except for the slight skewed angle in his nose, like it had been broken. His muscled body wore blue jeans, a red t-shirt with a long black leather coat plus boots on his feet that looked like he was dressed for hiking or even building construction.
“We’re ready now Grandfather, be prepared to teleport with the shuttle, Comet give me a destination.” Safire said, at last she would be able to see to her sister again after all this time.
“We are very lucky; there is a point just next to Fantacia’s house, it looks like a warehouse.” Comet said turning towards Kathos for his approval.
“That will do nicely my boy, be prepared to teleport.”
Orion was still elated from discovering his true origin, he couldn’t believe he had spent all that time thinking he was a giant amongst little people who couldn’t resist making comments about him, he lived with the nickname ‘Lanky’ throughout his childhood and his adult life as well, while people in the street would have to state the obvious “Look at him isn’t he tall!”
He never had a problem with this, his friends from college had a great admiration for him, so it was a novelty for him really, his friends were many, no one attempted to pick on him, but if you had any sense really you wouldn’t, would you? His size alone stopped the neighbourhood undesirables from attempting anything.
Orion tended to come up against the odd idiot who found it funny to push into him for a dare, you could hear the quiet laughter and the “Watch this!” but Orion always seem to have been one step ahead of them, he would move out of the way making his idiot assailant trip over himself, “after all they are just dumb asses” Orion would say.
Orion sat smiling every now and again Orion giving out a chuckle “I’m a frickin’ alien!” he said shaking his head.
He then decided to go find his father who was sat in the kitchen reading the morning papers; he wanted to ask more about his species, there was still so much he needed to know.
The kitchen was small enough, it had yellow wall paper that Fantacia didn’t actually like very much, but this was Titan, there wasn’t a lot of choice yet. The units were made of oak with black marble tops, nothing special to her, so she didn’t make that much effort when designing the decor.
Drakos looked up and smiled at his son, it was fantastic being able to finally talk to him about their home planet, he believed that Fantacia would be fine once she had realised this was a good thing.
“Father, surely there must be consequences for us living as Humans all this time?”
“Yes Son, but nothing that won’t come back. You see, we didn’t think you would be living as a Human for quite this long, also you have to realise you are not just a Voxian, you are also part Angel.”
Orion looked a little shocked.
“I was sent to Earth originally to protect you all, I had been on Earth for so long that eventually I grew closer to your Mother and to be honest believed I would still be there now if it wasn’t for this god forsaken place. The rumour of Earths demise did the Voxian people a favour as bad as that sounds, if Fantacia had not left Earth we would not be having this conversation right now.” Drakos said.
“So when will we be going home?” Orion asked.
“Very soon, we just have to be a little patient with your Mother.” Drakos said to Orion.
“So tell me, what it’s like on Vox?” Orion asked.
Drakos smiled putting down his newspaper; Orion could see he was in for another long story.
“Capalia is wonderful; the mountains are like the Swiss Alps on Earth, the head warrior of the mountains is a great leader of men, a giant even by your standards” Drakos laughed as a picture of his friend came to mind “He has three sons around your age, I am sure you will all be great friends.
Orion acknowledged his father with a small nod.
“The Capalian city is one of the busiest places I have ever seen, with line upon line of high rise buildings, shopping malls to die for, but not literally, it also has its own head warrior, he is very calm and intelligent, he has a beautiful daughter Azaya, I don’t want to tell you too much, I want you to see everything for yourself.” said Drakos.
“Tell me about my family on Vox, who was my biological Father, why did Mother leave him?” asked Orion.
“His name was Saul, he was an evil man, he was violent and disliked by the other warriors of the mountains, Fantacia was quite the rebel in her youth, so she went against her Father Rexus’s wishes and tried to show people that Saul was not as bad as they believed. It was unfortunate that in the last fight to destroy Belial a lot of casualties occurred, unfortunately Saul had been one of them, Saul and Bethadora had been plotting with the enemies of Kathos, your Great Grandfather the King. Fantacia’s Brother Wrai became a casualty of this war, killed by your Father Saul.”
“So that’s why she never talks about him, what a complete bastard!” Orion said looking a little angry now; with a momentary flash of metallic black on his face.
“Wrai had been Fantacia’s closest friend as well as her Brother; she blamed herself for his death because she had been infatuated with Saul.”
“So what happened next?” Orion said showing no empathy.
Drakos bowed his head he then continued his story.
“After the death of Saul, Fantacia wished to leave the memories behind along with Saul’s death; he had been caught in the crossfire of Kathos and Belial. It was a tragedy that was welcomed if you understand my meaning, he could not come back to our people, they would never trust him again, but we could not let him free, so he could fight on the side of our enemy either.”
“So you would have killed him anyway?” Orion asked.
“Yes, I am afraid so Son.” Drakos got up from his seat, giving Orion a pat on the shoulder.
Orion was amazed at what he had been told, he felt like it was a story that someone had made up, he was asleep dreaming about it, the thing was he knew he was awake.
“This could be a long day.” Drakos grumbled looking upstairs.
Drakos turned to Orion and said “Do you think your Mother is up to coming down yet? She may have nipped out after her shower; I just don’t want to disturb her not unless I have to.”
“Why would you have to?” Orion asked him.
“Mmh…Well…because she has visitors coming, they are probably already here or close by, I can’t communicate with their ship right now. That could be the atmosphere or that they have blocked the ships signals so they are not discovered here.” Drakos said.
Orion smiled at his father, he was happy to know that he could at last be a part of a family that loved him and wanted to be around him, so he no longer felt an outcast.
He knew that this was what appeared to be the greatest day of his life, finally fitting in, not being one of the giants amongst the people he had met on Earth.
“So...what are you going to do about Mother?” he asked.
“I need to talk to her-today-now if it’s possible. I am going to put on the kettle and make her a cup of tea, then hope she wants to know more. She will be shocked if she sees her family before being forewarned first, it may be too much for her.” Drakos said.
Orion agreed “I think it might be a good idea if I make myself scarce then.”
Drakos nodded and went off to put the kettle on, meanwhile Fantacia had went downstairs and entered the front room.
Orion left the house calling his dog that instantly got up and followed.
Fantacia sat down on her sofa “So tell me more about my family and why I have no memory of them?” she said.
She flicked the channels over on the television, not really watching anything.
Drakos walked over to Fantacia, taking the remote from her, he flicked off the television and put the remote back down on the arm of her chair, then he retold the story but with a lot more detail, in a much gentler way while Fantacia sat and listened.
He began to worry, she still didn’t seem to be remembering her life on Vox, the way the Voxians had believed she would.
“Yes, Saul was a dreadful individual! He betrayed the family and with his lies helped the successful assassination of Wrai. He gave false information to our warriors who were in battle against the enemies; changing sides they then fought beside Belial and left your Brother defenceless and alone. Wrai was making his way across country trying to get over the Northern borders, no one believed him to be in any danger, he travelled quickly using his gift of speed, but was ambushed before he got out of the forests, for some reason you seemed to believe that because you had gone against your Father’s wishes and been with Saul, it was your fault that Wrai had died.”
“My poor brave Brother” Fantacia said looking dazed, but it looked like she recovered some of her memory, she looked again at Drakos for more.
“Wrai was ambushed by forty of Belial’s best warriors, he didn’t stand a chance.” Drakos said.
Fantacia looked blankly again at what her partner had just told her, she didn’t quite understand why she did not remember this at all, it must have been so traumatic that she had obviously repressed this memory to keep sane.
“So what happened next Drakos? You must go on, I am fine honestly!” She said.
“Saul was discovered, Kathos and Comet had realised a little too late, but had given chase, they found the bastard before he could cross the borders, Belial stepped in and attacked Kathos. Comet found Saul spying from behind the trees in the forest, so he took out his sword and cut off his head, then burned him; his head was also thrown into the fire so that he could never double cross anyone again.” Drakos paused looking at Fantacia’s puzzled face. “I should perhaps mention that if our heads survive an attack we can grow our own bodies back, although they may be weak for some time afterwards.”
“That is just unreal! You have got to be joking Drakos? You are aren’t you?”
Drakos didn’t answer; he just lifted his eyebrow and smiled.
Fantacia shook her head and left that subject for a while.
“Surely you can’t be saying I blamed myself for Wrai’s death, this was not my fault?” she said.
“No it wasn’t, Kathos believed that you were so grief stricken that you could not live on Vox and certainly could not cope with what had happened to your Brother. So, you were put on another planet and allowed to have your memories erased, you wanted to be with your children on Earth and allowed to have time away.”
“I asked for this? How, I mean how did he take away my memories? ” Fantacia asked surprised.
“He is a supreme being, so it was as simple to him as clicking his fingers. Kathos believed you would never get over the betrayal of Saul while you lived on Vox, he gave you a farewell kiss, you said goodbye to your beloved family, Rexus, your Father was devastated, but believed you would be back soon, your Mother Genesis was distraught, first losing her Son and you leaving with her only Grandchildren, she thought life would never be the same, but she clung onto the thought that you would soon return.” said Drakos.
“So we now have consequences from living as Humans? I had always wondered why I could not read my own future or the children’s. What will happen with Emmina, she is half human? Will she be okay? They will be coming with us?” Fantacia said as she panicked at the thought of her daughter and grand-daughter being left behind on Titan.
“Yes they will be coming and yes that is why you could only pick up events that happen in the immediate future the rest had been wiped out.” Drakos said.
“What does Orion think of all this?” she said.
“I am happy about this Mother; I only wish you could remember more.” Orion said as he stepped back into the room with Shadow, who lay down on the carpeted floor.
The Voxians teleported with a smaller shuttle into the warehouse building behind Fantacia’s house, they sent a message to Drakos of their arrival, they did not want to jump in before it was time, expressing the need for this matter to come to a conclusion.
Drakos had left the house to greet his family, leaving Orion and his mother to talk in the house, Drakos had not told Fantacia that her family had arrived.
“Comet” Drakos called as he got close to the building, the Voxians all stood outside.
Safire stood in the doorway, she was curvy with dark, almost black hair, she stood about 6 foot tall, her elegant figure just made her all the more attractive, like a catwalk model. To look at her and her partner they were both something to behold, their children would have been out of this world, but they chose not to have any. Safire wore a pair of black trousers with a white blouse, she liked looking smart, her coat was red with a strange swirl of black patterning, her makeup was subtle, her face looked almost natural, unblemished with cherry red lips, seductive, like Fantacia.
Kathos smiled at his friend “It’s so good to see you Drakos.” He held out his hand grabbing Drakos, then pulled him in closer for a manly hug.
“Your Majesty!” Drakos tried to bow but Kathos shook his head.
“No my friend, we will have none of that. You have taken care of my family for me and I am truly grateful.”
Kathos unlike the others stood over 7 feet tall, he had a light around him and a very pale complexion, his strawberry blonde hair was just below his shoulders, he never tied it back, it always looked shiny and healthy. His clothes were similar to Comet, he wore black stone wash jeans, he had a t-shirt in yellow which didn’t seem to clash, coloured almost like a banana milkshake, he wore a long black leather coat, he wore rockers boots on his feet which he picked up on one of his many visits to Earth. Kathos had said that rocker platform boots were the first sign of Human intelligence as well as their sense of style. The Voxians had walked the Earth since the beginning of the planets life and they were an advanced race.
Ghost had been living in a place nearby so it took only minutes for her to arrive at Fantacia’s house, stepping inside the front door she could already sense the tension.
“So you finally remembered something then?” She asked Fantacia.
“Yes I do, but nothing has come of it Ghost, I don’t understand?”
“Perhaps you will need to see it to believe it?” Ghost said.
“Yes, perhaps we will need to see Kathos and ask.” she answered.
Fantacia looked shocked at this, could it be she had some kind of implant then and that is why she had no memories still?
“But what will become of the family I have on Earth?” Fantacia looked a little worried.
Drakos interrupted their conversation as he entered the room and took her hand.
“Fantacia you do not have a chip in your head, the memories are there, they have just been put into the back of your mind. The family you had on Earth were not ideal, but they were there for you.” Drakos paused for a while giving her a chance to take in what he was saying “They were very self absorbed if you ask me, but they are not something you need to worry yourself with any longer. Kathos did not want you to believe you were alone on Earth. I need to tell you that your real family are here; when you are ready they are waiting for you. Your Sister, Grandfather and Comet, your brother-in-law, but they are not going to pressure you, they want you to be happy to see them.” he said.
“I want to meet them, when do I get my first blood sandwich?” Orion said a little too eagerly.
“All in good time.” Drakos said.
“I would like Sky and Emmina here please.” Fantacia said feeling a little unsure.
“We will fetch them.” Drakos said.
Drakos and Orion left the house, got into the jeep and drove away. Fantacia needed time to breathe, she looked at Ghost and they stood in silence for a few minutes.
“I think I am beginning to remember.” Fantacia said.
As Ghost turned, she saw something new about her friend which thrilled her, a black tinted skin, a bulge appearing above her eyes and her cheeks, as Fantacia opened her mouth there were two sets of gleaming fangs, shining white.
Fantacia had realised that she was Voxian; she had just gone into what was known as Voxian war mode.
As she turned, Ghost smiled at her “yes I believe you do remember.” She said.
Drakos arrived with Sky and Emmina, they had been filled in with all the information before she arrived, she was happy, like Orion she had been glad that her height had been explained, the idea she had been alien pleased her as much as her brother.
“So Mother in answer to your questions, yes of course we are coming with you and yes I am happy that the Humans from Earth are still there, but are nothing to do with us really!”
Fantacia smiled, Sky could always say the right thing to her when she was unsure of her future.
“So tell me, what now?” Fantacia asked Drakos.
“Now if we are all present and correct, it’s time for you to meet and greet some of your family.”
Drakos signalled for them to follow him, they had been nervous about the meeting, but happy to have questions answered and Fantacia wanted to see if all her memories would return when she saw them.
“Now Fantacia, your Mother and Father are not here, they felt it better for a small amount of people to be here at first, if you are happy, then we plan to leave here immediately, we will take you home, our house has been kept clean and perfect for all this time for your return.” Drakos said.
“This is cool.” Orion was so excited.
“You think this is cool? How do you feel about being Royalty?” Drakos said.
“WHAT?” Orion staggered, while Sky began laughing seeing a funny side to being a Duchess or whatever they were going to tell her she was.
Orion had a sudden thought.
“My motorbike!” Orion picked up the keys to his 125cc, “I am not leaving it here, it’s my first bike.”
“It’s okay we can take it, we can teleport solid matter like metals to our shuttle, it would be better to teleport, the co-ordinates would compute more precisely, but I don’t think you will ever use it on Vox, it’s...what shall I say...slow!” Drakos said.
“I’ll use it.” Orion smiled. “Even if it is just to get me from A to B.”
Kathos prepared to see his granddaughter for the first time in many years; he was excited as well as relieved that this would be over and his family would be together again.
Safire had missed her sister and spent many days in Fantacia’s house on Vox, keeping it clean and taking care of her garden, the house was on large lands owned by the family, this was called ‘Manor Estate’. All of Fantacia’s family lived on it, it was huge.
The biggest house was the Manor, Kathos and Ledawna lived in it and then Fantacia’s house came a close second with an extension built to the side like a giant conservatory which was Orion’s.
It was time.
Drakos stepped out of the house on Titan and Kathos, Comet and Safire stepped out of the warehouse building which was just across the street, as they walked towards their family, you could see Fantacia begin to remember everything, like a computer running through a new programme.
Ghost panicked and asked quietly “So how do we calm a pissed off Voxian, what if Fantacia isn’t that happy to meet them all again?”
“Oh, she will be!” Drakos said.
Kathos approached as Fantacia suddenly took on her new look, she had a black metallic tint on her face, her fangs glinting brightly in the false daylight, she was in Voxian war mode, but not due to anger, she could control it, but just didn’t want to, her family looked at her with the same black tinted faces, she was the same, Fantacia was not the outcast anymore.
“You have to be strong my Voxian princess!” Kathos said as he approached Ghost.
Ghost looked on as if star struck, Kathos passed her and she bowed in respect of the giant man.
Kathos stood glowing as he walked, while Comet and Safire followed slightly behind him, his presence was humbling, Drakos and Orion stood looking on at Ghost and Fantacia, Sky was picking up Emmina who began to cling on to her in fear of all the giant people. She may be used to Orion but these were as big if not bigger than her Uncle Orion so she found herself surrounded by giants.
Then something they were not expecting happened.
Fantacia began running with her arms wide open towards her grandfather, sister and brother-in-law, as she did her face returned to normal, she smiled happily as she ran.
“It’s okay. I remember now!” as she picked up speed to Voxian levels, like she had been put on fast forward.
“Fantacia we are so pleased to see you. You are coming home aren’t you?” Kathos put his arms out and caught her.
“Yes, Grandfather of course.” she said.
“Safire, I am so happy you’re here, but where are Mother and Father? Could they not come with you?” Fantacia asked.
Safire smiled at her sister and grabbed her from Kathos, hugging her for a while, “Oh my Sister I have missed you so much. Mother and Father stayed on Vox they believed as we all did that you would not remember us after all this time; they could not take the heartache. If you did not know them straight away, they would consider you as lost forever; they do await your return with great anticipation.” Safire spoke with excitement.
“I wish I had never left now, it would have been better to grieve at home.” Fantacia said.
Kathos grabbed her hand “It doesn’t matter, you are here now.”
The family went back to the house they needed to discuss everything that had happened to Fantacia and her family, all that had been happening with Belial since she had been absent, then how much they had needed to have contact with them but knew she didn’t have a clue who they were.
“So does that mean everyone that is tall on Earth is Voxian?” Orion asked, going off subject.
“No! But most are.” Comet replied.
“So, what about my friend Chris?” Orion said.
“Yes his real name is Raylin he is one of your Father’s warriors, based in the Capalian Mountains along with Raidar.” Comet said. “Drakos is Raidars first officer!”
Fantacia began to smile, “So how is our Warrior leader?”
“Why don’t we go back to Vox, then you my darling can ask him yourself?” Comet said.
“But I want to know more about my people.” Orion said.
Kathos patted his grandson on the shoulder “It takes 12 hours to Vox from here Orion, believe me when I say that it will give us plenty of time to answer some of your questions, it will be better when you get onto your own planet, you can see and ask as much as you like.”
“You wait until you see your house.” Safire said as they all walked out of the hotel.
Orion whistled loudly and Shadow came running, his beautiful shining black coat and his big paws padding through the house on Titan for the last time.
Kathos called him “Shadow, my old friend you look well.”
Orion looked on in amazement, that dog hated every stranger who lived, Shadow approached Kathos and sat next to him, he lay on his back showing his belly wagging his tail as Kathos rubbed him like he had owned him, himself.
“Wow, how did you do that? Shadow has never allowed strangers close to him before.” Orion asked his great grandfather.
Kathos smiled but said nothing to him, as he lay on the floor with the dog and hugged into the dog’s body stroking him; it was as if they were talking without actually vocally speaking, that they both had great respect and understanding for one another.
“Shadow is not what you think he is Orion, he is a Voxian wild wolf, he just looks very similar to the breed of German Shepherd on Earth, when he gets home you will see what we mean.” Kathos said smiling.
“Kathos allowed Shadow to go with Drakos to help guard and protect his family and he has done a very good job for us.” Comet explained.
Safire looked on at Orion, her nephew was a baby when he left Vox, she knew he would have absolutely no memory of his place of birth, therefore the Voxian family would be getting asked a lot of questions from Sky as well.
“So, how many wolves do we have on Vox?” Orion asked her.
“We have many on Vox and they live in our forests and tend to hunt with us, Shadow is rare though. He was the first pure black wolf we had ever seen, his Mother was a silver wolf and his Father a reddish colour, he had been abandoned to die on the borders edge, along with his underfed family, then Drakos found him and the others and rescued them all. Kathos picked Shadow out of the litter when he was a puppy for you and tamed him, by 10 weeks old he was no longer wild so Kathos gave Shadow to Drakos to take back to Earth and be given to you all as a gift.” She said.
Orion called his dog, Shadow immediately got onto his feet, happily running back to his master.
“You’re a Voxian then?” Orion said “So that’s why you are such a bastard!”
The others laughed at Orion’s comment and began to pick up any luggage or equipment they had discussed taking with them, including Orion’s motorbike.
Orion was impressed when he walked into the warehouse and saw the Voxian shuttle, especially as the design was similar to one of his own. As they all stepped onto the ship he turned for one last look at the place he had grown to hate.
“Good riddance to Titan;” he said and walked in through the ships door.
To be honest Fantacia felt the same, she had not been here long but it was like a metal Hell to her, no blue sky and worse, no fresh air.
They all stepped into the shuttle and onto its bridge, Safire pressed the silver transporter which was around her wrist, it looked like a watch with a big digital face, then they all teleported outside the domes and drove the shuttle into the waiting spaceship which was still on standby outside Titan’s domes.
Comet carefully drove the shuttle back on board and into the docking bay closing the ships doors behind them, leaving the atmosphere of Titan outside.
“What about my hamsters and my guinea pig mommy, I can’t leave them behind, they’ll die.” Emmina grabbed onto Sky’s hand.
Kathos became the doting grandfather “it’s okay Em, we will go and fetch them for you now, it will take us seconds, tell Comet where they are and he will teleport them.”
“Thank you Grandfather” Emmina hugged into him.
The ship stayed where it was as the ships locater found the animals in seconds, Emmina watched with fascination as her great uncle plotted in co-ordinates and the animal’s teleported onto the ship, even better still in their cages.
“It’s okay, don’t worry. You’re on a space ship!” Emmina put her hand in the guinea pigs cage and stroked him gently.
“This is going to be very cool you know Emmina, we do not have animals like this on Vox, they will be very rare.” Comet said. “They will love their new home, it’s much better than here...there is fresh air for one thing.”
Emmina smiled at Comet picked up her hamster cage putting it somewhere where it wouldn’t slide backwards and forwards.
“Okay. Is there anymore?” Safire enquired.
“Yes, there is something else living in the house, actually 3 or 4 things upstairs” Comet scanned again, “definitely something quite big, Human size if not bigger!”
“These are not more animals, they are Voxian signatures Comet.” Safire said.
“It looks like there are other Voxians in there!” Safire turned off the scanner and looked at Kathos “What now?” she asked him.
Kathos thought for a moment and looked at Fantacia and Comet.
“It’s Beth.” Fantacia said “She has Raitharn warriors with her.”
“In my home, I can’t believe it, what a bitch!” Sky stood up ready to go back.
“We should leave her.” Safire said “Is there anything in there that is valuable to you? Please do keep remembering that you do not live there anymore and you have your own house on Vox, the usual things like TV’s are there already.”
“No not really, I haven’t really had time to collect anything that is of value to us, after all even photo’s here you don’t really want to keep. I can’t see the school photo of Emmina being of much value to her, because she absolutely hates going to school, it’s full of snobby bullies.” Sky said.
The three Voxians who arrived on Titan were about to leave with the rest of their missing family, Kathos did not want to contact Rexus, he wanted to see the faces of Fantacia’s family as they stepped off the ship with them.
“Okay hold onto your hats.” Safire said as she pulled the handle in front of her, the ship made hardly any noise as it lifted from Titan’s surface.
“Okay, last look at your Titan Hell.” Safire smiled at Fantacia, the look on her sisters face was wonderful, she was so happy to be going home to Vox.
By the look on the rest of her family’s faces they too were relieved and happy to see the back of Titan.
Chapter 6
The journey was long, 12 hours seemed like a lifetime to Sky, even though it wasn’t as bad as the journey to Titan, the four seemed a little fatigued. Sky hated the idea of Beth and her men being inside her house on Titan, she found this intrusive and because she did nothing, the thought made her blood boil.
Fantacia could see her daughter’s concern.
“It’s okay Sky, don’t think about it, remember you will not have to go back there again, it was never much of a home, your place is not on Titan, it is on Vox, I am sure everything there will be exactly the way you want it, if not straight away, within weeks of you living there.” Fantacia said with a smile.
Sky did not live on Titan anymore, but it seemed like Beth’s intrusion had corrupted the memories she had, even if they were not that wonderful.
Emmina was completely oblivious to her mother’s stress, happy playing the learning game with her grandfather Kathos, he was teaching her how to levitate, she was happily copying him and no one seemed to be amazed that she could do this, all except for Orion and Sky, but they got used to the idea quite quickly, they were alien so anything could be possible.
Kathos laughed loudly as she wobbled from side to side at first, Emmina then tried to gain balance, which after a few more attempts she did easily.”Hey Sky, your Daughter is a fast learner look at this.” Kathos said.
Sky just looked on staring blankly, still in another world.
Orion, he was with Comet and they were both discussing the structure of the ship and the metal it had been made of. It was something that he had never seen before and was intrigued to know that this metal was virtually indestructible. The metal was Voxian; the only thing that could damage it was something made of the same materials.
“So what gives it the mercury look then?” Orion asked.
“Well Orion” said Comet “It’s very similar to mercury, you can turn it into a solid or a liquid form, it can be used to build almost anything it is extremely versatile. Even in battle, enemies believe us to be an easy target, they fire upon these vessels thinking the bullets will go straight through hitting whoever is inside, but they don’t, they just bounce off it. It is quite amusing when you see the shock on their faces as the bullets they have just fired ricochet off the side of the ship.”
Orion was impressed; he sat next to Comet contented as he took in all the new information.
Fantacia was sitting with Sky and Safire joined them.
“Don’t you need to fly the ship?” Sky asked.
“Oh no, it knows the way home, believe me” said Safire.
Safire then looked at her sister; she looked the same now as when she left. Her time on Earth had not aged her, she still looked in her mid thirties which was something that pleased her and Fantacia looked exquisite.
Voxians do not age unless under considerable pressure, they grow quickly as children going through puberty like Humans, but then once this is reached, the aging process appears to slow down considerably.
Living on Earth would have caused stress for Fantacia, but the warrior Princess had taken it well, which was the reason why Kathos had taken away her memories of Vox; the less she remembered the better for her family and her stress levels.
“So tell me what my home is like on Vox?” Sky asked trying to stop thinking about the house on Titan.
“It’s lovely; actually I have photos of it. Would you like to see?” said Safire.
“Yes please!” Sky felt excited; Titan was fading fast from her thoughts.
“You may be a little shocked when you see this, we don’t have small houses, they are all quite substantial in size.” said Safire.
Safire then opened a small notebook computer and began pressing buttons; she was looking through the photographs on there. “Ah…here we are.” She passed the computer to Sky “Press the down button for more; I will explain to you what house belongs to who as we go through them.”
“Okay!” said Sky
Sky scanned the first picture, the house was quite modern, the front garden had gates and grass and a lot of playing space, on the side was a swing, slide and a big play house for Emmina. The outside décor was black with white beams, the theme remained the same on the inside and she loved it. She was a big fan of Stratford in the UK on Earth; she spent a lot of time there with friends and family.
Then she began to scroll down the pictures of empty rooms. The downstairs hallway was long and thin; this led her to the stairway with thick white painted banisters.
“Okay if you press the red button on the side you will find a list of décor; you can change your house virtually to how you want it, choosing furniture as you go along. When we get to Vox it will be as you have virtually chosen it to be, then any things you don’t like, can be changed for the things that you do, perhaps some shopping would be in order.” Safire smiled at her niece.
“What? So how do we pay for this?” asked Sky.
Fantacia stepped in “We don’t have money on Vox; our society works only to benefit one another, that means we have no complications or greedy people making more off the backs of those who are less skilled like on Earth, we are all skilled here as you will soon see.”
Sky looked confused, she couldn’t believe that this world had no money, that she could just ask for something and get it.
“We have a system, you are credited the items with a card, but the card has no limit, we have no need for this, our people build and replace the items as they are taken from storage, we can them produce more goods. You will receive your card when you get home.” Safire said.
Sky looked blankly at Safire; she couldn’t believe that this was true, that these people were so advanced they didn’t have the need for money.
“So what motivates the Voxian people to work?” Sky asked.
“If the people do not make the products, they can’t have them. Although we do have some specialised items made by very skilled inventors, most of the things are produced to last and can be modernised. This system works for us; we are happy and peaceful with our race and suffer no real greed, having material things because someone has worked hard creating for you is a much nicer feeling, than struggling trying to make a living and being paid too little for it.” Safire said.
“So when I get there will I have a job?” asked Sky.
“Oh yes of course you will. It will more than likely be with animals, learning and speaking their languages. When making allies for the battle to come, we will need someone with the right learning skills and background. Animals always know when you care for them.” Safire said.
Fantacia was looking forward to getting back to her job, she is the leader of the seventh faction mountain warriors and helped train the females, she had not been able to train for years, she told herself she was too stiff and out of shape for any sort of training, so knew she would have to get her rhythm back and very quickly, which would be a hard slog.
“What’s my job?” Orion said he had stopped talking to Comet and was now listening to them; he went over to the others.
“Warrior!” Kathos said as Emmina lost concentration, he jumped forward and caught her as she fell from the air.
Emmina laughed, then ran from her grandfather’s arms back to her mother, she was happy to be with these new people, feeling loved more than she had experienced in the world before.
“What else can you tell us about Vox and our people, the world sounds like a paradise?” Sky said.
“It is really compared to some I am sure” said Comet “like all species in the Universe we have our problems. For instance we have Beth; she turned to Belial a long time ago and has been his ally for many years. She took over the Raitharns and gave the Raitharn people more than they wished for. The land is running out of things as Raithar turned barren, because she has allowed the people there to be lazy. She has exiled the powers of the people who live there in honour of her love for Belial; in the hope she will win favour with him by making him the only power able to rule her people. Kathos has tried and failed many times to capture Belial, because of the book, as soon as he is sent back to Hell, its keeper reads from it and summons him again.”
Comet was angry as he told of the way the Raitharns also had a perfect world to live in, but due to Beth they lived in misery, pledging their powers to her meant that they could not escape from their Hell, even if they wished to. The deer had stopped running there as the forests were cut down, so they had to hunt smaller creatures that had been left on their very small amount of forest land or eat the food that she provided for them.
“Understand that under Kathos’s rule there is no poverty, he feels he is responsible for the people in Raithar as well” said Safire.
Holding Comet’s hand she then spoke gently to him through her telekinetic powers
“Calm, we have to keep control, because it is not dignified for us to feel angry.” she said.
“That’s crap, couldn’t anything be done for these people when Belial was captured?” said Orion.
“No, we could not liberate them fast enough, as soon as Belial was in Hell, the evil incantations would be performed again by Beth, he was back on Vox in minutes.” Comet said.
Safire could sense the tension so got up from her seat by Fantacia.
“Anyone in need of refreshments?” she asked.
“Unless there is some serious cheese on toast on this ship; I may have to go hungry. I don’t believe my body would take blood or meat until I introduce it all very slowly.” Orion’s said his stomach growled and he rubbed it.
“Ha-ha Orion, we have all sorts of food here, cheese on toast though, well you may have to help us with this as it’s not usually in our dietary requirements.” said Safire.
Orion went with his Aunt, he was proud of who he was and still totally ecstatic to be non-Human. Going to his home planet would be the icing on the cake for him. He knew that he wasn’t quite right on Earth and even more out of sorts on Titan.
“So how long have we got left now before we reach our home planet?” Orion asked.
“It will be about 5 hours before we get to our nebula.” said Kathos “I will open the shields, we have no fear of approaching our planet, unlike Earth our Sun is on the opposite side of the galaxy, we are quite a distance from it, this does not mean we live on a frozen planet, I will show you when we get close enough to see.” Kathos said smiling at his family.
Orion continued following his aunt towards the kitchen area speaking to her as they went.
“Where were we, ah yes cheese on toast.” Orion laughed.
The two went off without coming back to speak again, they were gone for a short while. Then when they returned, there was Voxian deer blood for Drakos, Fantacia and the others but Sky opted for noodles with Emmina and well we all know what Orion had ‘Cheese on toast’.
The chatting continued and time passed very quickly the Mythus nebula came into view, the Voxians wanted to show off the planet to Sky, Emmina and Orion.
The nebula looked beautiful; its colours of green and blue all intertwined with a bright red centre looking like a giant eye in the star encrusted Universe, as they sped through there were three enormous planets that came into sight.
Kathos smiled and then began to speak.
“The planet to your left is Vox” Kathos said.
As they came closer to the view screen, this planet looked like Earth; it was a giant ball of blue water, but instead of having many islands on it there were just two, one larger than the other.
“Look closely, you will see that there are three moons around Vox, two inactive, but valuable to our solar system, but this one is volcanic” Kathos pointed at the massive yellow and orange moon which stood out due to its brightness, it could easily be mistaken as our sun, it shines so brightly “it gives our planet daylight, but also this moon provides our planet with power for heat and energy. Its heat can be felt even now as the ship enters the nebula’s atmosphere”
Kathos looked at the interest on the faces of his new family members.
“If you look into the far distance at the bright light just over there” Kathos pointed to a shining white orb in the blackness “that is our actual sun, it has very little effect on our planet, but it does send the occasional weather burst to us.”
Orion smiled and looked out at the space at his new planet, his love for the solar system being fed with new information.
Kathos pointed south, to another planet that seemed to be covered in a mass of white gas.
“The next planet is called Isus, it shares one of our inactive moons, but has some contact with this nebula’s sun, so although it spends time in darkness due to that shadowing planet next to it,” Kathos pointed to the largest of the planets, the third in the nebula “it does get about five hours daylight in Spring and four in the Winter, but a little longer in the Summer, it can vary maybe six or seven hours.”
Sky and Emmina said nothing just took in the view.
“Do we have any sort of population on Isus Grandfather?” Orion asked.
“Yes, I will explain all this once we have landed. They are not a bad race, but we try to keep our involvement with any species restricted.” Kathos said.
Kathos stared at the viewer for a while and then started to talk again.
“And now for the last planet, this one has its own moon like the Earth, however, it is of some interest to us, Reptilia, the hottest in our nebula is closest to our sun.”
“So does this mean the sun determines the weather on this nebula?” Sky asked.
“Yes it does, it gives us much cooler weather, Reptilia however we believe is covered in a type of rain forest, being closer to the Sun means the weather there is tropical, but as we have never disturbed the peacefulness of the planet, we cannot actually say this for sure.” Kathos said.
"Who lives there?" Orion asked.
"Reptilians, these are not creatures that we have had any contact with in the past, but what we do know is that their DNA originates from Earth before the Humans evolved there. We believe that like all species in new environments they have evolved on Reptilia and may look a little different now." Comet said looking at Sky.
"So what you are trying to say is that they’re Dinosaurs!" Sky said.
“Well in a way... I suppose they could be called that... although they are very different from what I have seen in the books on Earth.” Comet said.
“I know this seems a little frightening right now, but I will need you to learn the Reptilian culture and language. We will need good allies and I believe that they will be an advantage to our warriors.” Kathos said to Sky. “So what can you tell us from your knowledge of these creatures on the Earth? Will they make good allies?"
"I think it will be a case of wait and see Grandfather.” Sky said “The Dinosaurs of Earth lived amongst each other; there were a lot of different species. Some enjoyed eating the greenery, while the others were fighting and eating one another. If I am not mistaken it was a meteor which triggered an ice age that wiped out this species.”
Sky stopped talking for just a second as Emmina climbed off her lap, Safire took Emmina and played with the pets that had been teleported on board earlier, she was getting a little fidgety with all the boring adult conversation.
“Although this does not mean that this version of the species are fighting or eating one another now.” Sky said.
“But how did the creatures evolve on this new planet and why? You can't tell me that they just appeared here." Orion asked.
“They had been taken by one of my Brothers, who had witnessed the beginning of the creature’s extinction.” Kathos said “The rest is unknown...”
All of the new information about the evolved Dinosaurs was interesting, they knew that any development of a relationship with another species would be an important aspect of their life and could be the turning point for them in a battle situation.
"We must be able to negotiate with other species even if they remain neutral in this war. I need to know that we can at least try to talk to the others and perhaps persuade them to look at what this Demon is and not be taken in by our enemies." Kathos said.
“I am sure we can work out a way to do this.” Sky replied.
Kathos was now sitting at the navigation computer, pressing the keyboard that produced the ships landing co-ordinates on the display unit.
Comet and Safire took their position at their own computer posts on the ship, which was rapidly approaching Vox.
"Okay, no need to buckle up, our ships have very smooth landing gear, the most that you will notice is touchdown, which will happen about...now." said Safire who then looked at Fantacia.
There was a very slight bump like a car going over a small pot hole, those who were standing bent their knees slightly to keep steady and that was all, nothing else, the ship turned into the hanger and came to a halt.
Fantacia looked excitedly at the rest of her family, she grabbed Emmina's hand and then walked them all to the ships door, which slid open and steps appeared from it.
The fresh clean air hit their faces as the family went through the exit, standing at the top of the stairs, the place looked somehow familiar to them all, even to those who had no memory of this beautiful warm planet.
"Oh God, it's just so beautiful." Fantacia smiled breathing in the fresh air "Home, I can’t believe it, I am actually back home."
As the family began to go down the steps, they understood why Earth had been their mother’s choice as her second home, if they hadn’t known that Vox was a different planet, they would never have been convinced of it now, it was almost the same image as you got stepping off an aeroplane on Earth.
The birds in the sky stood out because of their colours, all displayed brightly they looked just beautiful with bright reds and blues displaying, some even luminous.
Rexus, Genesis and Ledawna waited patiently, standing by the side of the recently arrived ship, excited that their family were here at last; Kathos approached his wife, kissing her lightly on the forehead.
A bright red Limousine waited for them all, the hugs and the tears at the limo’s doorway were over with quite quickly. The family got into the car driving away, a meeting was planned in the main Manor House, the place that Ledawna and Kathos lived.
“Do we have animals like sheep and cows here on Vox?” Emmina asked staring out of the Limo window.
“No not really, they are slow and clumsy, we believe that a lot of red meat isn’t good for us and makes us slower, a bit like sugars and other food groups you experienced on Earth. This is why we have all the powers as we do; you will see that the longer you are on Vox the better you will feel, so you won’t get bad colds here or feel poorly.” said Safire
She then hugged her great Niece. “You are such a beautiful little girl Emmina.”
“So, there are no cows then!” Emmina said.
The family laughed at her, she was just wonderful, they believed her to be the young life they had all needed in the family which had its fill of tragedy, Emmina was the first sign that all was going to turn out okay now, life continues even after others had died.
“Where are we heading?” Sky asked.
“To the Manor to begin with, we all live within walking distance from each other, although if you are all too tired from your journey I am sure we could take you to your homes in the car.” Kathos said.
Kathos sat back letting the new comers take in the planet and the views, they were stunning. There were Snow-capped Mountains that appeared to go on for miles, with small houses sitting on them. With jungles appearing as they looked further over the landscape and then a mass of forests, the people walking to and fro, just getting on with their daily work and living. Kathos was proud to be the King of such a beautiful planet.
Sky then sat up as they passed the forests, in the dense hedges small vole type creatures sat watching as the car drove by, they all seemed to be quite intelligent, she noticed other animals, they looked like rabbits and squirrels were all sat watching with curiosity, Sky was loving it, they were as interested in her as she was in them.
“Oh My God, this is just so perfect!” Sky grabbed her mother’s arm and gave it a squeeze. “They are actually watching us, also none of them seem to be jumping in the road as the car passes, which is just fascinating!” She began to smile, she found this highly amusing.
“You will be pleased to know that all animal information is waiting for you and the new education system is already set up for you at home, like our University you can study animals to Masters Degree if you want to Sky. Emmina has already been enrolled at school; the first car will pick her up Monday which is two days away.” Safire said.
“Do I have to wear a school uniform?” Emmina said looking a little fed up at the thought of school.
“No, school uniform is not important here, learning and playing is.” Safire smiled at her niece.
On Earth and on Titan she found school boring, she didn’t really learn anything very exciting and at eight years old she had a lot of abilities that the children of Earth didn’t.
“So how long do we have before we get home?” Orion asked.
“We are about 15 minutes away from our village now, then there is about another 20 minutes on that time to the Manor House, that is at this very slow cruising speed, it’s on massive grounds.” said Ledawna as she smiled at her grandson. She could see his future in her vision she knew he would be the bringer of great changes to her family, but began to wonder if he realised his own potential.
Chapter 7
The Manor Estate
Through the fields and the trees suddenly a building appeared, the black iron gates to a large Country Estate began to open slowly, the driveway to the main house was in sight, it looked tiny, just in view, this was due to being at the end of a vast winding driveway and was still quite a long distance away.
“Here we are Fantacia, home sweet home.” Kathos smiled.
The look on both Orion and Sky’s faces was a picture of surprise.
“So you live here Grandfather?” Orion asked.
“We all live here; this is the Royal Estate on Vox” Kathos said. “We own just the one Estate, as the land is too valuable to have more, our forest life and animal life are important to our survival, so although we could build more we choose not to.”
Nearly two minutes later the main house grew closer, the cars came to a stop, Fantacia smiled, she was home at last.
“Do we all live in this house?” Sky asked a little confused.
“No, I live here with Ledawna your Grandmother, there are more houses, all of them are dotted around the land” Kathos said. “There’s no us and the people of Vox although we are their King and Queen. You are a Princess here Sky, but you will be greeted as everyone else; we do not need protection because there is shared wealth and happiness. This works well for us and we respect our people, you will make a lot of friends here.”
The family all stepped out of the cars and into the Manor House together, the hall was vast, the large mahogany doors opened from the steps of the building.
A middle aged man stood the other side of the doorway, he wore a traditional suit, he began talking to Kathos as the King stepped through the door, it was about meetings and schedules for everyone the minute the family entered the house.
“Good morning Francis, Is everything alright? How are you this morning?” Ledawna asked.
“Yes your ladyship, all is in order and thank you I am very well.” said Francis.
“This man is one of our most trusted and loyal helpers; Francis is what you would call a personal assistant on Earth, he was trained there when he visited in 1992.” Ledawna explained to Orion and Sky.
After handing meeting schedules to Kathos, Francis vanished into the kitchen area.
As Orion walked into the hall, he glanced around at the black and white checked flooring, then in the centre of the room were stairs with huge wooden banisters that lead around to the bedrooms of the house.
There was room upon room on the top floor, all with the same mahogany doors as the stairway and banisters, with a bright red carpet which looked luxurious running up along the stairs.
The red carpet stood out, it was plush like velvet and had swirling pattern, it reminded Orion and Sky of their house in the UK their front room had something similar.
In a large frame on the stairwell was a photograph with Kathos, Ledawna, Beth, Rellik and Rexus, proud parents and children, the frame was large and golden like those you find in a museum on Earth, the glass slightly smoked giving it all an antique look.
“We must get on now; please will you follow me, I will show you around later, we have a meeting in 20 minutes.” said Safire.
Safire and Fantacia both took the family into a large lounge, it looked like an old ski lodge, white walls with old beams of dark wood across the ceilings, an open fire burning brightly with lamp lights around the walls in plenty, tables and large sofa’s, with comfy chairs, cushions and bean bags scattered in no particular place.
In the middle of this room stood a hand carved coffee table, under that a massive rug of fur, white and fluffy giving the pine flooring a warm and comfortable look, the room seemed to be made for cold nights and cocoa by the fire.
“Who is the meeting with?” Sky asked.
“Now, you are both about to meet the warrior leaders of our planet, Raidar and his Sons will be here and so will Hyedan, they are very important to the protection of Vox.” Kathos smiled.
“We have warriors?” Orion asked looking very impressed.
“We have all sorts, after the meeting we will discuss your ceremonies, these will show you your place here.” said Kathos.
The family sat waiting for the arrival of their guests; the air was filled with excitement which was mainly from the newcomers Sky and Orion, from Fantacia who had forgotten what it was like to be a part of this land.
Hyedan and Elen were the first to arrive with their daughter Azaya.
Orion looked at Azaya, her blond white hair and pale beauty, she was nothing like the girls on Earth he had dated before, but his instant attraction to her was unbelievable, especially to him, maybe not love at first sight as such, but something that had been pretty damn close.
Azaya stood only 6 feet tall, her hair shone in the daylight, this made her pale complexion and blue eyes that stood out, she was slim wearing black jeans, a white t-shirt which had black Celtic patterning, Orion could not help but stare as she stared back.
Orion’s eyes shifted to her mother Elen, she was wearing a long flowing gown, blue in colour and it shimmered in the light, same blue eyes and blonde hair with only a very small hint of grey glistening as her hair touched the light in the room.
Orion’s sight went from the women onto Hyedan, who stood almost as tall as Orion his hair was red, he had a short reddish beard with wisps of grey through it, he wore a cloak like a magician, when it opened it revealed a white silk shirt and grey slack trousers, Orion couldn’t help thinking he looked like one of his old school teachers, under a cloak of blue with Celtic patterning, very old fashioned, but also Hyedan looked very authoritarian.
“This is my Granddaughter Fantacia you may remember her, she left to live on Earth?” Kathos said.
Kathos signalled for Fantacia to stand up and greet Hyedan the city warrior leader, the process of introductions began.
“These are my children, both are Voxian born, Orion my Son and Sky my Daughter.” Fantacia said.
Orion moved forward putting his hand out to greet and shake Hyedan’s hand.
Hyedan stepped back not knowing what to do, placing one hand on his cloak where his sword lay sleeping underneath.
Orion realised his mistake immediately and stepped away, backing off from Hyedan.
“I apologise, it’s an old Earth tradition I have been brought up to follow, it is known as a polite welcome, let me show you.” Orion said.
Hyedan then stepped forward once again putting his hand out, Orion took it and began to shake it firmly.
Hyedan and his family began to laugh.
“This is a very strange welcome indeed my boy” Hyedan’s deep voice bellowed with laughter.
Orion relaxed and just as he felt he was getting comfortable with these people, three new men teleported straight into the middle of the room.
Only these looked more like the missing link!
Neanderthals with Mohawks!
“Must you always be late?” Kathos smiled taking the hand of the older man and shaking it. “This is Raidar!”
Kathos’s face seemed to light up at this man’s presence, like his best friend had just entered the room.
Raidar looked on as his hand was shook in greeting by his King, it was obvious that like Hyedan he had no idea what the handshake was about, but because it was his leader he allowed it.
Orion had never seen a man so large, he was at least 7 feet tall and wider than Orion’s peripheral vision could see around, he was not fat, he was solid, he had short black hair that was shaved on both sides and just lay in one long line in the middle with small curls, a Mohawk.
His cape was black with red stars and with the three moons of Vox on it in golden embroidery, which you may think sounds a bit naff, but believe me it wasn’t. Unlike Hyedan’s aged clothes, Raidar wore combats in a khaki grey green colour, a black t-shirt with a hand holding a flaming torch with the words ‘Blood, Fire, War, Hate’, under the pattern.
His Voxian eyes met with Orion’s and he grabbed Orion’s elbow pulling him forward in greeting.
“You will be an awesome mountain warrior boy,” Raidar began saying loudly “if we are to do battle with the devil Belial, we must first give you power and perform the Voxian ceremony.” He chuckled as the look on Orion’s face became a little obvious, confusion and fear!
“For Goddess’ sake stop scaring him, he is new here.” Kale said as he walked over speaking to his father. “Hello Orion, I am Kale the Son of Raidar, we have been assigned the post of mentor while you are learning the ropes here, this is your other mentor and my younger Brother Halen and we are both very happy to meet you.”
Both men bowed in greeting.
Orion looked at Kale, a tall slim blonde male; his height was over 6 feet, he looked more like Azaya’s brother than Halen’s, but the tell-tale glint in his eyes and the Mohawk gave him the warrior look of his father.
Kale wore blue jeans, a two-toned red and black long sleeved t-shirt, blue trainers, with one of the laces hanging loose on the floor. It was hard to believe that he was anything to do with either Raidar or Halen, because he really did look that different, perhaps he is more like his mother, Orion thought.
Halen on the other hand was the image of his father, not quite as tall, maybe just under 7 feet, with the tell-tale Mohawk in thick brown hair and something in his eyes piercing through his dark complexion gave him the look of his father, like bright beacons of blue light. In the same sort of clothing as Raidar, combats, only his were dark green; his t-shirt was black and said ‘machine fucking head!’ on it.
Orion knew he was going to like this guy, he had the same t-shirt himself from his trip to the Download festival on Earth, he knew that the band were awesome.
Sky was instantly hugged like a long lost friend by all the visitors, it was great, she took an instant liking to everyone, “My kinda music!” she said as she pulled away from Halen “So you’re into rock?”
“It rules!” Halen began playing air guitar making this strange noise.
Sky smiled at him shaking her head.
“Let’s conclude this meeting, everyone has been introduced for now, we can all celebrate or go home if we so wish.” Kathos said.
Kathos sat down with his family and explained what the ceremony was for, Orion and Sky listened content to be a part of it, they began to see the importance of their lives here already and both of them agreed that they wanted to be a part of the Voxian people.
After the meeting Sky was taken to her own house, which was on the right hand side of the Manor House.
Her house, that was a large building, which looked a little like a black and white barn conversion, it had grassed lawns with roses growing around it, she was pleased when she was handed her keys, when she stepped inside with Emmina everything she had asked for on the ship was in place.
Her cupboards were full to the brim with food, which was always a good thing for her, having Emmina who could eat as much as any adult.
Fantacia stepped out of the Manor House and crossed the sandy coloured slabs laid in the yard, from the front of the Manor it still took 10 minutes to walk there.
As she entered, everything was warm and comfortable, a calm welcome feeling returned and memories she thought she had long forgot suddenly began to come flooding back, her love of her house and the gardens surrounding it, just being back home again after all this time suddenly hit her. Fantacia held back her tears as she felt herself fill up with emotion as she picked up the things she had left behind so long ago, photographs, trinkets and a picture that Sky had drawn for her when she was very small.
She looked around at the familiar sight that had been her home before she had dragged herself from it, because of circumstances that she felt, even now, were beyond her control.
Orion began looking around, he could see familiar things that she had on Earth, she may not have remembered consciously, but her subconscious did have some memories that were obvious to him, because she had the same sort of things in her home when he was a child.
“So where is my room?” he asked looking at yet another black and white hall floor and a stairway that was almost identical to the one in the Manor House.
“You don’t have a room here, you have that side of the building, the conservatory, it looks a lot like an annex and it’s just through the French doors there.” she said pointing.
Orion then turned to see what looked like a pool area (at least that was what he thought it was), it had window upon window, a giant conservatory, with lots of light coming in, with a skylight above, then the biggy, as he got closer he could see a large telescope, it was the one from his room at home (on Earth) pointing out into the starry night.
“That lens just aint gonna be strong enough is it?” he turned and smiled at his mother “I need to get myself something with a bit more poke now, telescope wise I mean!”
Fantacia went into the large room; it had everything he could need in it.
“The windows are designed to remain black in the need of privacy” Fantacia said ignoring his remark “look here you have a dial that controls it” she began pressing what looked like a remote control, the windows went lighter and darker.
“Your inventions from Titan and Earth are here, so is your bed and any other familiar things we thought you would need.” she said pointing to a large cupboard space.
“If you want anything else you have a computer system there” Fantacia said pointing to the corner where a desk and computer sat “you understand that you can just go onto the computer program and shop. Even better you may like to see more of the city after your ceremony tomorrow.”Fantacia smiled.
Orion had not had much independence, he just never seemed to have much time to move out of his parents house on Earth and Titan, his University hopes had been dashed for him when he had been chosen as one of the few to move to Titan, he would have got there eventually but it was so much more convenient to stay at home.
“One Voxian alone is powerful; two that can adapt to each other is a very strong enemy” She explained.
The Ceremony
Two days after the meeting; the ceremony would be taking place at midday.
It was a tradition that Voxians went through this in order to gain true status, Fantacia had been explaining that the birthmark they had of a pentagram star on their left hand was actually a way to adapt and infuse powers with one another.
The Voxian species used their pentagrams to adapt, it would light up when their powers were needed, it was more powerful when they were on Vox, but could be used at any time once they had, “graduated” and this pleased Orion and Sky.
‘What would this mean to them?’ They both thought.
The Voxian ceremony of adulthood had to be carried out on or after a Voxian’s 18th birthday, as children they could not use powers because they had to become mature enough to not misuse them first.
It was a little after 10.00 in the morning, the Manor had been buzzing with activity as the Royal Square in the city was decorated with banners, celebrations were prepared, it resembled a Royal Wedding on Earth.
Orion had dressed in a black two piece suit, with a white shirt, no tie, he said he wasn’t going to wear one and was moaning because he had to have his long hair up, much to Sky’s displeasure, she had been dressed in a lilac coloured long gown and her long black hair was platted with lilac ribbon and flowers woven through, she looked beautiful.
“Good luck Sis!” Orion hugged her for the first time in years, he could see she was nervous and just wanted whatever it was to be over, so she could get back to her black tomboy look.
“Thanks, I need luck...What the Hell is this about, am I going to find out I am Queen fool or something?” The two laughed at one another and then carried on getting ready.
“Just want my everyday look back. It takes ages to perfect the scruffy tramp look!” She smiled at her Brother.
Orion could only laugh at her comment.
Fantacia had put on a red dress and was happily painting her face; Earth had given her the habit of putting on make-up, much to her father’s displeasure.
Unlike Earth the disruption of telephones ringing was replaced by telepathy, the way to communicate on this planet, the Voxians could just talk to one another from long distances, no telephones required (Or as Orion would joke, “hearing voices”).
It took over 1 hour from the Manor House to the city; the cars for the family were already arriving in the yard.
“We have got to leave very soon, is everybody ready?” Fantacia called in the yard, the heads began nodding in the different buildings and leaving their houses, all had come together.
The first limousine to pull up outside the Manor was white, this one was for Kathos and Ledawna, then the others followed, all together the cars looked like a giant rainbow, all of them big and all with a Royal Crest on them.
Sky picked pink for her and Emmina because she knew Emmina liked pink, even the inside was pink and there were drinks of pop and nuts and crisps all in the car bar. Kathos had left Emmina a gift, boxed in pink with a big lilac bow around it on the car seat, the label read ‘for our little Granddaughter with love. xxx’. Emmina screeched with delight as she pulled on the bow and opened the package which contained the latest Voxian doll.
“You must thank your Grandfather and Grandmother when we reach the city; that doll is very beautiful.” said Sky.
“I will Mommy, I promise.” Emmina clutched the doll, which had blonde hair that cascaded down in a mass of ringlets and a porcelain face, she wore a pink dress with a lilac sash of ribbon around her waist and Emmina could not stop hugging her.
As the cars filled and the family began the journey to the city, all were talking in excitement, all except Orion and Sky who just looked like they were about to go on trial for a crime they had not committed.
When the cars pulled into the Royal Circle in the Voxian city, Emmina ran to Safire and Comet, the doll waving in the air with pride, they had saved her a seat and had bought her a very nice shiny pink three moons robe with flashes of silver through it, which made it glisten in the daylight.
Orion and Sky walked nervously over to Kathos who had now taken his place at the head of the circle in the large arena, Ledawna had chosen to sit next to her family, but there were another two empty seats each side of Kathos and when Orion and Sky scanned the whole picture there were two seats in the circle, alone and for all to see, Sky just knew they would be for Orion and her.
Looking down from the main circle, they could see a strange pentagram pattern, it looked like a devil’s trap, or something to raise some dead people, but the only writing on it were symbols in English and at each of the five points of the pentagram it said ‘Harmony, Wealth, Grace, Honesty and Protection’ and in the centre it had the three Voxian moons.
“Is this a devil’s trap?” Sky asked Kathos, as she looked at her grandfather a little worried.
“No! What are you saying? Do you believe you are Demonic? Ha-ha! This is our sign of protection and also the sign of our powers, you will understand as the ceremony takes place my darling, please try not to be too agitated, concentrate on what you have inside yourself.” Kathos said putting his hand on his own chest.
Orion took hold of his sister’s hand, then they walked to the seats together in the centre of the lower circle, it was like a gladiator arena, with thousands of people sitting around waiting for a fight.
“Well, it looks like the whole of Vox is here” Orion whispered to Sky as they took their seats noticing that all were watching them in the middle of the lower circle.
As they sat down, the crowd cheered and began stamping and shouting a chant, ‘BLOOD, FIRE, WAR, HATE!’
All the Voxians in the arena changed, their faces became bulged, they had a tint of metallic black in their skins and giant white fangs.
Sky tried her hardest not to freak out, until she turned to Orion and he looked the same.
She jumped to her feet in surprise and caught her own reflection in a window to the side of the arena, which was the same as everyone else’s.
The circle went silent!
Sky laughed loudly and then sat back down, panic over.
“This is friggin’ awesome!” Orion shouted very excited.
Sky decided to go with the flow and soon Orion did the same, the two were shouting and stamping with everyone else, the power of the chant was like magic flowing within them.
The power they felt from it all was out of this world; they felt like they could take on the Universe, their strength seemed undefeatable.
“This is better than an energy drink any day!” Orion said as he began to breath it all in.
“I don’t know how you drank that stuff anyway; it has bull spunk in it.” Sky said as she pulled a screwed up face.
They began to focus again; they noticed that Raidar and Hyedan had both taken their places next to Kathos on the platform at the head of the arena.
All three leaders glowed with Kathos’s Angelic powers covering them.
Kathos’s wings spanned white and large coming through his white robes, then his face glowed with a silver light, he looked like nothing in this world could defeat him.
An all powerful being that could have been described as God-like.
“We ask for the protection from all those on a higher plain, to keep our two newcomers safe from harm.” Kathos said as he began holding his arms up in what could only be described as prayer.
“We ask this of you Galaxia.”
The whole congregation replied by repeating his words. “We ask this of you Galaxia.”
Raidar stood forward “We ask you to guide our warriors onto their true path and enlighten us to their vocation on our blessed planet.”
“We ask this of you Galaxia.”
Again the congregation repeated this.
Then it was Hyedan’s turn “Be their guide, we ask you to grant them strength and honesty, to help develop their skills here, see the beauty of our world, helping only to preserve it, this is our law.”
“We ask this of you Galaxia.”
The congregation repeated.
“All must now close their eyes in prayer, we must thank our Goddess’ for the blessings she has given us, our homes, our world of peace and tranquillity, our ability to protect those who are vulnerable, our love of all creatures. This we give thanks for.” Kathos said and then he paused and the congregation all replied “Thanks be to our Goddess’.”
Orion and Sky had been buzzing with power now for a while, they had tried to focus on the crowd and find Fantacia and Emmina for a little touch of reality.
The glow from the three leaders had also powered up, Orion and Sky as they stood now in the arena looked around the entire crowd everyone glowed with the same light, the leaders included.
As the ceremony seemed to pause, Orion had a vision, he could see stars, he could see himself battling as a warrior in the mountains, his life map revealing his sword of hope and the power surging inside him made him scream out “BLOOD! FIRE! WAR! HATE” But now he had gruffness to his voice which sounded almost like a wolf’s growl, the congregation replied “BLOOD, FIRE, WAR, HATE!”
Sky did not turn to see why he was doing this, because she too had her own visions, walking amongst the animals, through forests and trees, all calling to her and she understood them, she bore no weapons, she had the power to control and communicate to animals from all over the Universe. She felt them all calling to her as she screamed “LOVE! HARMONY! PROCTECTION!”
Again the congregation copied by chanting her exact words loudly back to her as she powered up.
The glow then dimmed, the power hummed to a slight buzz inside Orion’s and Sky’s chest as the ceremony was coming to a close.
The arena went wild with chants and celebrations for their two newcomers, the lost family had finally come home, the Prince and Princess that Vox had been missing for a very long time, was back at last.
Kathos, Hyedan and Raidar came towards them, they smiled proudly.
Kathos touching both Orion and Sky on the shoulders standing in the centre of them both, Hyedan turned to Sky offering a hand and Raidar doing the same to Orion, as the two took their leaders hands the crowds were in uproar, streamers, fireworks and music bellowed from the stands.
“I feel like I could run for miles, I can do anything, walk on water, fly, what is this all about?” Orion asked Raidar.
“You feel this way Orion because you can do all those things, it all comes naturally, they are a part of who you are, as you go on, more will be revealed to you. You are a strong warrior who will only get stronger as you learn.” Raidar said.
The ceremony was over, the Voxian people had begun to leave, now able to mark the occasion with celebrations, the family hurried back to the cars and back to the Manor where they would celebrate.
Sky looked for Emmina, this must have frightened her half out of her wits she thought, but as she spotted her she saw Emmina was peacefully asleep in Comets arms, Comet hugging her in close to his chest.
“Is she okay?” Sky asked smiling.
“Yes, believe it or not she slept through the whole ceremony.” Comet laughed.
“We are talking about the child that while on Earth slept through a 7.9 Earthquake!” Fantacia said as she passed them both and got into her car.
Comet followed Sky back to the pink coloured Limo; he then carefully placed Emmina on to her mother as she sat in the back seat, quietly closing the door of the Limo trying not to disturb the sleeping child.
“Sleep tight our lovely one.” He said as he went back to Safire and the Royal cortege, as they all headed back to the Estate.
Chapter 8
North Vox
The sound of ‘rock music’ played loudly on Beth’s car stereo, as she raced towards the hills in her red convertible, her hair blowing freely in the wind, she smiled, knowing that where she was going, her older brother would be waiting.
Her phone rang.
Beth’s smile left her face as she looked at the name display on her phone. Beth had fear in her eyes.
“Yes my Lord, I am on my way.” She paused as the voice of her master on the other side of the call spoke to her “No, nothing will go wrong, I will definitely persuade Rellik this time, he knows what is good for him, I am sure of this.”
Beth went to talk more to him but as usual the phone went dead, message communicated and that was all.
Explanation
A meeting was called for that night at 7.30 in the Manor House, all who had any knowledge of the Demon would be attending to make plans for Belials capture and putting together this very complicated jigsaw puzzle would be the first thing on the agenda of Kathos and his family.
“My leaders, friends and family, now we have you all here, we must continue our search for the fallen Angel Belial and his book, it is important that both are found quickly.” Kathos said.
He turned and looked at Fantacia.
“We now have our warrior Princess and her children back,” he continued “we must put together a plan to bring back the Humans who have been teleported to Titan, allowing them to live on their own planet if they wish; this is a priority as well.”
Fantacia smiled at her grandfather proudly.
Kathos continued “Those who are still on Earth must be made aware of what has happened, given the choice to join us in battle, the fight to keep their planet safe from this evil Demon and his followers will be as important to them as it is to us.”
Fantacia stood in the crowded room and began to speak.
“Grandfather, I know the location of ‘the Book of Demons’.”
Kathos smiled at his granddaughter and held out his arms.
“This is great news” Kathos said “Have you have been looking for the book while you have been on Earth?”
“I have myself at one point held the book and given it back to the safety of its owner, Phoenix.” Fantacia said.
“Phoenix found the book? “ Kathos starred out thinking for a while, “But...he said nothing.” Kathos appeared somewhat surprised.
“You knew of Phoenix? How did you know him? I believed he was Human.” Fantacia said looking confused.
“No Fantacia, he was one of us, a Voxian” Kathos said taking Fantacia’s hand.
Fantacia’s eyes and eyebrows lifted in surprise, she could not find the words to say.
“Phoenix didn’t take any side when Bethadora left us to join Belial; he stayed out of the fight. When Rellik disappeared, Phoenix headed to Earth; I believed he just wished to stay neutral so he left Vox.”
“Rellik has turned traitor? Is he allied with Beth and Belial?” Fantacia asked.
She was finding this very hard to take in, she looked at the rest of her family; while Orion and Sky were oblivious, the rest of them hung their heads with sadness.
“Belial killed Radonna...” said Comet.
“Oh God tell me this is not true! Why did he do that, she was like Sky, a peace keeper. Radonna would not be a threat to anyone.” Fantacia said fighting back her emotions.
“Anyone except for Rellik, without her he was emotionally destroyed, we all knew this, when Beth came to Capalia to talk, we believed that she had finally seen the light, but instead she had been sent here as a trap.” Comet said.
Comet approached Fantacia and handed her a box of tissues.
Safire frowned and began to comfort her sister.
“Rellik’s powers of thought have been a great loss to us and Beth knew that they would be, she set her trap... part of it was Belial killing Radonna, they knew Rellik would crumble, they would be able to capture him easily, turning him to their side.” Safire said.
“We have not seen or heard from him now for 14 years, it seems obvious that he has been turned evil, I can’t even sense him anymore, either that or he has just given up on his life altogether.” Comet said looking sadly at Fantacia.
She wiped her eyes and the sudden look of anger came across her face.
“No... They could never turn him; he is way too strong a warrior for that” Fantacia said gritting her teeth.
Fantacia began to concentrate with all her minds power, now with her powers back to full strength, she no longer needed tarot cards to harness her powers, her left hand began to glow silver blue and the pentagram star ignited her powers.
“I can’t find him... the mental wall that has been put there is too strong.” Fantacia said struggling with her thoughts “Maybe the two of us can join forces Comet, try together to connect, this may work. Surely if Rellik had just been taken over and became evil he would answer me or maybe try to damage my powers?” Fantacia said looking hopeful.
Safire grabbed her sister’s arm.
“Fantacia STOP!” Safire said realising what Fantacia was trying to do “You can’t put your powers at risk, we have our magical duo again, the powers of both you and Comet would be lost, you know that mind-traps are almost impossible to break, you would both become possessed, what will we do without any outside communications to help us establish Belial’s next move?”
Kathos agreed with Safire, although it hurt him to think his own son was trapped somewhere on the other side of Vox, he had to trust that this would be rectified once they had dealt with Belial and his followers.
As the Manor House started to fill, familiar faces began to appear.
Fantacia was amazed to see that the first to arrive was Raidar (that being because he would be late for his own funeral!) he had a lot to say and looked fired up and ready to go, his two sons Halen and Kale had followed him inside.
Orion’s eyes shifted across the room as a beautiful young woman stepped in through the door, Azaya and her Father walked in, from that point on Orion didn’t really notice anyone else enter or leave, it was like he was enchanted.
Azaya stepped towards him and held her hand out in polite friendship.
“Good evening” She said as she moved towards him “I am Azaya, this is my Father Hyedan. We are both very pleased to meet you again.” She smiled at him and he stood silently shaking her hand continuously, not wanting to let go.
“Orion, I think that belongs to me.” She said smiling after about five minutes.
Orion’s eyebrows rose with surprise as he realised, he pulled his hand away.
“Sorry.” Orion said as he went a nice shade of red.
Fantacia was in the front room, still meeting and greeting, the people spoke of how glad they were that she had returned from Earth.
Fantacia just bowed politely as they spoke of Kathos and Ledawna and their misfortune, grief and the traitor Rellik.
Fantacia made no comment about Rellik, she knew he was no traitor, but had to prove this before she could say anything.
The house was looking very full by 7.45pm and so the doors were closed.
Shadow sat curled up next to Orion, he was busy looking with suspicion and letting out small growls of warning at the new arrivals, that and sneaking in chewing on his nadds while no one looked.
“Steady boy, stay calm.” Orion said, patting his dog, who by now had risen several times, twisted himself around lying down again as if going for his usual nap, but every time someone got up, Shadow’s eyes would open as he watched their every move.
Kathos got upon his feet, his towering body glowing and his wings tucked into his back, the people attending the meeting even after all these years still admired their leader, his beauty, his light, he was after all their Angel King.
“We should begin by asking those who are able to search, to look for ‘the Book of Belial’, I know this will be a big task, but we now have someone who has had the book and survived its Demonic evil, thanks to a dear friend.” Kathos said.
Fantacia smiled “Grandfather I apologise for interrupting, but before you go any further, I need to say something to you in private.” She asked.
Fantacia pulled him over to the side of the meeting lounge.
“I have located the book on Earth, because I was left with a connection to it due to Phoenix being its keeper.” She said “I have got a psychic signal which is connected at all times to the book and know where it is. That’s why I was so confused when Beth asked to find its whereabouts on Titan.”
Fantacia turned away heading back to her seat.
“My psychic bond is very strong, my guide is Phoenix, I believe that’s what makes the book very easy for me to keep track of.”
Kathos walked with her nodding as she spoke.
“It is in the hands of the books unofficial keeper Victoria, who was adopted by Phoenix on Earth, she has become greedy, her satanic powers are weak, she has no idea of the power contained in the book. So she put the book away after several bad attempts at reading it...It has never left the cloth covers it has been bound in for safety. It remains in the loft where she has thrown it, when she moved into her new house; the book is just ignored by her.” said Fantacia.
Kathos let out a loud bellow of laughter; he had been searching for the book for many years, in walked his long lost granddaughter who knew exactly where it was and how to get it. Frustrating in a way, I know, but still the best news he had heard since her return.
Kathos quickly got a team together to bring back the book; Fantacia looked at him in horror as he suggested they went in force, the plan would be better if she just went alone causing as little uproar as possible, so Fantacia began shaking her head.
Kathos stopped talking for a moment.
“So what is your plan? How will we get the book back?” Kathos asked Fantacia.
“It won’t be easy, once we are happy about teleporting to the area in question, it will just be the case of beating Beth to the book, remember once they get the psychic information that we are moving towards Earth again, they will know we are going for the book. We need to make plans and be in and out of Victoria’s loft before Beth can get a fix on where we are, it’s not that I don’t want Victoria put in harm’s way, after all she is nothing but evil and probably one of Belials pets, she is not even the book’s keeper, that remains Phoenix’s property even in death, he died of natural causes and no one found the book on his person or attempted to kill him for it.” Fantacia said.
Kathos looked at his granddaughter and smiled.
“This is good news. This is what you mean by ‘you still have the link and know the books whereabouts’?” Kathos said.
“Yes, Phoenix was a very intelligent man, when you had sent him to find the book, he had done just that, keeping it hidden from everyone who could be tortured by Belial for information, he knew that letting you know he had it would cause a lot of problems, his message would have been intercepted and then the book lost or stolen. So Grandfather any suspicions that he may have been a traitor to your cause would be wrong.” Fantacia put her hand on his shoulder and continued. “Phoenix was nothing but loyal to you and the people of Vox, he gave up his home here to live an Earthly life, even though he missed his family and home on this planet, he stayed there so he could protect the book until you found him again. Linking me to the book meant that if he had died before you located him you would still find the link.” Fantacia said.
“Giving me not just one chance to get the book, but two to retrieve it instead” Kathos said.
“Yes Grandfather, you yourself knew Phoenix well, do you really believe he could betray his King? He had been your friend all his life and his Voxian links had to be severed in order to keep news of the book from Belial; he stayed faithful to the cause for all his Earthly life.” Fantacia said proudly.
Comet walked over to Kathos, he knew that this was hard for Kathos to take in, the thought of Phoenix betraying him would at least make his death easy to cope with, but Phoenix had been his loyal and trusted friend for many years.
“So what do we do now?” Comet asked.
Fantacia realised that she was not talking telepathically, but out loud and everyone had listened as she told of Phoenix and his suffering for his friends and homeland.
“Now we need to make our plans to retrieve the book, but we need to cause as little disruption as possible. If Belial gets wind of what is happening and sends his army to stop us, it will risk him getting his hands on the book. We have no idea how many allies he has, if we are ambushed, his numbers could outweigh ours.” said Fantacia.
Kathos decided to change the subject, if anymore was needed to be said about the book perhaps a later time would be better. The book had meant so little to Victoria, the woman who had it, that it was discarded and ignored; this news had pleased him because it would be easier for them to access it.
“Next we must discuss the need for the Humans to be informed both on Titan and on Earth of Belial’s betrayal. How do we approach this?” Kathos said looking at his warrior leaders.
“We should send envoys to them both, explain who we are and that they have been tricked, it’s no good beating around the bush, these people need to be aware of what they are facing and it needs to be done quickly.” Said Hyedan.
Raidar interrupted “What a crock! These Humans are suspicious of everything; do you think a giant fanged alien stepping into their territory would be seen as friendly? You’re taking the piss! Leave them, we can fight the battle without their help and win.”
“I am saying that a peaceful attempt would be far less stressful on relationships” Hyedan said.
“For Goddess’ sake man, get a backbone!” Raidar replied.
Hyedan sat in his seat knowing there was no point in trying to talk, while Raidar just didn’t have any intention but to go in guns a blazing.
Raidar began pacing, which was nothing new. Orion and Sky just watched as the giant’s face turned war-like, his fangs stood out, like white jewels on his face. Orion began to feel nervous, this guy was as wide as he was long, well almost, even he didn’t want to argue with him.
“These Humans are nothing but weak misguided fools who have let a fallen Angel take over their planet. Do you really want them fighting on our side, well do you? Screw that...do you know what this species is like... a bunch of suspicious, unkind bastards and they have no real powers, they fight with nuclear weapons which destroy their lands and kill their own kind...Why the Hell would we want them fighting with us, they would probably turn on us in the middle of the battle and go on to Belials side” said Raidar angrily.
Orion got to his feet “STOP! Raidar you have no idea, we have lived as Humans for many years, we know this species and they are not all suspicious and weak!” he said angrily.
Raidar stopped and looked; Orion was baring his fangs. On this, the discussion became heated, turning into an argument, so Kathos thought it was time to step in.
“Before you begin your verbal exchange of views, Hyedan has a point, but we cannot just walk in, there must be some other way. Does anyone have a suggestion that would actually help the situation?” Kathos said.
“Yes just let them die!” Raidar stomped to his seat sitting back down in a huff.
“This is how it will happen.” Kathos began “Fantacia and Drakos can decide the best way to get the book, I entrust this mission to you and whoever you wish to take with you?”
“Yes Grandfather.” Fantacia got up to leave the room.
“Orion, you and I will head off to Titan to speak to the people there, Hyedan and Raidar you will do what you do best...train your warriors and when Orion and Fantacia get back from their missions they will join you.” Kathos said. “Sky your job will be to study hard, find out all you can about Reptilia and the Dinosaurs, no one has officially been to this planet, but maybe you can find legends from travellers or the map readers who have been there and sent reports or maybe there are others who have accidently landed there and have brought back stories.”
Sky smiled “That’s what I do best Grandfather.” She said standing up to leave “If you will excuse me now I will get started.”
Sky left the Manor and headed back to her own house on the Estate, she looked back to see Shadow following her, but not because he didn’t want to be with Orion, she was the first one through the door and a dog’s gotta do, what a dog’s gotta do.
The meeting ended, the warriors all shook hands as they went and enjoyed a couple of hours drinking, talking about how plans would go and about the ‘what if’s’.
They all quietly dispersed, in the early hours of morning and went to their homes.
“Do we have a lot of meetings?” Orion asked Raidar and Halen as they jumped into their jeep.
“Mate we don’t do any shit without having a meeting, but hey you’ll soon get used to our ways. Oh yeah and using your powers!” Halen said.
Kale jumped into the jeep behind his father and brother, winking at Orion as he sat down.
Orion began to step away as the engine roared.
The jeep tore off into the night, out of the Manor Estate, down the country lane heading back towards the mountains.
Orion smiled “God, I am gonna love it here, it’s all so frickin’ awesome.”
Chapter 9
‘The Book of Belial’
Drakos knew this would not be an easy trip back to their house, the walk only took minutes and he decided to make no eye contact with Fantacia at all.
Orion had walked round the back way into his own part of the house.
“You’re going now aren’t you?” he asked, as they stepped in through the front door.
Fantacia stood in the hall.
“Yes.” she said.
“Alone I suppose?” he said.
“Sorry Drakos, but yes.”
“Is there nothing I can say to persuade you otherwise?” Drakos said grabbing at her hand and holding it for just a second.
Fantacia smiled at him as she took her hand away.
She looked around her house; Safire had obviously kept up the ritual cleaning and taking care of her whole life until she had returned.
Fantacia put on her long red and black jacket, then she picked up her sword, she had not laid eyes on it for years, yet it was still beautiful and well kept. The handle was platinum gilded with the three Voxian moons on it; rising over a mountain was the Mythus Sun, small and distant, the sword’s blade still gleamed as if brand new. She looked holding it to the light for a second admiring it, then she placed the sword under her coat on the left hand side.
In every warrior’s coat was a built in pocket for the sword to fit in, this was so that if they ever got challenged they were ready to fight in an instant.
Drakos went to speak, but Fantacia had already read the message in his mind before he even opened his mouth.
“No, you can’t persuade me to change my mind Drakos, now let it go, I will see you soon.” She said.
Fantacia teleported.
“She’s picked that back up fast enough!” Drakos said impressed.
He walked through the hall and sat in his large library, he began researching Belial again, he knew that this was not a battle the Voxian people could take lightly; they would need to be prepared for anything.
Fantacia had teleported herself to Worcestershire in the UK, this was the last place she had contact with the book.
She appeared outside Phoenix’s house on the council estate where she’d lived for many years, his house stood empty. Phoenix loved it there, the buzz and the neighbourhood fights.
No-one ever bothered the old blind man...
He knew how much he freaked people out, because they were afraid of him, with his dark cold eyes that looked as if he could see straight into their souls.
Fantacia searched her pockets; there inside one of them she still had the key to his house. She had taken care of Phoenix until he died, it suddenly occurred to her, Voxians were virtually immortal and if he had been on Vox he would have more than likely still been alive now.
But unfortunately Earth was not Vox.
Fantacia stepped up the familiar three deep steps; she unlocked the door with the key. Nothing inside had changed since the old man died, everything was left like a museum exhibition in his honour.
Fantacia shuddered a little; it was quite disturbing for her.
As the door opened the familiar smell hit Fantacia head on, only now there was dust mingled in and the place was in darkness. His chair was still placed next to his cassettes and cassette player all of which were on a small table, with his music and books in brail all in order on a shelf next to that.
Her memories came flooding back as she looked around the house for clues; she knew the old man would make the book safe and that it was close by. She found herself standing in the loft where Phoenix had kept the book so that it could remain hidden from the evil ones. She needed to find Victoria and this would be the only way she could get a psychic connection to her, a bit like following her nose.
Fantacia looked around the place; the loft was small and cramped, filled with old books and letters, things from his army days, things from all countries that he had been sent to during his time in the war.
Fantacia began to concentrate as she passed a box it looked like it had been handmade, carved from mahogany; she noticed straight away the two figures carved into it were Kathos and his Demon brother Belial.
“Oh My God!” she whispered, she realised that she had seen this box a thousand times before, but had never realised what the picture carved on it was.
Fantacia grabbed the box and the connection to it was very powerful.
Fantacia teleported herself to France, the next place in her minds vision.
It was a small villa, in Calais, beautiful; the village was quiet and the air, pollution-free.
The cottage she had immerged in front of had honeysuckle growing up and around the door, concrete white washed walls and roses around the garden which made the whole place very picturesque.
She had heard Phoenix talk of Victoria but had always assumed she would live in Britain. Calais therefore, was a bit of a shock.
The cottage was just off the coastline; Fantacia could smell the sea air.
She began to remember Phoenix talking about the Second World War, he had escaped the Nazis, so he had here and Victoria’s grandmother Mary had hidden him from capture.
Fantacia knew that unlike Phoenix’s empty house this was definitely occupied, her psychic sense of the book was strong here; the cottage she stood outside was a lot older than the council house she had just left in the UK.
She stopped, taking in a deep breath, followed her minds images of where the book was, then she teleported into Victoria’s loft. This was large and high; it had enough room for Fantacia to stand up in and was full of old rocking chairs, large cases and boxes amongst other sundry things.
Paintings of relatives queued on the floor, with eyes that seemed to follow her around the room; the whole place was like a horror film. You could imagine finding foraging wild children hiding in corners, ready to jump out.
“Creepy!” Fantacia whispered to herself.
She found herself walking around the large room, searching until she came to an old tea chest in the far corner, just an old crate on the right side of the attic, there discarded near the top was a large bundle of items all wrapped in a black cloth. Fantacia began to move things. She removed the cloth and underneath was another bundle, wrapped now in silk gold cloth.
She had found it!
Fantacia could feel a strange vibrant power through her fingers.
She grabbed the wrapped book and hurried over putting it into the carved box she had found in Phoenix’s loft.
As she was about to teleport home a noise came from the floor below.
She heard just one word...
‘Murder’
Nothing more than a creepy whisper, but it made the hair on her arms stand on end and she looked at the Goosebumps as they appeared on her arms.
She could hear the whispers of Beth’s Vardu creatures as they entered the room where Victoria lay sleeping.
A shifting of cloth as their cloaks slithered across the wooden floors and a slight hissing sound as they changed from their spirit forms to solid flesh, then a loud piercing scream...
Then there was a silence.
Fantacia knew that she was too late to even attempt to save Victoria.
She had to get out with the book before they realised that she was there, it sounded like there were at least ten creatures on the floor below and Fantacia knew they were too many for her to fight alone, she could not risk the loss of the book, not now, so she concentrated hard, teleporting herself back to her home on Vox.
Drakos was waiting for her; she had been only minutes, he had not even chosen a book to read in his vast library yet.
He could see she had been through drama, the look on her face told him she had just had a lucky escape, but he left her for a few seconds, just to give her some time to compose herself and get her breath back.
Fantacia put the box containing the book on the desk in the library, Drakos smiled at her and she smiled back.
“I take it that was a close call?” Drakos asked her.
“I would say pretty damn close.” she said trying to compose herself a little.
“Who or what did you encounter, is the girl alright?”
“Afraid not, Beth’s stooges got there before I could do anything to help the girl. It was quick if that’s any consolation. There was around ten of them, so I didn’t stop to introduce myself. But obviously my second teleport was longer than I anticipated, I guess Beth’s Vardu must of picked up my scent and planned to jump me, luckily I was too fast for them.” she said.
“That really was a close call then?” Drakos said, impressed.
Fantacia sat for a moment “Next thing will be to make sure the book is unobtainable.”
“Are we informing Kathos that we have the book now?” he said “I believe he will be quite surprised.”
“Yes, of course, he may know a better place to take it now it’s in our possession, somewhere Belial and his followers will not get hold of it” she said.
Fantacia made a telepathic connection with her grandfather and he appeared within seconds.
“You have the book?” Kathos said, euphorically.
Fantacia handed over the box, when Kathos saw the carving upon it, he knew his old friend had made it and had witnessed its carving for himself many years ago, it was meant to carry the book home to Kathos, but it just never arrived.
“My friend gave his life to get this to me. I can only be grateful for knowing him.” said Kathos.
He turned to Fantacia with sorrow in his eyes, but also with relief that the book had finally been brought back to Vox.
“I mourned long ago for Phoenix Grandfather; we can make a memorial in his name here where he belonged, a tribute to a hero.” Fantacia said.
Kathos nodded in agreement clutching the box; it was time to put the book away where it could not be found.
Fantacia hugged her grandfather “It’s time to make it safe now, for all those who have had any contact with this book.”
Kathos took the book back to the Manor; Belial would never go there, so it was safe until they had decided where it should go.
Fantacia could not rest; she found herself teleporting into the Manor when all had gone quiet, she went to the shelf where the box had been placed, when she opened it the book sat wrapped in the cloth, untouched.
Fantacia took out the contents and vanished.
In the morning the book was gone, the box carved by Phoenix was now empty, on the shelf where Kathos had left it.
Kathos was relieved; no explanation was needed, because he knew his granddaughter had taken the book out of harm’s way.
Back to Titan
The task set for Kathos and Orion seemed to feel a lot less threatening than the one Fantacia had been through retrieving the book only days before. The two of them set out for a day’s intensive training with Raidar in the mountains, before even contemplating going back to Titan.
“We need to use a ship.” Kathos said looking at Orion “We could teleport but I am worried about detection.”
Kathos picked the keys up to the hotel that Fantacia had converted into their home on Titan.
“The thing is Orion, I can’t teleport easily, I need other Voxians with me, as you are only one of two and a space ship would perhaps be a better option.” Kathos said.
“So where are we going first?” said Orion.
“Your old home, we need to see if Beth has invaded that as well. We have a great pilot for our mission, it’s Comet, he has a good warning system if we need to vacate anywhere quickly, we will try to do this without too much fuss.” Kathos said.
“When you say fuss, you mean without a fight with Beth and her fanged zombies!” said Orion.
“Yes, I suppose I do. Her parasitic Vardu friends are no match for Voxians, but we are few and she travels with many to fight her battles, other Voxian warrior’s could be with quickly, but I still believe that would leave us at a disadvantage for a short while, which is all she may need” said Kathos.
Orion didn’t argue with his grandfather, he had a strange image of what he believed a Vampire was, (or as the Voxians called them Vardu,) from films and books he had seen on Earth, but there they were meant to be just made up creatures in stories.
It was not until his mother had returned from Earth only days ago, he had a much clearer picture of what they did and that worried him far more than the romantic killers he had encountered whilst growing up as a Human.
“Grandfather, what exactly are these creatures like?” Orion asked.
“Like nothing seen before, the Vardu are swollen and bloated like a Human body found dead in water; their eyes are red with no pupils and when they cry it is blood, like they are bleeding on the inside and it is escaping to the outside. They make a hissing sound as they come up from the ground in groups, it is like gas being released from a pipe, they have fangs from the top and bottom rows of teeth, sharp, jagged and yellow usually with age and the smells of decaying flesh are overwhelming.”
Kathos looked seriously as he spoke to Orion; knowing that these creatures were definitely not what Orion had imagined them to be.
“Where are they from?” Orion asked.
“Nowhere, their planet was destroyed long ago, so now they go from place to place in our Universe hunting for blood to consume, they keep living at the expense of other lives. The truth is they are an alien being, with no home they just prey on the weak.” Kathos said.
Orion for the first time since leaving Titan felt a little scared.
“What else can you tell me?” Orion asked.
“They travel under the ground, like spirits, almost silent, faster than any creature I have ever come across in my many thousands of years. A sudden sadness fills their victim, like they will never be happy again; their will to die becomes so strong. As they bite with their many fangs and drain their victims of blood, the Vardu become solid, almost Human looking and for a split second you could mistake them as a person, which legend says they were once, many centuries ago before they turned.” Kathos said.
“Jesus Christ! They sound frickin’ dreary!” Orion said.
“Dreary, well yes they are, but once bitten if the creature hasn’t killed its victim already, you have the same life as they do. Belial loves the Vardu, they are like living Hell all wrapped up in a cold Human form.” Kathos said.
“What about our species Grandfather, have they ever turned us?” Orion asked.
“No, they have neither the method, nor the inclination Orion. Voxians are far too complex a being for a mere Vardu to even get near.” he said.
The two stepped from the Manor where Comet was waiting for them, getting into a large jeep and with a roar from the engine; they sped off with Comet at the wheel.
“So tell us what you can about Titan?” Comet asked Orion as they drove. “Make it quick though because our journey to the hanger will be short.”
Orion began talking about the moon’s atmosphere, it didn’t take him long, then he began on his favourite subject; the smell that lingered in even through the domes ‘The smell of cow dung!’ was how he put it.
All was quite basic, the explanations were over even before they reached the field and the three men were settled quickly in the ship and on Titan before conversation began again.
“I am hungry!” Orion said stroking his stomach like a small child.
“What do we do for food here on Titan?” Comet asked him.
“We either shop at a supermarket or we use my machine which makes food through replication.” Orion smiled.
“What type of food do you like?” Kathos enquired.
“Well, I love cheese on toast, beans on toast, macaroni cheese and chicken soup with bread.” Orion said.
“Mmh, that’s interesting.” said Kathos
“Why, what do you eat being an Angel.” Orion asked.
“Me? I don’t have much of a problem, being an Angel I don’t actually need to eat, but do enjoy trying different foods from places.” Kathos said.
“So, is there something wrong with me? I have Angel blood as well, why do I get hungry?” Orion asked.
“Now that’s quite an interesting question, because you are not just Angel blood but Voxian as well and they- EAT! Mind you, you haven’t really tried any of the food on Vox yet have you?” Kathos asked Orion.
Orion sat thinking about this, no one had actually eaten any food that he had noticed, he had no inclination to eat until reaching Titan.
“We should talk about this perhaps when we have not got to consider other things.” Kathos said looking now at Comet for help.
“Maybe we can discuss this later, after we get to the hotel.” Comet said getting into a 4X4.
“Okay, new subject” Orion said, “when we were last on this moon, we found a paper discarded by Beth, it was from Earth. It had a photograph of Belial with Beth and Mia and dated after the so called evacuation. The picture showed Earth, still running smoothly with a new PM.”
Comet looked a little confused “What is a PM?” he said.
Orion had forgotten that the Voxian system was far different from Earth. “A Prime Minister!” he said.
It made no difference to the confusion that was until Orion explained that a PM ran the country’s finances and other things like debating between other countries with the UK, that some countries even had presidents that did the same thing.
Comet began to yawn a little after a while, it was all a bit boring to him, he was trying not to be rude, but as in all conversations that we have no interest in, the basic need to yawn falls over us all.
The 4X4 came to a standstill and the men got out, they were standing outside the converted hotel, nothing appeared to have been disturbed.
Orion ran up the stairs opening the door, he then went straight over to the replicator and said the words ‘Cheese on toast?’ it took him only seconds. He made plenty of food and drinks for his family; he sat down in front of the television switching on the DVD player ‘Dracula,’ with a cup of tea and a massive pile of cheese on toast.
“Good times.” He said mimicking one of his favourite Earth comedians.
Kathos and Comet just looked at him and then began to eat. The strange film was about a vampire, Vardu with only two fangs, he was in love with a Human, the Vardu would rip this woman apart, they could only find such romanticism funny.
“I wonder what a Vardu would make of all this.” Orion asked.
“They are living dead, I don’t think they do have much in the way of thinking, they just have the instinct to feed.” Comet replied.
They all settled down eating and watching, laughing mainly settling down for the long stay they would have there on the moon Titan.
