The Beast Within

The coaches house was well over an hour from the school, but I didn’t mind the drive it was peaceful, and even more so knowing i had a home to go to now. We were on a long winding road that stretched the side of some of the big hills the moon had risen high in the sky and was full and bright. The soft summer air flooded through the vents of the old truck, and i just set back and closed my eyes and enjoyed the peace. Not a minute after the truck slowly came to a stop. i opened my eyes to see why we had stopped, and standing not even a hundred feet in front of the truck was a young man with his hand raised telling us to stop. He was tall and slender. He wore a black leather jacket and some ripped up jeans, and his long black hair covered his left eye. He seemed to be staring right at me. Then a small grin showed sharp white teeth.
“What the he-“ coach was cut off, something crashed into the side of the truck with such force it sent us hurling over the edge. The truck was flipping, and all I can remember is coach looking at me with the most loving eyes at we fell. Time seemed to almost stand still staring into his eyes. He smiled, and then we smashed into the side of the hill. At this point we were flipping so fast everything was a blur with every impact I could feel bones breaking. I hit my head more time than I could count and I could already feel blood gushing from my head. It seemed like we were rolling down the hill forever then with one last jump the truck landed flat on its top and came to a stop. I opened my eyes because I had been clenching them shut. I tried to turn my head but immediately pain shot through my entire body. I was sure all the bones in my body were broken, and I could feel warm liquid dripping from my head. Blood I’m sure of it. I closed my eyes, and just dangled there. The pain is to much. I give up just let me die. I thought to myself.
“When have you ever given up?” Said a deep voice. I tried to answer out loud only to find I couldn’t even move my mouth. So I thought my answer to myself.
“My body is broken. I can’t move, what can I do?”, and sure enough someone answered.
“Ask for help? Have you tried that?” The voice said. I don’t know if it was the pain, but talking to a voice in my head seemed totally normal. I would have chuckled if I could’ve moved.
“Okay, I know this is probably some pain induced hallucination but I’ll entertain it. Will you help me?”
“Nope.” The voice answered simply.
“Well, that’s annoying. Why even give me the idea to ask for help then?”
A deep laughter resonated in my head.
“Is something funny? I’m dangling, broken so excuse me if I missed the joke.”
“The pain will still be the same, but you’ll be able to move if I help you. Can you handle it.”
“I’ll try. I doubt this is real or if anything will happen, but at least this is taking my mind off the pain.”
“This is real Alexander. Now try to move your arm and unbuckle your seatbelt.”
I did as the voice said, and I almost couldn’t believe what was happening. The pain was near unbearable but I was able to move. Slowly I reached up and with a shot of pain I clicked the button. I fell hard onto the roof, and my entire body erupted in pain. I would’ve screamed out in pain if I could’ve. I began to turn my head to look at coach.
“Don’t Alexander. He’s dead, and you don’t need to see him like that. Remember the loving eyes you saw before, and work on getting us out of this truck.” Tears swelled in my eyes, but I knew the voice was right so I didn’t look. I rolled over to my stomach and crawled across the broken glass to the smashed window. The whole time I was being cut, but I was already in so much pain I didn’t notice. It seemed as if I was crawling forever before I finally escaped the truck. I rolled back to my back once I was on the grass and the full moon was staring down at me.
“Alexander. We’re not done you have to move. That man was after you. He’ll be coming to see if you survived.”
I didn’t answer I just forced myself to stand eating more pain than I thought I ever could, and I started limping.
“Follow my sense and it’ll lead us to a safe place.”
“Who are you!?”
“There is no time for introductions yet, I’m sorry. Just move. We have to make it to the cave.”
I felt A sense of direction hit me and I picked up the pace in that direction. Not long after I had been limping away I heard a loud screech echo through the air.
“Alexander, I need you to run. It’s going to hurt, worse than anything you can imagine but I’ll give you the strength.”
I felt my muscles strengthen further and I started to run, but the pain hit me like a truck and immediately tears began to stream down my face.
“Keep going it’s not much further.”
We were passing through woods, but I had no idea where we were except for that sense of direction that was telling me where to go and it brought me to a flat rock face.
“Where do I go?” I asked the voice.
“Dive into the rock, NOW!”
Without hesitation I dove into the rock face, and passed right through it. I landed on a natural rock slide and I was moving down fast. It was dark and I couldn’t see much but a light at the end of the slide.
“This is going to hurt brace yourself.”
I clenched my eyes hard and I felt the initial explosion of pain as I hit the bottom, but then I passed out.
