Life After You

The sudden gasp of air
Like a drowning man in the sea
bittersweet taste of new
after you left me
every night I drink cheap wine
my youth, full hips, thick hair
Monday turns to Friday on repeat
And I'm dancing tip toe on cold air
The barren streets at sunrise
The heart weighing heavily
And here I am, six months later
Still loving you viciously
I saw you in the furious rain
In the lonely cup of tea
I never truly believed
In life for you without me
And here I am sewing my heart
Back onto my sleeve
The night air is cold
I dream, I sleep, I grieve
I ran along the cobblestones
Danced alone in the street
You were the first letter of my alphabet
Too savage to be complete
And so I let you pull me apart
Knowing furiously
That there is no life, no breath like you
Yet you exist after me
So I ran along the cobblestones
Till I reached the open sea
This life, this breath, this vicious love
Has had the best of me
