U: The Lesson

From an early age most men are taught
their central lifelong macho fear:
that basic fear of being caught.
Those secret playground fights we fought
to keep them from the teachers ear;
from an early age most men are taught.
Add a few quid to the clothes we bought
to cover expenses of fags and beer:
that basic fear of being caught.
To little white lies we usually resort,
emphasised with a childish leer;
from an early age most men are taught.
From that original joint to the last cheeky snort
we see the paranoia shift up a gear:
that basic fear of being caught.
Life appears long but in truth it's short
and nothing's quite as it appears,
from an early age most men are taught
that basic fear of being caught.
