I love poems where the form reflects the content. When this came to me, I could just imagine having a tantrum and stamping my little foot along with the beat of the words.

My niece was a terrible tantrum-er.  She'd lie down, in the supermarket aisle, in the puddles on the road, wherever she happened to be, and scream her head off.  My sister used to ignore her and just walk off, which was the best approach.  Sounds like you've been through all that !

Whenever any of my offspring, or the offspring of my offspring, make any sort of unreasonable request for anything at all, I calmly say ‘I want a Tamagotchi’. These words remind all members of our family (particularly my youngest daughter) of an incident in Toys ‘Я’ Us in Swindon about thirty years ago that went down in history as the worst case of toddler tantrums in the history of toddlers.

So if I were you I would avoid reading your poem whenever you’re in the Swindon area. They might think you’re one of my kids.

Sound advice Turlough, good to hear from you again. I noticed you've been quiet of late, I hope you and Madame P are well. I will refrain from accosting strangers in the Swindon area and forcing them to listen to my poem and foot stamping.

Ah, we’re grand thanks. Just a few difficulties with the weather, the computer, the dog and global politics. I hope all's well with you and yours.

On subsequent trips to Swindon I would pretend that I was only keeping an eye on the child while her real father, Hamilton Bohannon, was out at work.

Oh that's great ! I've just had a little boogie around my living room whilst Albert the cat looked on with a 'oh really, must you' expression.

What a shame Mr Bohannon has passed away.  I'm sure he would have been interested in setting my poem to music.

Ah, you made me do a LOL.

I’m sure your skills as a lyricist are worthy of a higher standard of music than Mr B’s disco stomp.

How about Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘Three little maids from school are we and we want a Tamagotchi!’

Did you know that Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O’Sullivan spent some of his formative years living in Swindon? It amazes me how all these things in our world are linked.

Did Albert stomp all four feet?

It is indeed a small world.  Look how Jenny and I knew about the philosopher at The Beehive. Swindon does rather seem to be the centre of the known universe.  

If Albert had been a dog I expect he would have got up and danced about with me whilst barking excitedly, but being a cat he just opened one eye and subjected me to pitying looks.
