So I never did

We met
- as is so often the case -
through friends;
or friends of friends.
In the c l u t t e r of parties,
and their polite remarks:
‘This is-
He’s a-’
‘... And how have you been since the move?’
Shuffling in our smiles,
We
took
it
in
turns
to forget the other’s name
and paint gazes on the artwork
dressing opposite walls.
I’d think…
in the gym,
or when falling asleep,
or somewhere else entirely,
that I’d like to know more…
about the grease in that hair.
But,
just too shy to ask.
So I
never did.

A significant poem of questions not asked. I like the layout of your words, like a party of mingling guests.
