"Aw Baby, Ya know what I like" moaned the Big Bopper as he confessed his fetish for Chantilly Lace and pony tails. Of course, he also liked a pretty face but rilly who doesn't.
As usual this year's films were filled with the always popular pretty faces and many of them are in the movies that everybody knows that every mainstream critic will put in their top 10. The Award winners step forward for recognition and this year as always, they will hog the lights in all the movie lists that have been or will be posted.
More important perhaps in synchronizing with a critic are discovering his/her least favorite films of the year. ?hey baby, now I know what you don't like."
We saw 36 movies/films/netflickers whatever they are called in 2019. I'll indicate the one's that we saw in a theater and I want to start with the 3 that I disliked the most.
Most disliked......Annabelle Comes Home. (theater)
Lynn is a big fan of The Conjuring franchise, at least she was until she saw this travesty which coupled with last season's The Nun, have drained all of the validity of this franchise into one of those dark mysterious rooms that we all have become bored with and smash the beejezuz out of it. Vera Farmiga has the good sense to get the hell out of this film as soon as she can while we the audience have to stick around and keep hopin that the mess will somehow get better before we leave the theater vowing never to fall for this crap again but it doesn't and we did and we won't.
Second Most disliked.......Motherless Brooklyn (theater)
Motherless Brooklyn was intended to be tour de force for its director and writer Edward Norton. Instead it becomes a tour de farce as it tries to mix6 or seven backstories into a film noir art show, Manhattan version of Chinatown with Norton as Nicholson and Alec Baldwin of all people as John Huston. As if this isn't burdensome enough, Norton's character has Tourette syndrome which gives Norton the impetus for a round of ACTING which is never possible to ignore and breaks all the rules of Hamlet's advice to the players. And the movie is waaaaaayyyy tooooooo lllooooonnnnnnggggg.
Third Most Disliked......It 2 or whatever It called Itself (theater)
This one I hated. I didn't like the book. I hated the book. It was the first book in which I begin to see the problems with King. Up to that point, I had been a huge fan. As much as I hated the book, I hate this movie even more although I can't spill my coffee on the movie like I did on the book. Lynn went to see last year's version on her own and I didn't go with her. She thought the movie was good and so did a bunch of critics. I admitted that I might have been wrong and let my prejudices blind me. With hat in hand, I went to see this year's version. The cast was promising. I'll never trust any of 'em again. The continual flashback's to the previous year's version took up half the time of this year's version and validated the concept in my mind that BOTH films sucked but especially this one.
So there they are....the bottom 3
Now you know a bit more about me.
