Here's a little thing from our newest album Cookin' Out...Eatin' In. We call it Southern Fried Chicken. We're gonna be releasin' it as a single with Meetin' Potatoes on the flip side.
The story behind Southern Fried Chiken is very simple. We moved down South a year ago. We bought a Weber Grill like everybody else. We bought a few chicken parts and threw 'em on the grill after we covered 'em with barbecue sauce. We drank a couple of beers while we turned over the parts until they were done jus' raht.
If we had stayed in New York, Sothern Fried Chicken would have been fake.
Then we brought 'em into the house. Set em down on the table in a plate of their own. There were plenty of other plates on the table but it was the Fried Chicken that stood out over the salads, the melons, and the fried rice.
We decided to let the Fried Chicken take a solo. To our amazement the Fried Chicken went into an ironic version of the lead in Free Bird. We let it crank as you can hear when you get the album. Pretty sure you'll be able to pick up the surprising level of astonished and astonishing committment and sacrifice emanating from the down home, super realistic riffs flying from the wingless fowls as if the bird expecting to attend a debutante ball but had arrived instead at a dog fight.
There are no frills here. No Kodachrome. Only the remnants of a blazing Carolina evening and the ceremonies that nourish the traditions and the tastes.
Once you finished listening to Fried Chicken, flip the disc for something a little different...a slab of ground beef with mashed potatoes seemingly oozing from the meet. The beef is a bit of a blur. We decided to highlight the potatoes because of their earthy overtones and because of their lack of bloodshed, their overwhelming neutrality.
So folks, here 'tis
Southern Fried Chicken
