Esteemed philosopher/auteur Allan Konigsberg made the observation that a man who wanted to be ridden like a horse was a pervert until he met a woman who wanted to ride a man like a horse and then he was part of a love story.
Wants and needs
An unusual need becomes a want.
When we marry, we agree to attend to the needs of our partner. It's a risky business.
Often we find out that those needs are not what we expected or knew about when we took our wedding vows. Some are unusual.
Too often, after full excovery has resulted in shutdown, the broken hearted partner will ask of the dumper.
"Why did you do this? I gave you everything that you wanted."
The dumper wearing the diamond ring and driving the Cadillac car usually responds
"Yes you did but you didn't give me what I needed."
Or vice versa
"I gave you everything that you needed."
"Yeah but that wasn't what I wanted."
etc
Is there an answer to this problem?
The only answer is devotion.
We must enter into a marriage and continue that marriage with a devotion to fullfill the wants and needs of our partners to the limits of our toleration. We must be understanding without being gullible. We must be willing to change. We must think about discovery rather than excovery.
Unusual Needs for Inclusion, Toleration and Exclusion; Devotion
UNITED
Saddled up
Ready to ride or be ridden
A continual state of beginning.
It's always only the beginning as trust and committment open new possibilities.
Our partner has our back or in some cases on our back.
Give us the dice; we're on a roll.
Co-operative antagonism.
Both parties accomplishing more than they would have accomplished alone.
United we stand
Everbody wins
Haylen, however, was growing in her suspicion that Hugh was not meeting her needs as consistently as she was meeting his. She was becoming his caretaker. She asked the rreasonable question; "Who's gonna take care of me."
She began to rock the boat.
Far more comfortable with exclusion than Hugh, Haylen with her deceptive caribou eyes saw leaks and icebergs everywhere.
Hugh wondered what's for dinner.

I feel as if this takes a bit
I feel as if this takes a bit of time to get to the true story, but I liked the opening paragraph, and the last few paragraphs really clinched it, portraying the crux of the problem with an economy of prose, and just the right details to bring that prose to life.
