Your Separation

Confusion, glints in those eyes
That stare in defiant confidence
As you question my certainty
And try to label my God
Your whys and wherefores
Are lost encircling my heart
They have no way in
My heart does not know labels
And the door will not open
To passwords which are just guesses
You’re looking for holes
But the hole is your own
Your heart bleeds questions
As answers seep out and away
And mirrors are soiled with blood
That sticks as you mock
And the name by which He goes
Calls you in your own depths
Like it calls me in mine
Call him what you will, I will too
But when you find Him you’ll know
That to Him words do not matter
So why pretend they do?
His suffocation has no name
Suffocation, separation, it’s the same
And as you hold Him inside
And separate Him from Himself
He seeks the space to breathe
As you choke on your questions
And your jokes fade away
In the drum of my ear
And those beats from afar
Make more beautiful sounds
Than your doubting ever will.
