Chewy and Exhausting

This world is overwhelming,
I could never eat it in this lifetime
but it wants to eat me.
I can feel it.
Hopefully not for breakfast;
I’ll sacrifice myself for dinner
or a late-night snack.
Everywhere I look there are teeth.
I must get in first!
Just sink my teeth in somewhere..
anywhere and hold on tight
but it’s so chewy and exhausting.
Much of it tastes bitter,
sour, gritty enough to choke
but there’s rare stuff too,
that’s sweet enough
to make you want to stay
and eat so much that you’re dizzy
but you mustn’t take your eye
off the teeth or give in
to weariness and stop chewing.
Then you’ll sink and fall
right into the world’s open mouth.
And it’s never full, the world.
You’re the one who’s had enough,
one day you’ll get sick.
And realise you were only ever
a snack.

I understand exactly where
I understand exactly where you're coming from Jane, it's a dog eat dog world that leaves you exhausted.

Life on Mars
Perhaps Kandy in Sri Lanka or Sugar Loaf Mountain in Brazil would be a good place to start. Or even Bakewell where the tarts come from. And if all else fails you could start a new life on Mars.
I enjoyed your alternative approach to dealing with the gloomiest of global gloom. I think I'll read it again with a cuppa tea and a Nice biscuit.
