Spyglass

I was seven when I remember first seeing him. I had lived with my older sister before the world, and life, had decided to become hectic. Most everything was quite peaceful those days. Though I heard stories and news of wars of wars far away places and secret conflicts years passed. I had chosen not to those stories and the news I heard. The world around me was peaceful, so why should about wars somewhere else? My sister would often lecture me about this, but I failed to change my mind.
I was very close to my sister, most likely because I didn’t have any parents. My sister helped run an orphanage in her house. Truly, my sister really isn’t my sister. Apparently when I was a baby my sister had found me in a forest. She took me home with her and raised me like her as her sister.
My sister was weird, but in a good way I guess. She was always building all these machines around the house. Including small little robots that would run around the house doing various chores while my sister, the other kids, and I played around the house. I had always been interested in pirates since I was a little girl. It wasn’t long before I started to start talking like a pirate. My sister had tried to stop me, and tried to make speak normally. But it was a failed attempt, though I felt like she respected my choice. Though she was slightly agitated whenever I took my spyglass out and spied at people, she always told me that curiosity killed the cat. I didn’t understand it for a long time; because I always would point I was a girl not a cat.
That was the way life was back then.

One day, my sister was planning on taking me to Termina for the day to look at shops and enjoy the city. I was really excited because I didn’t get to go the city very often, and I really enjoyed the excursions my sister and I took together.
I was slow to waking up that morning, but that wasn’t surprising. I’ve never been a morning person, my sister though, was always up by the sun had dawned.
I hurried up and got dressed as my sister was yelling at me from downstairs. I rushed down the stairs just as my sister was leaving out the door. I settled down and followed after her. I came quickly to realizing that I had forgotten my spyglass in the room. “Oh, hold on. I forgot something. Sorry.” I was saying as I rushed back in the house. I could hear her sigh as was going up at the stairs. It was to be expected, since I usually always forgot something. I went to my drawer and grabbed the spyglass, and hurried myself back outside. “I’m ready now.” I smiled as we began to walk towards the city.
It was really crowded in the city that day. My sister had told me it was because it was a market day; she said that merchants had come from all the way from Arni village. At that time I had no clue where Arni village was or what a merchant was, but I still enjoyed all the interesting people and their stands where they were selling their goods. Though I soon got tired at looking at all the stands through my spyglass and wanted to go somewhere else. I began to tug at my sister’s arm “Lucca, I wanna go somewhere else. I’m bored. Can we go look at the water?” I whined.
“In a little bit, ok? I have some more errands to run” she said trying to reassure me.
“Okay…” I said, still whining a bit.
I hid behind my sister the rest of the time, I no longer cared for all the stands. I only wanted to go look down at the water with my spyglass. My sister had reached her final errand spot on the bridge near the water. I looked at the small river flowing into the ocean when I noticed a small sparkle of light in the water. Turning to go tell my sister about the sparkle I just saw, I saw walking ahead of me. I hurried to go catch up with her, when I bumped into somebody. I fell to the ground and my spyglass dropped with me onto the ground. I quickly brought myself to my feet as I noticed somebody pick up my spyglass.
“Here you go. You dropped this” they said as they handed the spyglass to me. Once in my hand I quickly put it in my pocket so that it wouldn’t fall out again. I then looked at the boy who picked up my spyglass. He was my age and wore this dorky bandana with these silly shorts. He was also shorter then me, I giggled a little at it. He was puzzled “What’s so funny?”
“Oh…Nothing, mate” I smiled, recovering from my giggling. “Thanks for picking up me spyglass.”
“…uh…you’re welcome.”
“I’ve got to set sail now.”
“…Nice meeting you, too. My name is Serge.”
“Nice meetin’ ya Serge. My name’s Kid” I said beginning to run off to see my sister. “See ya, mate.”
