Lost
The girl was missing
Yet she was running through the forest
Over logs and under branches
The shrubbery devoured her.
Her parents stirred on that bright early morning
Her mother waking and making coffee
Up she called to her little girl
No answer…
She checked her room
She checked the den.
She checked every place imaginable
But the girl was running
Out and away from the house
In secret
As she got away the doves started to cry
It was early morning and the animals were stirring.
A phone call to the police
A search had begun
Where was she heading?
Not even the girl knew
She followed the railways
Balancing on the tacks
She stumbled but was able to catch her grip on the tracks below her feet.
She thought she would never return home
To a mother that cried for her return
Her mother sat with the police and explained her daughter’s
Looks, behavior, and last time she ever saw her.
Again and again the mom repeated the story to numerous people.
The girl still ventured into the woods
The sounds were loud at times but then fell into complete silent.
Barefooted she still ventured out
The woods were getting thicker with every step she took
Until barely any light came trough the leaves above
The girl looked from left to right and back again
The forest was dead, silent, no one was around
But still sounds of what a nightmare would hold,
Still echoing through the trees.
A father protects.
But not this one…
He is evil, the monster that hides in the face of a man
The girl runs faster
How could she ever run far enough?
A mother weeps not knowing where her baby has gone.
A father scared not for his daughter
He is scared for himself,
He let it happen and now she is gone.
He knows why she had ran away but how can he tell
No one could know the reason she has run.
He cannot let the secret out
It’s been held in to long
Protected by threats
But she is his daughter and so he is now lost
Lost in his own tangled web.
He was the drunken father who beat and hurt the girl.
The mother had no idea.
The beatings only came when she wasn’t around
And the girl…pressured not to tell
Was alone, back in the woods, in the leaves, in life.
Then she stopped.
Catching her breath.
And for the first time she noticed she was not alone.
Things came out and came to her
Deer, birds, squirrels, and mice surrounded her.
One look in their eyes and she knew
She must go home.
To the worthless father and unknowing mother.
In hope for justice.
She told everything she had to offer and he was sent away.
Now it was the girl and the mother.
No more running.
