Remember Love

I know you've ceased to love me. We've grown apart,
We're different now, and everything has changed
But you can't change my memory - I'll always have those happy
days
And the pictures they left in my mind, mental snapshots of you and
I
As we used to be - in love and complete.
We can't ever be the same as we were then,
It's impossible to recreate those long-gone summer days,
Those sweet full nights, those innocent games.
We always let each other win back then - we forgave so easily
But I don't know where perfect is today, or when it began to slip
away.
Why didn't we realise before it got too late to change our minds,
Before we let each other out of sight, hiding behind wounded
pride,
Before we gave our love away?
And now we're two halves again; gone is the two of us being one -
It's you and I, defensive, up against each other
Instead of our strength of love up against the rest of them,
Like it was once&;#8230; oh, let's just call it a day.
But goodbye is such an over-used word - let's not say it here,
Let's just walk away and remember love how it used to be,
How it was once, in those lost days.
