Warning
Jennifer Pickup, 14.05.2025
The best things are intangible
Those precious things
We can’t see or touch
Money can’t buy the best things
Those special things
We want too much
Luck and love and happiness
Youth and health and trust
Flowers that bloom most brightly
So soon are turned to dust
The best things are frangible
Those beautiful things
After which we lust
Be careful with the best things
Those magical things
Gifted to us
Mercury and quicksilver
Slipping through your hands
Moonbeams and full arch rainbows
Time drowns us in its sands
A tattered four leaf clover
A black cat that does not cross
Before the party’s over
An echoed sense of loss
Heartbreak and disappointment
Our bodies all fail and age
And there will be betrayal
Joy descends into rage
The best things are ephemeral
Those borrowed things
They all self-combust
You cannot keep the best things
Those cherished things
Don’t stay with us

Your word play, the message-
Your word play, the message--both stunning and poignant, in my opinion

So true Jennifer - 'do not
So true Jennifer - 'do not store up your riches where the moths and rust can eat them'.

Thanks Jennifer. A saying
Thanks Jennifer. A saying that I've kept: 'you can't build a house on a bridge', for me, when we look around our nice home, I remind myself that one day, sooner or later, some other people will live here. It's relations that matter.
