ZEIGERT`S PASS
-----------------------------
The thin, drawn, troubled man stood at the junction of the Metropolis
buildings. He crossed the road, continually, backwards and forwards.
Every so often, he held out his
hand and flashes of light streaked from his fingertips. He appeared
confused and desolate, as he sought to understand his behavior.
A young beautiful woman appeared. "I am here. Lets go, " she said.
Zeigert followed her, not knowing who she was or why she had approached
him. They walked into a shopping centre and ascended an elevator. The
building was deserted apart from their presence.
Zeigert felt an inexplicable rush of love for the woman, who picked
his emotion up, and smiled. It was only then he remembered. "My
daughter," he cried. "Aristophanie ".
She hugged him. "Had you forgotten me?" Aristophanie teased him. She
held out her hands, and flashes streaked from it. A
dove flew above their heads, leading them upwards.
A third person appeared on the scene, a swarthy, muscular male. Zeusus
had once had a connection with Aristophanie, but it`s precise nature
eluded him. He acknowledged Aristophanie, with a nod of his head, but
did not
speak to her. She turned away from him quietly. Then, he addressed
Zeigert. "Where have you been?" Zeigert answered hesitantly. "I`ve been
standing by the Metropole hotel, but I can`t explain why."
The mention of the Metropole brought them all outside the building.
They crossed the road together, and as the traffic approached Zeigert
ran in front of the cars, and back onto the other side. He timed
himself, running ever more quickly across the road, as he gained
momentum.
"This won`t help you" said his daughter, "and you know it." They held
out their hands as streaks of light, blazed across the town. From the
opposite direction, flashes of light
could be seen darting out of a window on a nearby office building.
"Whose that," asked Zeigert. Aristophanie looked at him guiltily. "Even
angels deserve some pleasure" she observed.
"I asked the keeper of lost dreams to take me away," she
explained.
A man in a green deer stalker appeared, from the shadows. "I will look
after your daughter," he said, decisively. The father protested, as too
did Zeusus. Zeigert watched despondently, as
Aristophanie, and the keeper, departed.
Zeigert stood alone, and found himself crossing the road again, on
impulse. He could not resist, but this time, his body was one streak of
white light.
