Hear this David Jones

I wrote a song for you

About a strange young man called Bowie

With a voice like poetry in motion.

 

He was the man who sold the world, but he never sold out.

He was the man who fell to earth, but he’s gone back to heaven now.

 

We’ve seen everything, our generation,

Art to the farthest reaches of the imagination,

Art for Art’s sake.

Sexual openness, and public fascination,

Transsexuality and gay marriage,

Pornography and honesty,

The downfall of old ways and attitudes,

as the new young keep coming up,

exploring new fantasies, new dreams.

 

Riding the New Wave,

For all eternity.

I wrote this in January 2016 after he died, but did a few finishing adjustments today. So I thought it was time to post it.

A much loved man who will be so missed.

Loved those lines: -

Art to the farthest reaches of the imagination.

and

as the new young keep coming up,

exploring new fantasies, new dreams.

I remember back in the early 70s being the young dude that I was, loving the spiders from mars and bowie's never ending imagination for individualism...a true visionary.

Thanks Jenny. I am pleased you liked it. As I said it was time to post this one as he died well over two years ago.. Bowie was an incredibly changeable artist, and yet everything he touched was artistic gold. I felt more of a loss from hearing of his death than from the loss of other famous people. It made me feel the passing of his generation and the aging of my own.
