Chapter One
Tyler Andrews opened the doors into the tower. Behind her stood her
best friend Scott Stevens. As they entered the tower, the oak doors
slammed shut behind them. Tyler looked around; in front of her stood
some large spiralling stairs with wooden torches, lit and hanging to
the wall. That's weird, thought Tyler, I swear they weren't here
before. Still, she started walking up the stone stairs, stopping now
and then to inspect the torches. Benhind her, she could hear Scott's
muffled footsteps. To her, they sounded quite far away, but she
thought; that's just because everything's made of stone. As she was
reaching the top of the stairs, she spotted an arched window and
decided to see what the view was like.
When she reached the window she leaned out and bent over to look at the
streets below. What she saw, shocked her. Instead of modern London with
all the shopping malls and food courts, there were wooden houses and
women walking around in victorian style dresses. Instead of cars and
motorbikes, there were horse and carriages. What is going on?!?
She stepped away from the window and turned around to tell Scott what
she had seen, only to find that he wasn't there. "Scott!" Tyler yelled
his name and listened eagerly for his reply, but all she could hear was
the echo of her own voice, bouncing off the walls of the tower. Maybe
he's carried on going up, she thought and she ran to the top of the
stairs.
Just as she was walking towards the first door, she heard several
voices coming from inside it, and neither came from Scott and the
people speaking did not have a London or modern day British accent. As
Tyler stood outside the room listening to the converstation she
realised that the men were talking about murdering someone- by means of
hanging them- and by the sounds of it, someone young.
Deciding that she'd heard enough, Tyler crept past the doorway and
walked down the corridor to the left. As she turned to enter a room, a
hand reached out and grabbed her shoulder. At first she thought it was
Scott but as she spun on her feet to look at him she realised that it
wasn't Scott at all. Instead she was looking into the angry eyes of a
man, roughly 2 feet taller than her. He was wearing a weird outfit,
that looked like he was a gaurd or something and if you looked close
enough you could see the tilt of his sword. " You shouldn't be here.
Second kid I seen today." His voice was croaky and it sounded rather
agressive. There wasn't a single note in his voice that could be
recognisable as friendly. " Looks like you'll get punished too. Against
th' law to walk round here. C'mon, to the dungeons ya go." His hand
gripped Tyler's shoulder hard and he started pulling her down the
corridor. She struggled of course, but every time she did so, his hand
would tighten a notch. He dragged her up some stone stairs and it felt
like they would never reach the top, but soon enough they were stood
outside a wooden door.
There was no handle on the door and it looked like the gaurd had taken
a wrong turn until he reached out and rapped on the door with his fist.
It echoed around them for a while, then it slowly died away into the
walls.
Slowly, the door opened outwards, and behind it stood another gaurd. He
had grey hair and was wearing a tattered uniform. When he saw Tyler he
grinned and lowered himself to Tyler's level, his nose only inches away
from hers. When he opened his mouth to speak, Tyler smelt something
putrid. He spoke very slowly. "Don't worry love, we'll put you out of
ya misery soon enough. Last thing you'll see is sunset and then..." He
ended his conversation but putting a finger across his neck and poking
his tongue out, laughing as he did so. With every word he had said,
particles of spit landed on Tyler's face.
Tyler was pushed into the room and her hands were chained up to the
wall. There was only one window in the room and Tyler could hear the
faint echo of laughter coming from the streets below. The gaurd of whom
had caught Tyler handed a key over to the other gaurd and left the
room, slamming the door as he went, leaving Tyler and the other gaurd
locked in the room.
Sunset seemed like ages away, but after much standing around and
waiting for death to come, it came. There was a loud rap on the other
side of the door which seemed to signal something as the gaurd stood up
and untied the chains at Tyler's wrists. The gaurd then opened the door
and lead Tyler down the tower, into the courtyard. In the middle of the
courtyard was a large wooden stage with posts above it and hanging from
this post was a single rope. To occupy her mind, Tyler looked up at the
sky, it was a brilliant orange-red.
Up ahead she could see Scott. He looked alot paler than usual and as he
turned to look at Tyler he was pulled onto the wooden stage, the rope
placed around his neck. As he was pushed forwards, Tyler screamed and
pulled her eyes tightly shut, she just couldn't watch her best friend
die and not be able to do anything about it.
Funnily enough, with her eyes shut tight, she heard a ringing sound.
Slowly, she opened her eyes, she was in her bedroom and it was October
31st. Today, Scott and Tyler were going to visit the tower of
London.
Chapter Two
Tyler sat up, wondering whether she had just had a nightmare or a
premonition of what was going to happen today. After all, it was
Halloween and anything can happen. Her alarm was still ringing so she
slammed her fist on top of it and the noise stopped straight
away.
Slowly, she got out of her warm bed, though she had a funny feeling
that she would later regret doing so, and walked over to her dressing
table. Picking up her hairbrush, she looked in the mirror. Her
chocolate brown hair was a mess and her hazel eyes were staring back at
her. With her lips pursed, she tried to remember her dream. She
remembered everything being different, as though she had gone back in
time and she remembered screaming, but that was it. If anything else
had happened, she couldn't remember it.
Slowly she brushed her hair and pulled it into a loose ponytail. She
walked over to her wardrobe and pulled open the doors to see what she
was going to wear, after all, it wasn't everyday one got to visit the
tower of London. After much looking, Tyler decided on a three-quarter
length black skirt with a beige tube top, thinking that it might
possibly become cold, she also grabbed out her beige jacket. Perfect,
she thought as she got changed out of her pyjamas and into her outfit.
She walked out of her bedroom, grabbing her shoulder bag, purse and
sunglasses on the way and walked onto the landing.
She walked down the corridor and into the first room on the right, the
bathroom. She washed, checked her reflection in the mirror, applied
some lip-gloss and left the room. She crept to the end of the hall, and
slowly made her way downstairs. It was still early and she knew her
parents would be cross if she accidentally woke them. As she came onto
the ground floor she halted by the telephone, thinking that she had
best leave a note for her parents. After re-writing it three times, she
got it just right:
Mum and dad
Gone to the tower of London with Scott. Won't be back ''til late. Don't
do any dinner for me. I'll have pizza on the way home, got money, got
mobile incase of emergency,
love
Tyler

She placed the note next to the telephone and walked to the front door.
She carefully turned the key and, grabbing her keys on the way, left
the house.

The street outside was deserted. Not even a cat could be seen. Slowly
Tyler started walking up the road, thinking to herself that she's glad
she brought her jacket with her and wishing she'd grabbed her gloves.
There was a northern wind blowing strong and the rustling of the leaves
were blowing so hard that about a dozen at a time they landed on
Tyler's head. It was still quite dark outside, considering it was 7 am
and you'd think it would be quite light, it wasn't, but then again, it
was winter.
As she came to the end of the road she saw someone stood, leaning
casually against the wall. Whoever it was, and by the fact that she was
still quite far away and couldn't see the person at all well, they were
tall with spikey hair, giving Tyler the impression that it was a boy,
and they didn't have a very good posture. Scott. There was nothing for
it. Deciding it was too cold and that she'd like to get somewhere warm
and fast she ran the last few steps up to him.
When Scott heard her footsteps he turned, frowning slightly. His black
hair had been spiked all the way through, as though he was some kind of
hedgehog, and his green eyes seemed to be glazed over, as if he was
thinking about something. "Hey" his voice was cool and friendly with a
slight feeling of I'm freezing what took you so long sound about it.
Tyler nodded in reply, her lips felt to cold and numb to talk.
Neither Tyler nor Scott seemed to feel like talking so they set off
down the road. If any one was to look out their windows then they would
probably be slightly stunned as they looked quite odd walking down the
road at the break of dawn. Scott was at least a foot, maybe two feet,
taller than Tyler and was obviously alot more muscular.
"Oh hey!" Tyler suddenly remembered her dream and thought she should
share it with him, considering he died in it. Scott turned to look at
her and replied with a smile, showing that he was listening to what she
had to say and that she should hurry up and say it before he looses
interest. "I had this really freaky dream about us two. We'd gone to
visit the tower and..." and she was off, telling Scott every single
detail of her dream. When she'd finished he laughed and stood rooted to
the spot.
"Do you need to sit down Ty? I think you've lost the plot. First off,
you can't go back in time and second of all, people used to get
beheaded when they were killed at the tower not hung and finally I
wouldn't have got caught. I know you've had weird dreams before but
thats just so freaky. You have better dreams that me; I'll give you
that. I dreamed I was chased by a giant chicken." He grinned and tried
to look totally shocked at the same time, and ended up laughing.
Tyler joined in the laugh, as she knew Scott was petrified of chickens.
When he was 5 years old he kicked a chicken when he was in a tantrum
and the chicken started chasing him around the place. Since that
fateful day he's hated chickens and he won't even eat them (something
about them jumping up and chasing him when they had been cooked or
pecking his inside's out or something).
The two of them began walking again and soon enough the tower came into
view. Scott looked up at it in awe and grinned saying, "well, if I'm
going to die anywhere, then at least I'll die in style." Tyler laughed
and gave him a playful whack on the arm. He laughed and ran ahead to
the entrance, where he stood waiting for Tyler to catch him up.
Please don't let us die here. I couldn't handle it. Oh please just let
this be a normal day trip to London's famous tower. Hundred's of
thoughts were running through Tyler's head as she walked up the gravel
drive to the ticket booth. Scott didn't seem at all worried and was
stood waiting and raring to go. As Tyler approached she thought to
herself, well, if this is where fate is going to come for us then I'll
be ready, I've seen what will happen and I'm going to change fate.
Neither of us are going to die...
