Planes wheel giant-like in the sky above
Tracing strands of mist fraying like cotton
Blown by the wind, lost like a dove
Over an endless ocean, falling, forgotten.
Eyes look down in flickering candlelight
Embarrassed and lonely in a crowded room
Afraid to meet, to face the bright light
That burst in his silence and ended his gloom.
Leaving in the night is clumsy and brief
Words fail, drizzle falls, he stands alone
Longing for the days when every tree and leaf
Seemed magical, shining, comforting like home
But vapour trails vanish in the quickening breeze
Strewing the fields with spiralling leaves.
