In the Mood (Not)

Today I find I am not in
the mood I call poetic.
In fact this verse (like all the rest),
Is really quite pathetic.
I tell myself, though more in hope,
than any kind of reason,
its’s just a phase that will not last,
re: the ‘sparagus season’.
As you can see I’m not against
a forced rhyme here and there.
Such things are not against the law,
as far as I’m aware.
Nor am I against the use,
of obscure words like hoggerel;
I’ve no idea what it means,
but at least it rhymes with doggerel.

I relate to this so much
I relate to this so much right now. I’ve been deep in that same place with my own writing—just second-guessing everything, feeling like the spark’s gone.
But this still comes across as really well-written, even in the self-doubt. It’s clever, funny, and weirdly comforting. Like, yeah, it might be a bit messy on purpose—but it still totally works.
And I needed that reminder today.

I find whisky makes me
I find whisky makes me inspired - trouble is, next morning I can't read what I wrote! This poem made me smile, and yes, haven't we all been there - or here?
