PIXIE ON MY SHOULDER

I have a Pixie on my shoulder
He tells me what to do
And how to think and what to write
And even what to dream at night
He’s always there tho not in view
And now I think he’s getting bolder!
His constant whisper in my ear
Can be a comfort or a pain
His tinkling laugh can make me smile -
His silence make me think awhile –
Til I feel his breath again
And thank my stars he’s here.
He shows me flowers shyly hidden
And poems I would not have heard
If he hadn’t made me try so hard
To listen to my inner bard
And make my heart soar like a bird
That sings so sweetly, quite unbidden.
His is that dreamy little voice
From far away at dead of night;
His is the hopeful, joyful song
That warms our soul when all seems wrong;
And shows us how to make it right
And says, ‘don’t cry! Rejoice!’
You may have a Pixie too
On your shoulder waiting there
He may be wanting to be found
So listen hard to every sound.
And always hope and be aware
A Pixie’s waiting just for you.
