Age
I am wrinkled
my skin seems to flap aound my bones
as if I have far too much of it
and it's so thin.
I can clearly see the blood veins beneath
pumping and throbbing
and feeding
so much effort,
so much needed...
so tiring
My hair is thin
and there's not much of it
my head's clearly visible
and my frowning forhead
never-ending
stretching back to the neck
that barely sustains the wieght of my head
as it joins my rounded back
My limbs
sometimes they have a mind of their own
I can't control them
they do things that I don't tell them to do
and I'm not always sure how to move them
My thoughts are seldom rational
words merge into sounds
and faces unrecognisable
stare at me
and speak so slowly - I lose interest
and somehow
the stain from dinner on my shirt
seems
far more interesting
But they say..........
they say that with age I will find myself
.
I will grow up
I will one day be a toddler,
the next a young child
I'll pass through puberty
And be a difficult teen
and one day
I'll be as old
as the person I am part of
My mother
who bore me this morning
Who is young, and beautiful
Vibrant and electric
and as she ages, I'll watch her grow
and always have someone to learn from.
I can't wait to grow older
to be young
