Jessica's Life Journey (15) - Testing Times

I waited for Will to listen to the voicemail message in which a woman - claiming to be his sister - asked him to contact her, before starting my interrogation
"You are a dark horse William Browning", I said, trying to keep the conversation on a lighter vein, "Where does this sister of yours come from? I thought you were the only child."
"It is a long story, Jessica..."
I cut him off before he could prevaricate.
" I've got all the time in the world to listen to a good tale, so start at the beginning."
"Well. I too believed I was an only child until a young attractive woman rang my doorbell one sunny morning. I thought that she was another religious zealot wanting to save my soul, then she spoke."
"Good morning; my name is Samantha. You must excuse me for calling without prior notice", she said to me as a preamble, "but it was the only way I could be sure to contact you to tell you the glad news that I am your long-lost sister."
"She went on to explain that while she was sorting out her late mother's correspondence, she had come across a letter addressed to my father informing him that she was pregnant."
"Did she find any proof that he was her father?"
"No, she took it for granted."
"And did you believe her story?"
"I trusted her, especially when she offered to take a DNA test to substantiate her assumption."
The connection to the genetic lab, that I had rung while searching for clues, was now starting to make sense.
It wasn't to establish if Will had fathered a child but to prove that his father had.
"Did the test prove positive?", I asked out of curiosity, not of concern.
"No, it was inconclusive, and there is the rub. She doesn't know the result yet."
"Is that why she still refers to herself as your sister?"
"Yes, and I don't have the heart to disappoint her."
"You are too soft. Will."
"It seemed the decent thing to do. She is a young girl who's embarking on a career and who needs all the support that she can muster."
"This career wouldn't by any chance have anything to do with an escort agency?" I asked acidly.
"Indirectly". he replied, "but how do you know about that establishment? Have you been spying on me?"
"Nothing of the sort, dear friend. I happened to discover it when you, carelessly, left your laptop on that particular website."
"I was worried that you might have been caught in the clutches of a sex worker," I added soothingly..
"I wasn't born yesterday, dear Jessica. I know how to take care of myself"
Arguable, I thought, considering the mess he got into with the rash decision to get married on the rebound that mercifully failed, but diplomatically I kept silent and listened to what he had to say on the matter.
"Samantha has a beautiful body and she was approached by a seemingly respectable lady who offered her a job as a fashion model and naively Sam signed a contract without realising that she'd be an escort girl and not a model."
"I suppose you were the knight in shining armour that came to her rescue", I remarked cuttingly
He didn't take the bait and simply said that it was his moral duty to help the girl out of a scrape.
"it was the least I could do. I had a rendezvous with the leading woman of that dubious organisation to discuss the situation. No money exchanged hands. Mentioning the name of an influential person who could at a stroke ruin financially her outfit, was enough to release Sam from any obligation."

Jessica's getting a lot of information out of Will, about this woman who claims to be his sister, but I wonder if there is more to come.
Still enjoying Luigi.
