Jessica's Life Journey (16) - The Apple of His Eyes

Will, the dependable and capable man on whom I could always rely, is a changed man. His analytical mind which used to be his main skill seems to have deserted him. He is more gullible and ready to accept any story that has a modicum of plausibility.
He had taken for granted that Katja, the woman who had consented to be his wife, would be at his side at the altar to be joined in matrimony; never considered she might have cold feet and not turn up. His judgement, previously sound, failed him.
What am I to think of the latest revelation, that a woman. whose claim to be his sister depends only on the flimsy evidence of a letter and an inconclusive DNA test?
Either he is naïve for believing without question that a sibling has materialised by accident or his account is suspect, to say the least.
And if that is the case, I'd like to know what his motivation is.
It would be useful to learn if a DNA test was actually carried out and whether it was inconclusive, as he said. That it was negative was also a possibility. The fact that he hadn't told the girl of the result sounded suspicious.
Of course, these are just conjectures on my part and there is no reason to mistrust Will apart from my instinctive scepticism and my usual habit to dot the i's and cross the t's.
Prejudice of the girl was also premature as I hadn't set eyes on her yet.
I realised that I would have to avail myself of Uncle Jeremy's counsel. His common-sense approach to life is pragmatic and has always served me well.
He is like a father to me and he says that I am the apple of his eye.
I brought him up to date with the latest development and said that I found Will's behaviour rather peculiar.
“What's bothering you, my dear?. He asked solicitously.
“I have the vague feeling that we haven't heard the whole truth.”
"You mean they told a cock and bull story?"
"Not entirely. There is something that doesn't fit but I can't put my finger on it."
“Don't worry unduly”, he reassured me, “if there's anything untoward, it will come out in the wash.”
“Let's invite Will and Samantha for dinner. I shall have the chance to meet her and be able to form an opinion.”
“I suppose we can chew things over at the dinner table”, I remarked and he laughed at my unintended pun. I thought that he was a dry old stick, so it was nice to discover that he has a sense of humour.

"She is a charming girl", said Uncle Jeremy. after they had gone.
“And you didn't fail to notice that she also has a nice body”, said Auntie Lottie with a twinkle in her eyes, “you could not keep your eyes off her",
Obviously, they were satisfied that the siblings were OK.
I still was not convinced that she was the real McCoy.

Oh dear, I think Jessica is
Oh dear, I think Jessica is very much in love with Will, otherwise she wouldn't care so much.
I'm still enjoying your story Luigi.
