Twin Towers

Nine-one-one is not just a number
that one dials when in dire need,
it is also a date that we remember
because of a devilish misdeed.
How can we forget the fateful day
when the twin towers fell to ground
and the kamikaze revelled in a fray
buzzing around with an eerie sound.
It was the most horrific sight to see:
buildings engulfed in a pall of smoke,
with people trapped desperate to flee,
unable to breathe, trying not to choke.
I was one remote, unwilling witness,
as the terror flashed onto the screen.
The fire and devastation were relentless:
it was the biggest disaster I’d ever seen.
The rescue parties were quick to arrive
and everybody taking part was a hero.
Saving lives was the major drive
on the site we know as Ground Zero.
