Chapter 3
'what are you doing here' I asked the figure,
'I just wondered if you could come out for a walk, I wanted to talk to you,' they replied, as soon as they did I knew who it was, I told them I would be down in a minute, threw some old clothes on and carefully stepped down the stairs. I opened the front door, and there stood the 6 foot figure,
'How did you find out were I lived?' I asked them,
'So you know who it is now then.' they replied, ignoring my question,
'Yeah, I knew it was you Conner, your not easy to miss.' he wasn't, he was 6 foot, and had dark short hair, and always wore his leather jacket, not a person easily missed.
'I wanted to take you out tonight, for a walk, I really want to ask you something.' he said looking up at the front windows,
'Did I wake anyone else up?' he asked,
'No, just me, how did you know which one my room was?' I asked him as I stepped out into the dark, grabbing my keys as I went,
'I just guessed, if I was wrong then I would have tried another one, but I thought that you would have the top bedroom.' I didn't question this, instead I was eager to know why I had to come out at midnight for him to ask me something. As we walked, silently, I noticed his motorbike parked close by. About 5 minutes later, we stopped, and I realised where we were. We had somehow walked down to the shore. Now I could see his face clearer. He had deep brown eyes, tanned skin, perfect lips and his hair was spiked up, but it looked natural, not gelled. He was quite tall for his age, only 17 and already reaching 6 foot, compared to him I looked like kitten, small and delicate, whilst he was tall and strong. We stood there for a few minutes, admiring the view.
'So, what do you think of it?' he asked finally,
'It beautiful.' I said, still looking out,
'That's what I thought when I first saw you,' he said, turning to meet my gaze, I blushed, unable to say anything else. We stood there for a few more seconds, he took my hand, then I pulled away, the moment was gone,
'Hey, I have to get back, I have school tomorrow, in fact so do you,' I said, thinking what could have happened,
'Sure, I forgot, hey I will walk you back.' he said letting my hand go,
'Ok, but we have to hurry.' I said starting to walk, he stopped me and tipped my chin upwards so we were making eye contact,
'Can we keep tonight between us, I mean I know you have a boyfriend and all, I just thought,' I didn't give him a chance to finish,
'Its fine, sure I wont tell anyone, promise,' I said smiling, although I doubt if he saw it. We walked back to my house faster than we went away, he bye when I got home, and I saw him get on his motorbike and ride off. Later that night, I woke again, thinking what could have happened, but the thought was quick, and I soon drifted off again.
When I woke up, it took me a while to remember why I was so tired, then I remembered the night before, the stones thrown at my window, Conner standing at the bottom, the shore, his face, the thoughts that ran through my head when he touched my hand, the feeling of closeness, the mutual feeling. I quickly got dressed, grabbed my bag and coat and shot out the door. I ran past the kitchen again, only to turn back when I heard my moms voice call me. I went through the cupboards, found a cereal bar, then I saw the look o my moms face.
'What, what's happened?' I asked her,
'Your dad had to go to New York on business, I am so worried, you know that New York is the main terrorist target.'
'How longs he going to be there?' I asked, now worried about him as well,
'About a month, should be back in time for the twins birthday, hopefully.' I walked over and gave her a hug. I don't often show affection to my family, except maybe Jack, so my mom just looked at me when I stepped back,
'See you tonight then,' I said as I walked out the door, I just about heard her goodbye as I slammed the front door. Since I have a car, I leave later than the twins, since they catch the bus, I never asked them if they would like a life, and they would probably say no, they caught the bus with their mates, and I got a terror free car. My other siblings didn't get up early, since they were in collage and still had time off. I jumped into my car and drove to school, not bothering to look at all the new freshmen again, my mind was too occupied for that.
I arrived at school earlier, since I broke the speed limit on the way. I had to find Conner before first bell, I couldn't sit through homeroom, knowing that he was a couple of feet away from me, and not being able to speak to him. I rushed around the corner of the building, and spotted his crowd, but he wasn't with them, I quickly looked around the yard again, no sign of him, then I heard it. The sound of a motorbike, the purring of it. I spun round, and saw him pull up next to me. I waited till he had his helmet off, before I spoke,
'About last night,' I started,
'Look, I thought we were never going to talk about it. I made a fool of myself, can we leave it at that?' he asked, getting his bag from the box at the back.
'No, look, I don't think that you made a fool of yourself, I need to talk to you in private, its important.'
'Did your folks catch you last night when you got back?' he asked me, now staring into my eyes,
'No, its nothing, but I need to talk about last night, I felt something.' I said, 'and I wanted to know if you felt it to?'
'Of course I felt it, but you ran off, I thought that you were running away from me.'
'No, but I have Rob, this can't happen, you cant¦cant¦..cant.' I stuttered,
'I know, I wont bother you any more, just as long as you answer this question for me?'
'What question?'
'Can you truly say that you didn't like what you felt last night, and that you have felt that with Rob?'
'That's two questions.' I told him,
'Fine, answer any one you like.' he smiled,
'I will, just give me till after school, I need to think.'
'I don't want you to tell me, I want you to think about it, and about what you felt last night.' he said, as he walked off he smiled at me, with those perfect lips. The bell interrupted my thoughts, and I wandered towards homeroom, wondering where the others were. I saw from the end of the corridor that Markus and Vicky were sitting in our usual spot. I hurried over to them, bumping into a few new freshmen on my way.
'Hey, how come your late, miss-I-have-a-car?' Vicky asked as I sat down next to her and Markus.
'Got up late, alarm never went off.' they knew this wasn't true, I was never late for school, but they didn't push this matter.
'So, any developments with Conner?' Markus asked,
'No, why would there be, I never saw him last night, he doesn't know where I live, why would he.' I questioned them,
'Chill, I was only asking, it was just strange how you never came to the stables last night.' Markus and I always go to the stables at 7 for an hour or so every night, since we were kids.
'I had tonnes of work to do, plus I was tired.' I covered up, the reason that my homework took so long was that every five minutes I would daydream about Conner, and then I would check to see if he was online.
'Ok, just they were wondering if you were ok.' he said, as Mr Brazen came down the corridor, carrying his suitcase and his stick. As we all piled into the classroom, I spotted Conner come round the corner, he obviously didn't know not to be late in this class.
He managed to get in class on time, and received a look from Mr Brazen. After the register was done, Conner came past the desk, and dropped a piece of paper on the desk, not obvious to Vicky, but I grabbed it quick, and he continued to the front desk. I opened the letter, and read;
To Gypsy,
Hey, about last night, I didn't plan any of it, it just thought that you would like to see across the shore at night. It was beautiful, like you. I just wondered if we were still on for Saturday night, and if we could meet up tonight as well. I guess, now you know how I feel about you, but I hope that doesn't stop us being mates, I really like you, and I don't care that we are from different crowds. Meet up after school, by your car. See you then.
Conner
Ps. If you cant make it, meet me outside homeroom class at the start of lunch. I will be waiting there.
I folded the letter up before Vicky could see it, then quickly jotted down homeroom at lunch on my hand, as a reminder. The bell went, and I walked to maths. I daydreamed through that class, and got told to concentrate about five times. I pasted through the next 3 classes the same, and I think that by lunch Vicky was worried about me.
'Hey, I will catch up with you, I got to go and see Mr Brazen, he asked me this morning.' that was the cover story I had come up with in Chemistry.
'But, he never said anything this morning, I was there.'
'He did, you mustn't have been listening.' I covered up, but it was true, she almost never listened to the teachers, half the time I had to repeat everything to her. With Vicky gone, I hurried down the corridor, towards homeroom. I turned the corner, and I saw him waiting there. I started towards him, but never got close enough. A hand grabbed my shoulder, I stopped, and spun round, wondering when I would tell Conner that I couldn't make it after school.
