New Born

You didn't creep in quietly
to steal away my heart;
instead you stormed in yelling
and fighting from the start.
You disarranged my privacy
and took my peace of mind,
I lost all my complacency
and thought you so unkind.
Sleep never now comes easily
that dark and loving bliss;
instead it comes in short, sharp drips
as mean as an old crone's kiss.
Our home is now an utter mess
how can you need so much?
Just seven pounds of human flesh
but you take all I've got.
You've taken away my right to wine
and dine until all hours,
but still we have each other
and what we have is ours.
So take my love my own sweet thief
as you take your nourishment,
rob me of the sleep I crave
I'll never make complaint.
And as my life turns over,
upside and around;
we'll grow along together
by birth forever bound.
