We Evolved

From bang
To soup
To fish
To man
Billions of years it took
For us to shop in Tesco's
Unexpected item in the bagging area
Unexpected item in the shagging area
We shagged our way into existence
Even the test tube baby is assisted shagging
There is nothing wrong with a little bit of help
To think we were fish
Now we eat fish fingers
To think our limbs
Developed from bony fins
To think of that chemical soup
That Knorr would now shun
And trading standards would target
And yet it, plus sunlight, was our womb
And that bang
A soundless pop
Of infinities unfolding
Every atom in us now was there
We are predators without prey
Absorbing sugar efficiently up a concentration gradient
And our success could be our demise
Too many cars
Too many people
Too much sugar
Too much inequity
