Pride Before The Fall

Franz Reichelt tailored a parachute suit that
Left his friends agog when he told them his
Invention would prevent pilots getting bent by
Gliding to earth in graceful descent, but when
Hurling himself proudly from the Eiffel Tower
Tragedy was the outcome of Franz's final hour

Friends had begged him to play it safe, to
Linger over his feckless plan where heavy man
In flimsy kite is reckless with gravity from such
Great height, but Franz was determined to have
His way and invited the cameras to pay homage
To him floating to the title of Le Grand Fromage

Frantic crowds gathered on the Champ de Mars
Looking to see history made by a man's bizarre
Invention defying convention to glide with chic
Gallic flair, towards Etoile or Ecole Militaire in 
Historic style, but when Franz leapt out towards 
Tremulous throng a mad idea proved very wrong

Falling to earth at horrifying rate, this frenzied
Lunge became a plunge too late when facing
Imminent doom, flailing his arms to no avail he 
Grew frantic as his frail device quickly proved a
Heavy price to pay for his pedantic disregard of
Their warnings about hoist with your own petard
