Refer To Drawer

Frustration is our persistent hum, our tinnitus,
a worry-worm growing fat on our fragile assumptions.
It lurks in the pale mist of our waking
where it burnishes its book of intentions
It simmers like a slow burning fuse
fizzing with imaginings postponed,
refusing to answer the questions we press-
the ones that yearn to push us on.
We spill morning's milk and misplace our purpose,
squandering time in search of that focus
that we knew we held only yesterday.
Oh, why can we not embrace the day with purpose?
We stare at ourselves and our quiet failures
in mirrors that reflect unwelcome truths
as we write blank cheques against depleted accounts,
howling when they're returned - 'refer to drawer'
Frustration is a thread of the human condition
as the heart reaches out beyond patience,
straining against time and the fragile architecture
that structures the language of our understandingÂ
Yet, against all odds we carry on-
not in spite of our frustration, but alongside it.
We learn to stumble with stubborn companions
along those paths that reach out towards content.
