The Mask (revisited)

I have a mask of frozen flesh
My features stiff and cold
Petrified by pain and loss
Lovers lost, new and old
I hide behind this bitter mask
That covers up my tortured soul
Forever bound by guilt and shame
A terror Dark and black as coal
In my hand I hold a heart
Burnt and scarred by careless night
Sheltered from my deadly storm
Protected from my poison blight
My eyes are scorched by passions fire
And blinded by a burning light
That whispers of your velvet touch
And steals away my sight
A withered husk of human waste
A broken shell of screaming fear
No gentle heart to take my hand
No caring eyes to shed a tear
Consumed by your uncaring smile
My body turns to ash and rust
brushed aside by bitter words
and left to vanish with the dust

Strong emotions that I read
Strong emotions that I read as particular to a male perspective.
