Dream

I bought a house with a perfect view
I bought into a dream I thought I knew
It had a stream and a mountain side
It had a wolf that would visit sometimes
There was a silence at the mountain tops
Despite the size of these many rocks
It seemed like summer or maybe spring
That I'd listed to a siren sing
And then I think of what it would mean
if you had only shared this dream
If you had bought what I had bought
But dreams are our only natural thoughts
You came along and stayed for a while
But I could see that when I smiled
You had different thoughts and different plans
and different dreams to understand
So the time came that you went away
And though it pained me, I decided to stay
In my own dream and my own perfect view
Trying not to be troubled by the memory of you
The siren it seemed understood my soul
She'd sing to me softly, now all alone
She'd lighten my heart on those lonely nights
And the wolf would pass by to check I'm alright
I'd talk for hours and hours of times gone by
And dream up companions to live in my life.
I'd take them on high to take in the view
But these strange people were like nothing I knew.
So the madness inside drew my life to a close
These fictitious creatures were a deadly dose
To a lonely man with his past run away
And a dreamy old house turning to decay
And as he lay there consumed by the view
The house turned to ruin and the ivy grew.
Slow to become consumed by the dream
Peaceful at last, forever it seems.
