Was walking past one of my favourite jewellery shops, when I noticed they had a sale on. There was something I recently wanted to buy, I wondered if they would sell it. I went in to have a look.
I asked, “Can I use my discount card?” The staff said, “Yes, if it is not in the sale.” I saw what I was looking for, it was silver, my favourite thing to wear and £20 the perfect price.
I asked, “Can I try it on?” The staff said, “Yes.” It was a very small plain Cross with a very fine chain.
The staff, she had trouble opening it, I said, “I don’t usually wear chains that fine, I would have to change it.” She put it on me, it was beautiful, I said, “I will have it.” She then had difficulty undoing the tiny clasp. I told her, “There is a hippy type shop, I will go there and get a string for the pendant.” I was chuffed when I gave her my discount card, and that the price was £16, that was the bargain of the day.
I went straight to the hippy type shop, and showed her my teeny tiny Cross. I said, “The chain for it is too thin, and would be difficult to open and close each time.” She could see the Cross and the very fine chain, I said, “Have you got a string type thing that I can buy instead of the chain?”
She got the perfect thing, it was black and looked like leather, but it wasn’t leather, and she tried to get it into the hole at the top of the Cross, it just about went in. It was long, I said, “I can either cut it or wrap it around my neck twice, I will have it.” It cost £2 this was THE bargain of the day! I went to the jewellery store and showed her the £2 string.
The next day, I was at the site number three, I put my tiny 5p sized Cross onto the string type thing and wrapped it around my neck twice. I tied it into a knot at the back and drove to work. I usually wear my silver Maltese Cross, but today, it was THE Cross.
I drove the short trip to work and when I took my coat off, I put my hand to where my little Cross was, and it was not there! In a panic I looked down and there it was, my smooth string had come undone and the little Cross was hanging on by the last bit about to drop to the floor! In such a large building, if it has fallen off, I would never have found it again! I was SO relived that it was not lost, that I took it off and put both in my purse. The string idea was not as good as I had hoped, I didn’t have a plan B. I felt bare all day, without something at my neck, so show my ‘heart’ but at least my Cross was safe.
Later, back home, for I had thought about it throughout the day, of what to do with my tiny Cross.
The following day, I decided to try the fine silver chain that came with the Cross, and wondered how long it would take me to put it on. I went to the mirror so I could see, and held on to the Cross, to make sure it didn’t fall down the plughole. With a bit of patience, I got it on, I made sure it was secure, and it did make sense to use the chain that came with it, as that was fit for purpose, the chain and the cross was a perfect match, fine and tiny.
Taking it off, I did the same process, holding on to the Cross, while trying to find the opening so that I could take it off. It was quicker than I thought it would be, when I had first seen it in the store.
Now I love both. I am glad I didn’t lose the Cross, and I am glad I decided to use the fine chain. I could not imagine the pair not together.
