the forgotten

history is etched
with names and battles
the deeds of the great
ever to be remembered

but what of the folks
the people left behind in time
their pages lost and stories forgotten
what of them?

what of the ordinary people
the ones who laughed, cried

the ones who toiled and worked
the ones who loved and dreamed

names may fade
faces may vanish
stories may slip
through the cracks of time

but they were here
they lived
though time may have forgotten them

not afforded the luxury of memory 

history is not only

the names etched into stone
but every life that ever passed by

everyone who simply was

and perhaps the forgotten

are not truly gone
so long as someone wonders
what of them?
