Among The Grey Stones
By Paul McCann
There’s a place where you can go to loose all your sins .
Walking barefoot with the pilgrims there up on a mountain track .
Forgiveness and penance is older than the hills
and can be found in the silence where the stones can’t answer back .
On a path to Crough Patrick there among the stones
you’ll find people on a journey saying prayers along the way . .
Up where the grey clouds are cut in two by the sun
is the top of the mountain where the pilgrims have come to pray.
With their sticks and shawls and rosary beads in the hand ,.
reciting and singing and bringing petitions on paper . .
As they walk away they leave all their sins behind
and whisper to the grey stones , it was well worth the climb up there .
