The Boy Who Walked On His Hands
By Paul McCann
Boris lived in a small village 10 miles away from the city and once a month he went with his father to the city to pay the electric bill . He enjoyed getting away from the village for a while and the trip in the tricycle , His father sometimes bought him a chocolate as a treat but most importantly it was their day out together, Apart from paying the electric bill they sometime went looking for bargains at the markets there .
When Boris’s father took sick , he couldn’t take Boris on the tricycle to the city to pay the electric bill and he was very worried that the electric company would cut off their supply so Boris said he could go and pay the bill because he knew the way and it wasn’t all that far to walk .
After some debate his father gave him permission to go on his own . So, with the money wrapped up in an envelope with rubber bands around it Boris set off on the road to the city . When he was about half way there he stumbled off the road as a truck passed going way too fast . Boris lost his balance and went over on his ankle and fell grazing both knees on the loose gravel . His ankle was throbbing and he couldn’t walk any further but he had an idea . He was always doing handstands at everyone said how well he kept his balance . Now for the very first time Boris decided that he would try to walk using his hands . It was the only way for him to get into the city.
Not many cars every used the road Boris was travelling on so hitchhiking was a wasted of time . .
When Boris entered the city people were surprised to see him walking on his hands and a few tried to copy what he was doing but never lasted long . A local business man who owned a small car yard was intrigued when he spotted Boris walking on his hands and followed him . Now there was few more who had joined in following Boris . When he arrived at the door of the electric company , the man who owned the car yard opened the door for Boris who went inside .
When he got off his hands , the business man could see that poor Boris’s hands were bleeding and yet he still was able to smile and say thank you after the business man helped Boris to get on his feet although he was a little unsteady because of his swollen ankle . As he stood there holding on to the reception counter, he explained what had happened and how important it was for him to pay the electric bill because his father wasn’t well . The owner of the car yard was very impressed by everything Boris had said and offered to bring him back to the village ,
When a fancy car pulled up near Boris’s home everyone in the village noticed and when the business man went inside assisting Boris with walking , a small crowd had gathered , the business man informed the crowd that everything was fine and there was no need to be concerned . After Brois told his parents what had happened, they were so grateful that the business man had helped to get their son home safely .’
The man who owned the car yard said he had never seen anyone walk on their hands like Boris and how impressed he was at his skill and his determination to do what he had been sent to do .
Then he offered Boris and his parents jobs in his new restaurant that was just about to open in the city. After that day Boris’s father and in a few weeks they all started went off to work on their tricycle to the city to work in the kitchen and on the reception in the new restaurant called , Rest Your Feet .
How happy they all were to have a full-time job and every once in a while the owner would ask Boris to walk through the restaurant on his hands with balloons tied to his ankles ,
It was always an enjoyable activity; people reacted well to that .
