A Day Spent Getting Lost
By Paul McCann
I went for a walk to see the country all around me .
Corncrakes sung among fields where some cow dung cakes lay .
Trout jumping out from streams with their tongue sticking out.
It’s like they have something that they’re trying to say .
There’s nothing like a day getting lost on the way
and discovering somewhere that you’ve never been .
There was a fox in a snare that had been chased by a hare
and the hounds seemed to be walking round in a dream .
Walking down a country road footloose and free with a toad
I got this feeling that the whole world was my own .
Black bramble sticks and prickles , with donkey licks and tickles
Sure I near laughed my leg off all the way home..
