Distances
By Paul McCann
The streets of the city are cold and have no pity
as I walk on the sidewalks alone.
All I see in silence is the distance between us
that goes on and on and I am far from home.
So far from home .
So I escape where the white lines seem to stretch out
to the waves that crash down on the golden sands
and no one hears a sound at all as I call out your name
and the echoes they just fall around to the empty shores of love .
In the distance I see there are mountains to climb
and the thoughts just keep running through my mind
and no matter where I go , I just can’t say hello
and the miles between us roll on by .
Is it any wonder why I fly so high above it all
like a bird in the sky, full of thunder and rain
and the pain just disappears in the distance between you and me .
So I walk away in the distance, so no sees me cry the way I do
Is it any wonder , why I ask you .
Why I ask you ,
Why I ask you why you did the things you did to me ,
when you said goodbye to our life and love.
The streets of the city are cold and have no pity
as I walk on the sidewalks alone ,
and all that I see in the silence is the distance between us
and it goes on and on .
I am far from home .
