The Do And To Teach
By Paul McCann
The classroom teacher cried ,“Did you not hear what I said ?”
The students replied .“Please show us what you mean “
The teacher called out ,“Are you blind as well as deaf?”
The last students who was left was a young artistic child , just looked back at him and smiled ,
then he said “ Can’t you hear the artists call ?”
His voice sent silent echoes from wall to wall . There were a few paintings that were hung up to die and no one gave a reply .
Picasso said once.
“As a child he could paint like a master, but it took him all his life to paint like a child”.
Some children just need the ability to let imagination flow free , with an unlimited support , not deflated or discouraged by adults. Sometimes young children at primary school need platform programs with poetry and art to springboard them into high school . Most high school teachers are restricted by what they have to teach governed by the corriculum however little energy and time is allowed for instructing and opening windows of inspiration with poetry and art and as a result many talented writers and artists at school are not being seen or appreciated in the classrooms of school life today .
“All and all they’re just another brick in the wall “ .... Pink Floyd
Inside the walls of our schools there should be a passion burning in every teachers heart to inspire minds and fan the flames of a fire that can never be extinguished .
Irish poet William Butler Yeats said
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
When a fire burns it needs a constant supply of fuel to keep it alive .
The vocation to do and to teach should be the echoes heard inside the walls of our schools by those children who need a spark of genius to light the fires of passion in their minds .
The fires that burn in the heart and soul of education is a passion to feed the desire for our future generations .
John F. Kennedy said
“Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future." -
To feed a hungry mind with proper nourishment is the vocation to teach . The ingredients are not hard to find . An ounce of wisdom , outweighs reams of paperwork , a pinch of goodness brings a better flavour for everyone to taste .
Plant the seeds of wisdom in fertile soil , to allow new ideas to come and then continue the watering with patience to bring strong growth in the fields of diversity with education .
C.S.Lewis once said .
“The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts."
